Noor ✨

Recently I have been loving the name Noor, I love the meaning and the fact it means light in Arabic. I do have a question however, although I am of Arab decent, I am not Muslim but Christian and I know that this name is mostly seen as a Islamic girl name, what do you think about the name and would this be a problem?

THANK YOU

I think it is fine. [name_f]Noor[/name_f] is also a [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] name for [name_f]Nora[/name_f].

[name_f]Noor[/name_f] might be a muslim, but not necessarily so. It’s definitely one of the arabic names that works easier cross-culturally, cause it’s simple and similar to [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I think the combo / full name influences it too in this case. If it’s something distinctively islamic, then yes. But if you pair [name_f]Noor[/name_f] with something more “neutral”, then no, I wouldn’t think she must be muslim.

[name_f]Noor[/name_f] is a gorgeous name - it feels international (Dutch and Arabic), stylish, sleek and interesting. I have met plenty of Aliyah/Aaliyah/Aleahs and Leilas who aren’t of Arabic origin after all, so it could work?
I’d maybe test it out on those around you, see how they respond - especially if you have any Muslim friends!

I do believe it’s pronounced differently in Dutch vs Arabic, so I personally wouldn’t call it international like some other berries have (since each pronunciation is only associated with one culture) but I still think it’s fine! I agree with the idea of maybe asking some Muslim friends or acquaintances what they think, but I wouldn’t be surprised to meet a non-Muslim Noor.

Oh, I like it. I met a little [name_f]Noor[/name_f] last week - she is from Bangladesh.

[name_m]Can[/name_m] someone explain the pronunciation differences in the name between Arabic and [name_m]Dutch[/name_m]? I would say it as in the ending of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
