Nora, Heidi, or Lila?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries!

I need your help please! I keep going back and forth on these 3 names and can’t decide which one I want! Between [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] (pronounced [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-LAH), which one do you prefer and why?

I tend to like simple, non-frilly names and these seem to fit the bill although I feel like they all give off a different vibe when you say them, which could be bad or good so I wanted to get your input.

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] I feel gives off a classy, retro-cool vibe but can also sound old ladyish or not fresh sounding. I think it is a respectable name that fits a baby girl and also a woman, which I think is important for a name. I do think this name is becoming a little too popular though.

[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] I think is a name that is widely known but not commonly used. I think it sounds slightly exotic and fresh but still classic. My concern with this name is pop culture’s influence on it, i.e. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] Klum and [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] Montag. I also feel like this could come off as a bit ditzy (probably because of pop culture), which makes it not as respectable of a name… what do you guys think?

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] I think is a fun and cutesy name. I think it is cute for a baby girl but not sure how it sounds on a woman. I don’t think of this as a classic name. I’m considering this this name mainly because it is a variation of my mom’s name, [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and also an alternative to the more popular name [name_f]Mila[/name_f] (MEE-LAH)

Your feedback would be very helpful and greatly appreciated! Please feel free to say whatever comes to mind and suggest other names you think I would like!

I love [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]! My cousin has a little girl named [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], and the name just suits her perfectly. I feel like the name is common enough that I don’t think of [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] Klum (and I’m not really sure who [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] Montag is). I would probably think of the story of [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], if anything. And that is definitely not a ditzy character.

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] is fine, not my favorite but I definitely see the appeal. I do not care for [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

Thank you for this @lisaahs! I really want to love [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]! Maybe pop culture doesn’t play into this as much as I thought…

I absolutely love [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]! It doesn’t seem ditzy to me at all, and honestly I do not think of pop culture references to the name when I hear it (and I watched a lot of [name_u]America[/name_u]'s Next Top Model for a while). [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] just sounds fun, and it makes me excited to hear it!

I’m okay with [name_f]Nora[/name_f], I just find it a little so-so, and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] would be hard for me to remember because I would want to say LIE-la instead of [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-LAH.

I like [name_f]Nora[/name_f], but I love [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]! I definitely think it ages well. I always picture a kind, bubbly, warm hearted person when I think of the name [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]. It’s such a sunshiny name to me.

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] is definitely cute, and I really like that ithonours your mother, but the name feels insubstantial to me.

Perhaps if you want to honour a [name_f]Lily[/name_f], you could use a variation of [name_f]Lily[/name_f], or use a name that means [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. For example:

[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]

Good luck!

Of your names, I like [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] the best. If [name_f]Lila[/name_f] was [name_f]Mila[/name_f], that would be my favorite, but I don’t like [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. I do like the tribute to your mom so…

You could possibly do
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Lilian[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]

Or other variations of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] for a middle name.

@dragon_flame [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] make me excited to hear too! I think it gives off a lot of energy. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] does sound kind of boring when compared to [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]… and I totally have the same issue of wanting to say LIE-LAH instead of [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-LAH because of how [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is spelled! I keep trying to talk myself into it because of my mom…

@claireelisewren thank you for your honest opinion! I never thought of [name_f]Lila[/name_f] as as an insubstantial name but now that you brought it up, it doesn’t feel like a solid name  I’m happy to know that you have such a positive image of [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]!

@cocobean1234 I agree, I do like [name_f]Mila[/name_f] better than [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. [name_f]Mila[/name_f] was on my list for a while until I discovered how popular it was. Then I came across [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and the whole relation to my mom’s name and thought it was a great alternative to the popular option.

I am starting to get the idea that I should reconsider [name_f]Lila[/name_f] :stuck_out_tongue: [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] seems to be winning so far with [name_f]Nora[/name_f] being the runner up!

I don’t like the name [name_f]Lila[/name_f] pronounced lee-la. That will confuse everyone. It doesn’t seem original. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is the strongest name on your list, the most unique, and the most energetic. I also happen to think it’s very pretty. It’s fresh - go with [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]!

@anyagreenwich Thank you for your input! I think it will confuse everyone also  I love that you think [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is a unique, energetic, and fresh! think I am loving [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] more and more

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] is one of my all time favorites but both [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] are lovely also. I think [name_f]Nora[/name_f] works so well on both a child and a grown woman. It’s so strong, but still feminine. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] doesn’t make me think of the pop culture references you mentioned (and I watch a lot of project runway). The first thing that comes to mind is the children’s book which I think is a great association. I like [name_f]Lila[/name_f], but I could see you having some pronunciation issues with people pronouncing it Lie-luh instead. In all honesty, you can’t go wrong with these names. Any one of them would be lovely.

I like [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] in that order. I think the pronunciation of [name_f]Lila[/name_f] will be an issue…mostly pronounced Lie-luh.

What do you think of
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leila[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

My favourite is [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]

I am not a fan of [name_f]Nora[/name_f]

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] - I would have chosen this but for that pronunciation it really should be spelled [name_f]Leela[/name_f]. I just can’t see [name_f]Lila[/name_f] not being pronounced Lye-la.

I am in the minority because I think [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is…bleh. Very unattractive to me.

I’m not too fond of [name_f]Nora[/name_f], either, but [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is very pretty! At first, I would assume Lye-luh, as well, but a different spelling could fix mispronunciations.

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] would be my favorite, but I think you’d get a lot pronunciation confusion with Lie-la (which is also a beautiful name, but obviously not the same!), and that makes me less sure about using it. I almost wonder if [name_f]Leela[/name_f] would be a better choice, but [name_f]Lila[/name_f] does look nicer. I know two [name_f]Lilas[/name_f]–one says it as [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-la, and one as Lie-la. The one who pronounces it [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-la told me it comes from Sanskrit. She is an adult, so I can easily see [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-la on a grown woman.

I really like [name_f]Nora[/name_f]–I agree with what you wrote about it, and I think the only downside is that it does seem to be rapidly rising in popularity. Personally, I’m not too concerned with names at this level of popularity, though–it seems likely you will meet another, but it’s not like every other girl her age would have this name.

I think [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is sweet, and I don’t have any negative associations with it (I do think of [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] Klum, but mostly [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] from the classic children’s book and movie, and neither is a super powerful/exclusive association to me). I’m just not personally as drawn to the sound/style as [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f], but I think it’s certainly a respectable name. If you like it, I think it may actually be the best choice of the three: less common than [name_f]Nora[/name_f], but without the (possible) pronunciation issues of [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] is beautiful!
I don’t care for [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] either, but I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. It is so elegant and classic and not too popular. I like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] pronounced the usual way as well, but seems like it’s moving up in popularity really fast. I think you need an alternative spelling if you want to use another pronunciation…

Since you pronounce [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-lah, then [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is my favourite. (I pronounce [name_f]Lila[/name_f] LIY-lah).

I vote for [name_f]Nora[/name_f], I have a friend in her mid 30th that I have known since she was 18 and I have never equated it with old. I see it as a vintage classic that cannot be tainted by popularity

My favorite is [name_f]Nora[/name_f], is vintage and gorgeous! I don’t like so much [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and the pronunciation of [name_f]Lila[/name_f] could be a problem when your girl grows up. (maybe like a middle)

What about:
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]

No one will pronounce [name_f]Lila[/name_f] as [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-luh, it’s Lie-luh! I know a [name_f]Leela[/name_f] spelled this way. I would spell it [name_f]Leela[/name_f], [name_f]Leala[/name_f] or Leighla.

I love [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] equally.
