Nn for Elena Catherine?

Oh hi, it’s me again. I think I may lose my mind over this whole girl name issue, haha!

DH and I went through the top 1000 names for girls and marked off all of the ones we didn’t like…which didn’t leave very many. I feel like we have looked at every other possible name and we just don’t love any of them more than [name]Elena[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] V. We talked to some other family members, including my brother and [name]SIL[/name], and they said the whole Delana and [name]Elena[/name] issue (my niece is Delana) didn’t matter and to use what name we love. (The only one who seems to mind is my mom…). Plus, [name]Elena[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] gets way more positive reactions than our other choices.

So, we were thinking that we could just let my family call her a nn? We were thinking [name]Elle[/name], [name]Ella[/name], or [name]Elena[/name] [name]Cate[/name]? I really like [name]Elena[/name] [name]Cate[/name], but again, friend’s baby’s name is [name]Emmie[/name] [name]Kate[/name]… does everyone else run into this issue of knowing someone with similar names, etc? Does it bother you?

[name]Lena[/name] is a great nickname for [name]Elena[/name] that’s less common than [name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Ella[/name], and would help distinguish [name]Elena[/name] from Delana.

[name]How[/name] close are you with your friend? [name]Will[/name] your girls be growing up with each other? If so, then I wouldn’t use [name]Elena[/name] [name]Cate[/name].

They call my niece ‘[name]Lana[/name]’ (lane-ah) so lena is too close, which is why we were looking at E nicknames. I talk to my friend on the phone a lot, but I haven’t even seen her baby since she was born over a year ago.

any other thoughts/ideas?

I have an [name]Elena[/name] as well. Still love the name 7 years after choosing it! NNs will happen organically after baby is born. We call our daughter “E” and “[name]Lane[/name]” a lot. Other relatives call her laney bug.

@lolo_dink: [name]Laney[/name] Bug is so cute!

You can call her
[name]Lu[/name] [name]Cat[/name]
[name]Ellie[/name] [name]Cat[/name]
[name]Lena[/name] [name]Cate[/name]
[name]Lulu[/name]
[name]Lulu[/name] [name]Cate[/name] /[name]Lulu[/name] [name]Cat[/name]

[name]Laney[/name] is a cute nn!

My husband & I are in the same boat. When we were expecting our 1st child we were between [name]Emma[/name] and [name]Ella[/name]. We had a boy. My [name]SIL[/name] ended up having a girl and they named her [name]Emma[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. We’re expecting a girl & still like the name [name]Ella[/name] (her nn would be [name]Rose[/name] too which is mine, a family name). I can’t get past having [name]Emma[/name] & [name]Ella[/name] [name]Rose[/name] as cousins. It’s great that your bro & [name]SIL[/name] are so supportive of whatever you decide! Good luck!

I think [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Kate[/name] would be adorable.

I like [name]Laney[/name] and [name]Lena[/name]. My great grandmother was a [name]Helene[/name] (similar sounding) and was called Lallya, so that could be another option.
