I see your dilemma!
[name]Juliet[/name] – I agree that this sounds very similar to [name]Scarlett[/name]. Then again, it is a different syllable count, so maybe its not that big of a deal. I think the larger problem comes if you ever have a third girl and the first two have names that are so similar. She might feel like the odd one out.
[name]Violet[/name] – Because this is also a color and has the same number of syllables, I think this one is much to similar to [name]Scarlett[/name]. : /
[name]Ruby[/name] – Because of the color (and, especially, a very similar color) I think this one is too close as well.
[name]Pearl[/name] – I love the name! I think that is a cute connection that they are both names/words featured in the same book. Plus, I like that both names are kind of word names without being overly matchy.
Here are some other names with a similar crisp sound/feel that you might like:
[name]Verity[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Natalia[/name]
[name]Britta[/name]
[name]Marta[/name]
[name]Cosette[/name]
[name]Colette[/name]
[name]Josette[/name]
[name]Hi[/name] [name]Sunshine[/name]!
A few things to add. Husband doesn’t like [name]Pearl[/name]. He likes [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name], and this is our last child, so no other children to deal with naming.
The -et ending in [name]Violet[/name] & [name]Juliet[/name] is pretty matchy with [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] & [name]Scarlett[/name] is a lot of red! If i was going to use one anyway, it would be [name]Juliet[/name]. Other thoughts:
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Viola[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Julia[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Calla[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Elise[/name]
I voted Pearl before seeing your latest post. If this is indeed your last child, then I’d go with Ruby because it would be a cute match and you won’t have to worry about continuing the red theme since the set is finished.
Juliet and Violet both end in -let which I think is tongue twistery when you want to call both your children, just try saying it out loud “Scarlett and Juliet” or “Scarlett and Violet” just too clunky imo.
Overall I think Pearl is the better option just because they are different colors and sounds, but since your DH doesn’t like it, Ruby would be my 2nd pick.
I vote [name]Ruby[/name], it just sounds better with [name]Scarlett[/name], and that was before I even read your thread. Yes, they are both similar in terms of color, but they sound different enough, and just seem to pair well together. If you have a reservation about [name]Pearl[/name] now, trust your gut, otherwise it may continue to irk you as time goes by.
I like [name]Pearl[/name] best. BUt if your husband doesn’t like it, it’s a no go. So my vote would be for [name]Juliet[/name]. It’s your favourite, your husband likes it. They have the same ending, but so what…
What about [name]Violetta[/name]? Personally I think [name]Lucinda[/name], [name]Marion[/name], [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Miriam[/name] would make a great little sisters to [name]Scarlett[/name].
Thanks ladies. I really appreciate your feedback! Right now I’m considering [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] based off of what you ladies are saying. [name]Scarlett[/name] I actually almost named [name]Ruby[/name] at the time. [name]Juliet[/name] is my favorite, but only by a little. The sound of the name [name]Ruby[/name] sounds better with [name]Scarlett[/name] and, [name]Juliet[/name] is gorgeous and classic. I wish this was an easier decision!
Then you have two lovely names you both love! You can choose when you meet the little one. Good luck!
Thank you! If you ladies would continue to vote on [name]Ruby[/name] or [name]Juliet[/name] I’d appreciate it!
Oh, okay, after seeing your second post, my vote is for [name]Juliet[/name]!
What about [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]? I don’t think it’s too matchy, just because of pronunciation: I say [name]Scarlett[/name] more like Scar-lut, but I say [name]Juliet[/name] with a pronounced -et at the end (does that make any sense?). If you suddenly change your mind, and think she should be a [name]Ruby[/name], then you can just call her [name]Ruby[/name], and she can go by her middle name. Plus, it’s a nice connection with her sister. [name]Both[/name] have a traditional J name in there, and both have a red colour name.
If you’ve already got a middle name picked, then I’d say [name]Juliet[/name]. I know someone with daughters called [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name], and it’s just too matchy. [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] is a nice pairing. Similar, but separate enough.
I voted for [name]Juliet[/name]. While I think that [name]Scarlet[/name] & [name]Juliet[/name] are a bit too matchy, [name]Scarlet[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] is really too much red! Would you consider another variation of [name]Juliet[/name]?
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Julianne[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Julia[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Julianna[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Julietta[/name]
for example… I really like [name]Scarlett[/name] & [name]Julianna[/name] personally
I vote [name]Juliet[/name]. I think a classic, romantic name like [name]Juliet[/name] brings out that side of [name]Scarlett[/name], while [name]Scarlett[/name] + [name]Ruby[/name] just makes me think “THEME NAMES!” I don’t mind the similar ending of [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] for the same reason kb5462 mentioned–because I emphasize the first syllable of [name]Scarlett[/name] and the last syllable of [name]Juliet[/name], it sounds pleasantly rhythmic to say the names together.
Oh man, KB…you know I haven’t even considered [name]Ruby[/name] for the middle name! [name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] are gorgeous to me! I think I’m going to ask my husband about this combo. They sound…well, they sound like sisters!
That’s such an interesting option!
I think that’s what my feeling is too, [name]Clare[/name]. [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name] aren’t as “theme-y”.
You could also do [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]. So in the end you can get both, it’s just a matter of which first name you want.
I like [name]Juliet[/name] the best with [name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] is very color themey
[name]Ruby[/name] is another red name
[name]Pearl[/name] is very soft, smooth, and old-fashioned compared to the sharp spunkiness of [name]Scarlett[/name]
Or maybe I should avoid [name]Ruby[/name] for a middle. We are probably going to call [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Jewel[/name]/[name]Jules[/name] for a nickname. It might not go well.
If you tend towards nicknames - although [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name] sound similar, ‘[name]Red[/name]’ and say, ‘[name]Jules[/name]’ do not at all - and once they are adults the similarity of their names just matters less and less. I wouldn’t be afraid of [name]Juliet[/name] IF you are a nickname family. [name]Ruby[/name] seems too similar to me, unless you want people to ask about it all the time.
