So recently, I’ve really been thinking over the name [name]Noel[/name] for a boy; pronounced nole (silent e, as in hole). I can’t seem to think of middle names that would go well and flow well with this name, except I thought of [name]Noel[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]. Any suggestions and what do you think of that particular combination? Also, I’d love to see what you think of the name! Thanks in advance ![]()
I knew a girl named [name]Noel[/name] (yes, spelled like that) in high school, and I’ve never met a boy with that name, so it feels very feminine to me.
I don’t hate the idea of it pronounced like mole, but it just seems rather dated and sad. I’d prefer [name]Cole[/name] or [name]Noah[/name].
[name]Andrew[/name] goes well with it though.
I knew a [name]Noel[/name] in elementary school. He was a quiet, nice boy so that’s my association with the name. What about
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Asher[/name]
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Mark[/name]
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Philip[/name]
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Richard[/name]
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Simon[/name]
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Tobias[/name]
I think [name]Noel[/name] [name]Andrew[/name] sounds good, although [name]Noel[/name] isn’t my style, I think it’s a good name.
I like how the name [name]Noel[/name] sounds, especially with a great mn like [name]Andrew[/name]. However because of the girls called [name]Noel[/name] I have met, I would read and automatically pronounce the name as “No-ell” (as in the christmas carol!)
Some middle name suggestions:
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Grey[/name]
[b][name]Noel[/name] [name]Austin[/name] [/b]
*[name]Noel[/name] [name]Rhys[/name]
*[name]Noel[/name] [name]Robert[/name]
*[name]Noel[/name] [name]Frederik[/name]
I also like [name]Noel[/name] [name]Philip[/name], as suggested above
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Andrew[/name] is still my favourite though!
or consider [name]Noah[/name] or [name]Nate[/name] as the first name instead?
I love [name]Noel[/name]. The combo [name]Noel[/name] [name]Andrew[/name] is great. [name]Noel[/name] rhymes with mole, [name]Noelle[/name] is the [name]Christmas[/name] carol. [name]Noel[/name] is so much better than [name]Noah[/name], I say stick with [name]Noel[/name]. [name]Noah[/name] is highly overdone.
Noel is a nice name, and Noel Andrew is a fine combination.

[name]Noel[/name] [name]Andrew[/name] sounds nice, they fit together well. I went to school with a [name]Noel[/name], he was funny, smart and well-liked, I have a good male association to the name.
Why not spell is [name]Nole[/name] instead? [name]Noel[/name] makes me pn it no-ell, like it is supposed to be pn and is very christmasy. It also looks feminine.
[name]Noel[/name] and [name]Noelle[/name] are pronounced the same way “no-el”. Why not avoid confusion and spell it [name]Nole[/name] or Knoll?
I like it, I know the prn you mean, like Noel for Noel Gallagher so I think it would be fine. Also, you usually introduce someone by their name and then they see it spelled and I don’t think it would throw that many people even if they were unaware that you would spell “nole” that way.
FWIW it’s Noel is actually a male name IMO, I’ve only met girls named Noelle so I’m not sure where the feminine feedback is coming from.
Thanks everyone! @dantea and judyariel I was actually thinking of [name]Noel[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]! I also love your suggestion of [name]Noel[/name] [name]Henry[/name], dantea!
It’e feminine because the “correct” pn of [name]Noel[/name], is No-ell, which is the same as [name]Noelle[/name]
I know several [name]Noel[/name]'s that are men (pronounced [name]Nole[/name]), it is a very popular Jewish name in NY at least. I have also found it odd that so many Jewish men are named [name]Noel[/name] but I don’t really know the history.
There are several famous male [name]Noel[/name]'s too –
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Gallagher[/name], former member of British rock band, Oasis
[name]Noel[/name] [name]Paul[/name] Stookey of the folk trio [name]Peter[/name], [name]Paul[/name], and [name]Mary[/name]
Noël Coward (1899-1973), British actor, playwright, and popular music composer
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
Not when it’s a boys name. I’ve known several male Noels and they all pronounced their names to rhyme with hole. There have also been different male television characters with this name and they pronounced it the same way ([name]Scott[/name] [name]Foley[/name]'s character on “Felcitiy” and the co-worker who had a crush on [name]Roz[/name] on “[name]Frasier[/name]” are the first that come to mind) When you are using it as a girls name (which I’ve only seen spelled [name]Noelle[/name]) or in reference to [name]Christmas[/name], then it’s pronounced no-ell.
I put correct in quotes for a reason… haha, the word, [name]Noel[/name], means [name]Christmas[/name] and is pn No-ell, not saying that it’s not pronounced Nohl as a name for boys, just pointing out why it can be feminine. Although pronouncing it Nohl and spelling it [name]Noel[/name] is very confusing since people are used to [name]Noel[/name] being No-ell do to the word and song “[name]Noel[/name], [name]Noel[/name], [name]Born[/name] is the king of [name]Israel[/name]…”
Depending where you live, how it’s pn varies, but in [name]America[/name] I’ve NEVER heard anyone sing it as “Nohl Nohl, born is…”
Anyway, I think Knoll or [name]Nole[/name] is better alternative to avoid confusion. But it’s ultimately your decision, just my opinion.
[name]Noel[/name] and [name]Noelle[/name] are the same name and are pronounced the same way BUT when people use [name]Noel[/name] for boys they choose to change it to noll because they think no-ell is feminine. It’s an accepted mispronunciation
If I saw [name]Noel[/name] I’d say “no-ell”. If I learned [name]Noel[/name] was a boy, I’d say “no-wool” basically the same as the surname [name]Nowell[/name]. But then again some pronounce [name]Nowell[/name] as one syllable “noll”
I just talked to a man today named noel but said as NO-[name]EL[/name] like the female version. I like it on a man said that way.
I’d pronounce [name]Noel[/name] only as No-elle if it were spelled Noël, with the umlaut, which is how I always see it spelled at [name]Christmas[/name]. Otherwise I would say “knoll”, that’s the only way I’ve heard it as a male name. [name]Noelle[/name] is the feminine to me. I love the sound of [name]Noel[/name].
also [name]Nolan[/name], which could be a longer version.
