Hi all
Here I am in the final stages of my pregnancy with my third child, we are struggling to narrow down our last few bunch of names. I would like to hear your thoughts or possible suggestions please.
My married surname is a long one (3 syllables), starting with a W making a shorter name preferable.
Rupert
Griffin Nickname Griff - Griff seems to get a marmite (love / hate) reaction!
Stirling - I’ve tried to nudge this into both my sons name and my daughters name but its not worked out either time because its so long without an easy option for a nickname.
Brad - I’m not so keen on Bradley. My son is a sporty loveable little guy and if I end up with a replica of him I think Brad would work.
Ruben - the only thing I dislike is the fact Ruben could be shortened to Rubes like Julian and Jules.
I welcome your first thoughts and we are open to suggestions. We are stuck!
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] is definitely one of my personal favorites although [name_m]Griff[/name_m] and Griffie are inevitable. I really like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] as well: although if you dislike Rubes to [name_m]Ruben[/name_m], I wonder if Rupe or Rupes will be an issue with Rupert…
Here are some other ideas that I hope you’ll enjoy, spanning for the letters A-K:
[name_m]Aaron[/name_m]
[name_u]Adler[/name_u]
[name_u]Asher[/name_u]

[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]

[name_u]Jesse[/name_u]
[name_m]Joel[/name_m]
[name_u]Keegan[/name_u]
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]
Your listed names are not my style. So I can’t really give too much feedback on which is my favourite/prefered. And you already have lots of suggestions.
I will just add these suggestions.
if you like [name_m]Brad[/name_m] but not [name_u]Bradley[/name_u], how about something like [name_m]Bradman[/name_m] or [name_m]Bradford[/name_m]?
[name_u]Stirling[/name_u]- I used to watch a tv show with a character with the name [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and they went by the nn Sterlo almost all of the time.
I like [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] / [name_m]Griff[/name_m]. Also like the nn [name_m]Fin[/name_m] / [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. I also like [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] (maybe nn [name_m]Ben[/name_m] or Benny)
Ideas (sorry for any repeats)
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] or [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] - [name_m]Barney[/name_m]
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] or [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] - [name_u]Alfie[/name_u], [name_u]Will[/name_u], [name_m]Wilf[/name_m], [name_m]Fred[/name_m] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]
[name_u]William[/name_u] or [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] - [name_u]Will[/name_u] or [name_u]Billie[/name_u]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] - [name_m]Ike[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] - [name_u]Sam[/name_u]
[name_u]Leon[/name_u] / [name_u]Leo[/name_u] / [name_u]Lee[/name_u]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] - [name_m]Art[/name_m], [name_u]Artie[/name_u]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_m]Ralph[/name_m] or [name_u]Rafe[/name_u]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] / [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_u]Callum[/name_u] - [name_u]Cal[/name_u]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m]
Thank you for all your replies, it’s been really good to get some fresh eyes on things. The suggestions are brilliant for the nicknames and new options. I’ll sit down with my husband and go through them all.
I secretly love that [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] has had such a popular response because these were initially our first agreed choice but faded away with the many other options that come up when looking through names.
I’m ok with [name_m]Griff[/name_m] being a female singer, I like the idea that names are gender neutral. I knew a [name_m]Griff[/name_m] growing up. He was an absolute gentleman with an eccentric sense of humour, an incredibly likeable and kind person, someone that has stuck with me ever since so the singer won’t measure up.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite of these is definitely [name_u]Stirling[/name_u] or [name_u]Sterling[/name_u]. A sterling name choice! But, yeah, the lack of a clear nickname is a bummer. Not sure if you tend to nickname or not? If not, [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] would be a first choice. He’d just be shortened to Sterl by friends and family which is not bad. I wonder if you like [name_m]Grayling[/name_m]? Admittedly, it is a nature name (OK, it’s a fish name), but it’s also a color name and [name_u]Gray[/name_u] is a cool nn.
[name_f]My[/name_f] second choice is [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] or [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] as you spell it. [name_m]Ben[/name_m] or [name_m]Eben[/name_m] could be cool nns (much better than [name_m]Rube[/name_m] or Rubes!). I wonder if you like [name_m]Eben[/name_m]? I love that one. [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_m]Riordan[/name_m]? Unsure of nn though.
[name_f]My[/name_f] third choice would be [name_m]Bradbury[/name_m] (for [name_u]Ray[/name_u] Bradbury), but I really don’t like [name_m]Brad[/name_m] or [name_u]Bradley[/name_u]. Knew too many duds growing up in the 60’s and 70’s. What about [name_m]Roderick[/name_m]? Nickname [name_m]Roddy[/name_m]?
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] is OK, but [name_m]Griff[/name_m] sounds rough and griftery to me. [name_m]Granger[/name_m], nn [name_m]Grange[/name_m]? [name_m]Grover[/name_m], nn [name_u]Grove[/name_u]?
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] reminds me of [name_m]Murdoch[/name_m], but what about solid old [name_u]Robert[/name_u] with [name_m]Rob[/name_m] or [name_u]Robbie[/name_u] or [name_u]Robin[/name_u] as wonderful nns?
If I’m honest these aren’t my style but I definitely like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] and [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] the most (although I can’t say I like Griff). [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] has a quirky, distinguished feel to it whilst [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] feels strong in a grand, mythological way.
Congratulations on baby number 3 !! I really love all the names you have picked , they feel recognizable but not super popular. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] for you !
[name_m]Griff[/name_m] / Riff/ [name_u]Finn[/name_u] are all great nicknames and also has that sporty vibe.
I also really love [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] ! [name_u]Rue[/name_u] / [name_m]Ben[/name_m] are also fun nicknames!
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u] is great but a non intuitive nickname is my hesitation too ! [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] , [name_m]Serg[/name_m] may work !
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is also a gem !! Another [name_u]Rue[/name_u] name !!
