NN for Matilda: Maddy or Matty?

DD and I are debating over the spelling of nn for [name]Matilda[/name] - pronounced ‘[name]Maddy[/name]’, does it absolutely have to be written as [name]Matty[/name] or can it be written as [name]Maddy[/name] (as it sounds?). I prefer spelling as [name]Maddy[/name] as [name]Matty[/name] seems too [name]Matthew[/name] for me?

We are deliberating over other possible nn for [name]Matilda[/name] as well, but just wanted clarification on this.
Cheers

If you are going to pronounce it ‘[name]Maddy[/name]’ then I think you should spell it [name]Maddy[/name], I pronounce the nn [name]Matty[/name] with the T.

Cheers for this, that seems logical!

I love the name [name]Matilda[/name]. My husband is so anti every pretty old fashioned name I choose but [name]Matilda[/name] is def one of my top choices. As for the nn, I would probably use [name]Matty[/name] just to be a bit different…I find [name]Maddy[/name] would make me think her name was [name]MAdeline[/name] or [name]MAdison[/name]. But really, it’s whatever you feel comfortable with. I pronounce [name]MAtty[/name] and [name]Maddy[/name] the same way.

I’d find it odd that [name]Maddy[/name]'s real name was [name]Matilda[/name]; [name]Mattie[/name] makes more sense

I always think of [name]Tilly[/name] or [name]Tilda[/name]- but that’s me.

Prefer [name]Matty[/name] over [name]Maddy[/name]- but would spell it [name]Mattie[/name] as it looks more girly and less like [name]Matthew[/name].

I agree with previous posters that [name]Mattie[/name] looks better for [name]Matilda[/name] than [name]Maddy[/name] or [name]Matty[/name]. I also like the suggestion of [name]Tilly[/name]/[name]Tillie[/name]. And let me just say, I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]! I met a little [name]Matilda[/name] just the other day that wasn’t quite a year old yet and she made me fall for the name. It really is lovely and full of spunk all at the same time.

Thank you so much for your input, great feedback! Cheers
