I’ve been playing around with my lists recently and I’m wondering if you wonderful Berries could help me.*[name_f]My[/name_f] children are [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] being a pretty obvious tree name and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] meaning Barberry tree in Spanish. I love that the names have that connection, but more than that, its a sort of secret connection. Its got me thinking that if I had a third child (unlikely, but you never know) it would be great to have another tree or tree related name, but a subtle, hidden one. I definitely wouldn’t have an obvious [name_f]Willow[/name_f] or a [name_u]Cedar[/name_u] etc., that wouldn’t work for me.
So are there are tree experts out there that know of any obscure tree names that would work? [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] appeals to me and I don’t think the tree connection is too obvious.
Or are they any names that have been given to trees? For example I was really pleased to find out that there is a popular genus of fig tree called [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] which is one of my all time favourites!
[name_u]Angel[/name_u] [name_u]Oak[/name_u]
[name_m]Merlin[/name_m]'s [name_u]Oak[/name_u]
[name_u]Salem[/name_u] [name_u]Oak[/name_u]
[name_m]Thor[/name_m]'s [name_u]Oak[/name_u]
there is also a [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] tree, [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] tree.
Some that could also work:
Teak
[name_u]Spruce[/name_u]
Yew
Larch
Mulberry
[name_f]Cherry[/name_f]
[name_f]Blossom[/name_f]
The Menoa Tree from the Inheritance Cycle by [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] Paolini.
Shenmue, the [name_f]Cherry[/name_f] blossom tree from the video game Shenmue. The game itself is named after this tree.
Telperion and Laurelin, the Two Trees of Valinor, from The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien.
[name_f]Maple[/name_f]
[name_u]Oak[/name_u]
[name_f]Blossom[/name_f]
[name_u]Silver[/name_u] (as in silverbirch?)
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
Kauri (largest tree found in [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand)
Oooh, I really like [name_f]Acacia[/name_f] and [name_u]Linden[/name_u]. [name_u]Linden[/name_u] makes me think of the broad avenue “Unter den [name_u]Linden[/name_u]” in [name_m]Berlin[/name_m], named after the trees that line the street. Other options might be [name_u]Yarrow[/name_u], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], or [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] (from [name_m]Eoghan[/name_m], means “born from the yew tree”.
Some that I think that are not that obvious to the average non-name-nerd are:
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]
[name_u]Alani[/name_u]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_u]Ellery[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Ilana[/name_f]/Alona
[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]
Koa
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_f]Tamar[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Briony[/name_f]
[name_u]Nima[/name_u]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_f]Eila[/name_f]
[name_f]Kezia[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]/[name_f]Lara[/name_f]
[name_f]Orna[/name_f]
Ornella
[name_f]Pomona[/name_f]
Amora
[name_f]Samara[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashton[/name_u]
[name_m]Arvid[/name_m]
[name_u]Dara[/name_u]
[name_m]Lars[/name_m]
[name_m]Lennox[/name_m]
[name_f]Senna[/name_f]
Alder - too close to arlo, though
[name_m]Kiefer[/name_m]
Tilia - latin form of linden
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] (?)
[name_f]Melora[/name_f]
[name_u]Adair[/name_u]
[name_f]Melia[/name_f] - greek for ash tree
[name_f]Raisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] you like any!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite for you is [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Melia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]! I love your kids names =)
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] (means elm)
[name_m]Birch[/name_m] (ok this is sort of obvious)
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m] (so is this but i kind of love it so)
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_f]Cypress[/name_f]
Alona (oak tree)
[name_f]Cerese[/name_f]/[name_f]Cerise[/name_f] (tree and its fruit/cherry)
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] (yes its a city but it also means juniper tree. I don’t know if that’s too close to just juniper on its own for you though.)
[name_f]Ilana[/name_f] (hebrew name meaning oak tree)
[name_f]Pomona[/name_f] (roman goddess of fruit trees. Oddly specific divine title, don’t you think?)
[name_f]Sadira[/name_f] (lotus tree)
[name_m]Lennox[/name_m] (scottish for elm grove)
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] (means near holly trees. I like it for both genders.)
[name_m]Nash[/name_m] (means by ash trees)
With [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], I personally like [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] for a girl and [name_m]Nash[/name_m], [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] and [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] for a boy. I also favour [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] and [name_f]Pomona[/name_f] (Actually, I really like a lot of these names. Trees. Who knew?)
