[name]One[/name] of the names we are considering for our daughter is [name]Astrid[/name] but I am a bit bothered by the fact that there is no obvious way to shorten it. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a nn for [name]Astrid[/name]? [name]TIA[/name]!
It’s super hard to find a nickname for [name]Astrid[/name]. I honestly can’t think of any pleasent sounding ones. Are nicknames really importnant for you? I’m just wondering, since I don’t think [name]Astrid[/name] has any. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!
- [name]Athena[/name]
It is a bit of a stretch but [name]Asa[/name] may be a good nickname
I seriously considered [name]Astrid[/name] nn [name]Addy[/name] several months ago… I still really like it. Good luck!
It isn’t that a specific nn is particularly important, but to have no way to shorten it seems like it might get exhausting to always have to call her full name. For example I have a friend name [name]Lindsay[/name], which doesn’t have a clear nn but we often call her Linds which just seems to make it easier. But obviously I couldn’t call [name]Astrid[/name] ‘As’, so I’m just trying to see if we can come up with something shorter that could occasionally be substituted b/c I really do love the name.
That makes sense! I actually looked up the name [name]Astrid[/name] after posting, and I found a few of the suggested nicknames, and I ment to add them to my origional post. Here they are:
Assie
[name]Attie[/name]
[name]Astri[/name]
[name]Astra[/name]
I’m not sure how much you like them, but I think they’re interesting. [name]Hope[/name] that helps!
- [name]Athena[/name]
I’ve loved the name [name]Astrid[/name] for years. I think ‘Ast’ would be a naturally occurring and fine nickname! Really like the pp’s suggestion of ‘[name]Attie[/name]’ as well–adorable and realistic as as a nn for [name]Astrid[/name]. [name]Love[/name] it!!
[name]Love[/name] [name]Astrid[/name]!
I knew a young girl named [name]Asten[/name]; we called her Asty (as-tee).
I think this sounds cute and also works well with [name]Astrid[/name], as they both begin with the same letters.
Good luck!
A bit of a stretch but the ‘tri’ could get you a nn that is pronounced tree…hmm…maybe too far of a stretch?
Perhaps a nn could come with a linked Middle name?
eg:
[name]Astrid[/name] [name]Louise[/name] “[name]Atti[/name]-[name]Lou[/name]”
[name]Astrid[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] “[name]Atti[/name]-[name]Kate[/name]”
As [name]Astrid[/name] is a 2 syllable name she probably won’t need a nn anyway.
[name]Asti[/name] would be my first choice,
If I had a friend named [name]Astrid[/name], I’d call her Trid, Tridie, [name]Trudie[/name].
[name]How[/name] about [name]Aster[/name]…it makes sense to me
What about just “A” for a nn?
I think you could pull off calling her [name]Ace[/name] for short and that’s pretty cute!
I know it isn’t entirely a follow on from [name]Astrid[/name]. But if it was me, her nickname would be [name]Star[/name].
This ones hard. It may be quite a stretch…
[name]Trixie[/name]
[name]Addy[/name]
[name]Asa[/name]
[name]One[/name] of my Swedish friends named [name]Astrid[/name] has always been called [name]Sassa[/name] and Sassan, I absolutely adore Swedish nicknames
A nickname that has been commonly used for [name]Astrid[/name] here in Denmark is [name]Asta[/name]. I prefer that name standing on it’s own though.
[name]Ash[/name] isn’t that much of a stretch- it occaisonally sounds like [name]Ash[/name]-trid if you say it fast. [name]Atti[/name], [name]Astra[/name] and [name]Asta[/name] also might work, though I agree with pp that [name]Astrid[/name] probably won’t need a nickname. Whatever you do, stay away from the nn Assie! Donkey/butt alert.
[name]How[/name] about ‘[name]Star[/name]’? I call my [name]Agnes[/name] ‘Lamb’ so a nn doesn’t have to be a shortening. Having said that we have to accept once they go to school we have no control whatsoever over the nicknames their peers will pick…
