I’m looking to create a longer list of Nordic names (particularly Finnish and Swedish), as I’ve recently fallen in love with them! I’ve gotten a small few that I really like, but my knowledge of Nordic names is pretty limited as I live in the states, and I figured some of the lovely berries could help me curate a collection of them.
Most of the names that I myself have found and really liked are boys names, but I am also looking for girls names to add!
So far I have:
[name_u]Love[/name_u] - Swedish form of the name [name_m]Louis[/name_m], pronounced LOO-veh
[name_m]Jaako[/name_m] / [name_m]Jaakko[/name_m] - Finnish boys name coming from [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], pronounced YAA-ko
[name_m]Ukko[/name_m] - Finnish boys name meaning old man or thunder (Ukkonen is the diminutive form of the name [name_m]Ukko[/name_m], and the Finnish word for thunder), pronounced OOK-ko
[name_m]Otso[/name_m] - Finnish boys name meaning bear, pronounced OHT-soh
[name_f]Lumi[/name_f] - Finnish girls name meaning snow, pronounced LOO-mee
Ruska - Finnish word that refers to autumnal colors and foliage, pronounced RYOO-ska
[name_m]Eetu[/name_m] - Finnish variation of name [name_u]Edward[/name_u], pronounced EH-too
[name_m]Urho[/name_m] - Finnish name meaning brave, pronounced OOHR-ho / UR-ho (pronunciation is hard to write, ooh as in the word goo, and from what I know the -r almost sounds like an -l, reminding me of the letter ㄹ in Korean if that helps any!)
[name_m]Anton[/name_m] - Scandinavian short form of names like [name_m]Antony[/name_m], [name_m]Antonius[/name_m], etc, pronounced ahn-TON
[name_m]Leif[/name_m] - Scandinavian name meaning heir, generally pronounced LAYF in Scandinavian and Nordic countries, but can be pronounced as LEEF or LAIF in [name_f]English[/name_f].
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] - A Scandinavian name meaning fair, pronounced ING-grit
All information I have on these names has come from Nameberry or websites similar to it, so I apologize if any of it is incorrect! I have included as many pronunciations as possible, and I found most of these online, but some of them I could not find written guides, and instead had to refer to videos and write the phonetics myself which I am absolutely terrible at, so once again, I apologize if any of that is incorrect!
I would love to see what name suggestions come to mind from the list above, thank you all in advance!
