I love the OO-ay sounds, they give the name a very echoey, mysterious feel. I feel like Nimue embodies all the magic and mystery of the Lady of the [name_u]Lake[/name_u], whereas Niniane sounds too bouncy and cutesy by comparison.

Niniane if you ask me; the whole name is solid but soft, mysterious but not overly complicated; [name_f]Nina[/name_f]/Nini is a wonderful nickname, joyful and fun and sweet. I like the -uh sound on the end because it’s the most girly thing in my culture’s names…
But I don’t hate or dislike Nimue. It’s slightly more romantic and “oo-ee” is sorta cutie and witch…But double "N"s are just tooooo(or soooo) faery and magical to resist!

It looks like Nimue is the favorite around here, but I adore Niniane. That wasn’t how I was pronouncing it in my head, but I like that pronunciation too! I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the nn [name_f]Nina[/name_f] (obviously out for me, as it is practically identical to my own name, means girl in Spanish, and it rhymes with my new surname :frowning: ) But I love the idea of other people using it. There’s something about the combination of letters in Niniane that feels light and free but mysterious too… like a golden, gauzy veil.

Nimue. I love the soft sound of nim and the waving flow of oo-ay
Niniane is okay, but it just makes me think of the word ninnny.

Thanks ladies who commented, I pretty much knew your opinions from before ;)! Thanks to everyone who’s voted as well!

Nimue leading with nine votes…

Nimue is so unique in sound and I love the way it looks and sounds unlike any other name I am aware of. It’s haunting and romantic to me, though I am unaware of the Arthurian legend. I am intrigued to look it up.

Nimue! I think it’s so beautiful and I’d love to see it used on a little girl. Niniane doesn’t appeal to me personally.

I picked Niniane because of this: :: Nimue Skin Technology ::

I think both could be real spelling/pronunciation headaches. You have dozens of other gorgeous options on your list, personally I’d put these up as middle name possibilities.

Holy [name_m]Moses[/name_m]! Nimue is a thing too? A few days ago I saw a scaffolding repair van from a firm called [name_f]Isis[/name_f], I walked past a hairsalon called [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] a few weeks ago, and now a skin thing? Typical.

Nimue still in the lead…

I voted for Niniane because the ending of Nimue sounds a lot lit the sound a cow makes and I can just imagine all the teasing from boys that could lead to.

I like both, but I originally thought that Nimue was pronounced nim-yoo. I wouldn’t want to have to correct everyone on the name; Niniane is much phonetic-friendly.

I like both names but Nimue is more ethereal and haunting. Not many names sound like it so I find it very unique. I pronounce it different from you though. I say “[name_m]NIM[/name_m]-oo-ay”. I don’t know if the derogatory word “ninny” is common in the UK (it means a fool or simpleton) so I don’t like the potential for teasing with the name Niniane.

We know of it, but it’s not used much any more.

I went for Niniane because all I can here is ‘moo’ when I read Nimue. Would have preferred it if it was pronounced ‘nim-way’ or something.

[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] - Nimue is a brand of skin care

There is something hauntingly beautiful about the way Nimue looks and sounds. Niniane is lovely but Nimue is ethereal.

Nimue has a nice mystique to me, so I prefer it. I also can’t get past seeing “ninny” in Niniane.

Like both, but love Nimue.

I love the stories of Nimue so I just had to pick it.

While, Niniane looks nice, “ninny” would bother me. Also, I’m familiar with the Spanish slang, nini (nee-nee) which basically is a young person someone that doesn’t study, and doesn’t work (‘ni estudia, ni trabaja,’ where ‘nini’ comes from). [name_m]Just[/name_m] sorta bums around all day, and lives off their parents’ money.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] of those negative words unfortunately would make Niniane unusable for me, but it’s still very pretty if you decide to you it.

Haha, [name_u]Mischa[/name_u], I actually say it like that as well, but the “correct” way is apparently oo-ee, so Husband wanted me to write it that way!

Thanks for the votes and comment, ladies!
