I’m looking for classic boys names that would fit with [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], but that don’t feel overused or stale. For example, I love [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but I feel like I hear it so much nowadays that it’s almost expected.
[name_f]Non[/name_f]-boring classic boy names is the holy grail of baby names, in my opinion. So hard to achieve!! Everything seems overdone. Some ideas:
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] (263) - Such a good suggestion! This is my top pick for you.
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] (48) - Definitely done a lot, but I feel like I don’t know a bunch of little Thomases? Where did all the Tommys go?
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m] (32) - Not a personal favorite, but it does feel like an underused classic.
[name_m]George[/name_m] (124) - [name_u]Royal[/name_u] status has boosted it, but I’ve still never met a baby [name_m]George[/name_m].
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] (31) - The most popular on this list, but I love a [name_m]Gabe[/name_m].
[name_m]Adam[/name_m] (77) - The original name! So sturdy and handsome.
[name_m]John[/name_m] (27) - I’m pretty sure all these Johns must be called [name_m]Jack[/name_m] because I think [name_m]John[/name_m] on a little one sounds so refreshing. Probably too close to [name_u]James[/name_u], though.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] (213) - There are so many great namesakes for a little [name_m]Peter[/name_m] (Rabbit, [name_m]Pan[/name_m], etc). I would love to meet a young [name_m]Pete[/name_m].
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] (38) - [name_u]Chris[/name_u] feels overdone, but [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] in full is so nice. I also love nicknames [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_m]Kip[/name_m], [name_m]Topher[/name_m], etc.
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] (30) - Like [name_m]Adam[/name_m], just a solid, nice name.
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (112) - With the nickname [name_u]Nat[/name_u]! [name_u]Love[/name_u].
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] (164) - I just like the way this sounds with [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].
“Boring” is pretty subjective! These are names I think of as solidly classic, but would still seem fresh to hear at any of the nine million playgroups/storytimes/etc I go to:
My tastes lean more towards unusual/obscure/outlandish than classic, but I will say I think [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]/[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and [name_u]Seth[/name_u] are handsome names!
