Non-Biblical Boy Names

I’m just curious to hear some of everybody’s favorite nonbiblical names for boys. I like more classic, traditional names and finding ones with no ties to the bible is actually pretty hard to do.

I was raised with the teaching that names - especially boy names - should all be Biblical. I stuck to that idea with DS1 but shocked my grandparents with DS2 and DS3  I never understood that rule anyway, there are only a few actually usable Biblical names or else you end up sounding like ‘The Children of the Corn’ LOL

My favorites are…

  • [name_m]William[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Ryder[/name_m]

[name_m]Casper[/name_m] is the name of one of the 3 wise men

I feel you on this, I deliberately avoid biblical names because my partner and I are not [name_m]Christian[/name_m].

I’m pretty sure none of the names in my signature are biblical? If they are that’s by accident! I’d say nature names are also a solid way to go, although most of them are not necessarily “classic and traditional.” What about [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] or [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]?

Gaspar technically…or Jasper or Casper or other variations. However, it’s just a theory that those were the wise men, the Bible never refers to them by name or calls them kings, but wise men or magi.

In case you wanted to still use Casper. or Jasper. Still usable if you’re avoiding biblical names because they aren’t actually in the Bible.

(I think none of these are biblical names, but I’m not religious so I’m not that familiar with these things :))

Sorry for any repeats

You’re going to be very hard-pressed to find a European name without any ties to Christianity. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it doesn’t appear in the Bible, there are a plethora of saints and other blessed people acknowledged by the Church.

Some of the names mentioned previously are actually in the Bible, like [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].

Most surnames have no connection to the Bible e.g. [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Alden[/name_u], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], [name_u]Stanley[/name_u], [name_m]Russell[/name_m], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Harrison[/name_m].

People mentioned in the Bible are just people. Many of them weren’t Jewish or [name_m]Christian[/name_m], incl [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. And because of the history of the [name_u]West[/name_u], it’s not like a Biblical name marks you as religious, with some exceptions. It’s like staying away from the top 50, or 100, or 500, even when you love a name. It’s a negative restriction, and you’re only shooting yourself in the foot. Choose names you love - no one is going to grumble at you on this one.

I actually love Biblical names but my DH is less fussed (he likes classic, but not especially Biblical) so here’s some I found to suggest to him:

[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Gregory[/name_m]
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]
[name_m]Lysander[/name_m]
[name_m]Llewelyn[/name_m]
[name_m]Quentin[/name_m]
[name_m]Damian[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucius[/name_m]
[name_m]Oisin[/name_m]
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
[name_m]Aldous[/name_m]

Some of these have various ties to saints but they’re not Biblical and tbh from my religious perspective saints don’t count.
