Hi everyone!
Trying for a second, and we are struggling on agreeing on a brother for James Aleksandur Fraiser (nn Jamie) his dad is scottish and Im Faroese (think Icelandic!) We are struggling finding a boys name that fits with Jamie, is easy to say in both languages and that we like! I adore proper old Scandinavian names such as Haftór, Tórleif, Sverri, Eirikur, Hávarður, Einar, Freyr and such, where my partner is much more conservative, and just does not like most names I come up with We’d like to keep the three name going, with one of the middles being Edmund.
Any help appreciated
Would your partner be unwilling to compromise? I think if you’re picking a first name that fits his style of English/Scottish traditional, it’s only fair that you get to use an old Scandinavian name of your choice as a middle name!
James is a very traditional name, and for a brother the first ideas that come to mind are:
Thomas
Arthur
Alfie
George
Robin
Benjamin
Elliot
Ewan
Finn
Felix
Freddie
Fergus
August
Henry
Kit
Callum
Louis
Leo
Leon
Laurence
Maxwell
Nathaniel
Oscar
Philip
Rory
Raphael
Theodore
Toby
Vincent
William
Warren
For some more Nordic choices, I wouldn’t be shocked to meet a Jamie with a brother called Soren, Axel, Anders, Stellan, Lars, Magnus, Oskar, Henrik, Ari (not Scandinavian in origin, but popular in Iceland), Bo, Viktor, Josef, or Mathias. These choices are generally Nordic and not directly Faroese, so they may not fit your criteria, but I thought I’d throw them out there!

[name_m]Oskar[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Jakob[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Albert[/name_m] [name_u]Rune[/name_u] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
here are some that I hope find a middle ground! good luck.
[name_m]Broderick[/name_m] “Brodie/Ricky”
[name_u]Maxwell[/name_u]
[name_m]Nicolai[/name_m]
[name_m]Tomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]
[name_u]Emanuel[/name_u]
[name_m]Alec[/name_m]
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u]
[name_u]Leon[/name_u]
[name_u]Walter[/name_u]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_u]Daven[/name_u]
[name_u]David[/name_u]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Heath[/name_m]
[name_m]Maddoc[/name_m]
[name_u]Maddox[/name_u]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]
[name_m]Mac[/name_m]
[name_m]Lief[/name_m] / [name_m]Liev[/name_m]
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]
Some combos I like:
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Madoc[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]David[/name_u] “Mac”
[name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] [name_m]Broderick[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] “Nico”
[name_m]Broderick[/name_m] [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] “Brodie”
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]Emanuel[/name_u] “Rossy”
[name_m]Heath[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]Emanuel[/name_u]
[name_m]Fingal[/name_m] (fair stranger) and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] (from the fjord-land) come to mind as cool Scottish-Norse crossovers, as well as [name_m]Kirk[/name_m] (the Scots borrowed that from Old Norse), [name_m]Finnian[/name_m], and [name_u]Finley[/name_u]. Also [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] / [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] - [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] became popular in the Nordic countries thanks to a Scottish writer’s popular poems (Macpherson’s Ossianic poems) and that link makes it particularly fun for me - that’s there [name_m]Ossian[/name_m] / Ossi come from too, whereas [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] was originally common in Scandinavia and later spread to [name_u]Scotland[/name_u].
Also, [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], [name_m]Anton[/name_m], [name_m]Emil[/name_m], [name_m]Kasper[/name_m], [name_m]Andreas[/name_m], [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], [name_u]Adrian[/name_u], [name_m]Lukas[/name_m], [name_m]Nikolas[/name_m], [name_u]Henry[/name_u] and [name_m]Artur[/name_m] / [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] are some classic boy names that travel well intentionally. (I’m a [name_u]Finn[/name_u] living in [name_u]Scotland[/name_u] so had these all on my list and ended up with a [name_u]Robin[/name_u] )
I think Lundi could be another sweet middle name contender since it means puffin and [name_u]Scotland[/name_u] has a large population of them, another link between the two cultures.
[name_u]Or[/name_u] to match Aleksandur, maybe…
[name_m]Niklas[/name_m]
[name_m]Matias[/name_m]
[name_m]Rikard[/name_m]
[name_m]Sakarias[/name_m]
Salmundur
[name_m]Johannes[/name_m]
[name_m]Julius[/name_m]
(I’m rooting for an Old Norse middle though!)
I think [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Freyr[/name_m] would be a great middle name combo for you! And, I’d suggest another classic, universal first name with a nickname to match [name_u]James[/name_u] “Jamie”.
Maybe [name_u]Charles[/name_u] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Freyr[/name_m] “Charlie” or [name_u]John[/name_u] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Freyr[/name_m] “Jack” or “Johnny”? Oh! [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_u]Henry[/name_u] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Freyr[/name_m] “Hank”!
Alternatively, I like [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] as a first name for you! [name_m]Classic[/name_m] and has nn options like [name_m]Ned[/name_m] & Ted(dy).
[name_u]Liam[/name_u]
[name_m]Gunnar[/name_m]
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_u]William[/name_u]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]
[name_m]Ivor[/name_m]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
I haven’t seen [name_m]Aulay[/name_m] suggested yet. It’s an Anglicized form of the Scottish Gaelic for [name_m]Olaf[/name_m].
