NN for Margaret?

There is a little girl at the daycare where I work named [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and I overheard her parents calling her [name_f]Marge[/name_f] as her nn, however at first I thought it sounded like [name_u]March[/name_u]. When I first heard it I thought how adorable [name_u]March[/name_u] was as a nickname!

Would any of you use it? Does it work with [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]?

It would definitely work! I wouldn’t use it (I would use [name_f]Margo[/name_f]) because I don’t like the ch sound in names that much.

I think that [name_u]March[/name_u] is an adorable nn for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]! It’s very sweet and fresh- my favourite nn is [name_f]May[/name_f], but [name_u]March[/name_u] may just give it a run for it’s money.

I wouldn’t use [name_u]March[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], especially since I would mistake it for [name_f]Marge[/name_f].

I would use the full [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].

My mother-in-law is [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and she goes by [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]

[name_u]March[/name_u] is such a cool name!

My name is a diminutive of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], so I like to play a game with myself and imagine all the names I could go by. I’ve got [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Rita[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (If you REALLY stretch it), and now [name_u]March[/name_u]. Cute!

I like the name [name_u]March[/name_u] as a standalone name very much, and I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. But, if others know your daughter’s name is [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and hear you saying [name_u]March[/name_u] they may think you’re trying to say [name_f]Marge[/name_f] but can’t pronounce it. They may even try to correct you. My uncle calls his granddaughter [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] instead of her name - [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] - and you’d be surprised at how much of a problem this embarrassing situation has caused him. He was once yelled at in public by a stranger for “not getting it right”! Oops!

[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is lovely and I think [name_u]March[/name_u] would be OK as a nn, though it’s not my favourite. I’d use [name_f]Meg[/name_f], but I also really like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f].

This thread is funny to me because my daughter’s name is [name_u]March[/name_u] and from time to time people think her name is [name_f]Marge[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Marge[/name_f] and [name_u]March[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].

My favourite nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is ‘[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]’. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is such an adorable nickname very spunky. I think [name_u]March[/name_u] could defiantly work as a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] it’s quirky.
