[name_f]Do[/name_f] any other berries have names that they love the sound of inside their head but once they say it out loud it seems to lose it’s shine? [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] is that name for me, I think it must be my accent.
I’ve had that can’t think of any at the moment but I’ve had that happen
Names that are like that for me:
[name_u]Hartley[/name_u]
[name_u]Isa[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
Aubergine
[name_f]Aisling[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleonora[/name_f]
I have a similar thing. I liked the name [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] for a girl at one point but around that time, some girl introduced herself as [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] and I couldn’t like it anymore.
It had nothing to do with the girl, like we didn’t interact or anything after the initial introduction. But I remember thinking ‘yeah nope, not for me’ after she said “[name_m]Hi[/name_m], my name is [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]”
Georgia[/name_f]]
The same thing happened to the the other day, I went through a fast food drive thru, the girls name was [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]. She had to be early 20’s… but just seeing her (she was pretty too, nothing wrong) I absolutely just could not accept her name was [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]. The name instantly felt weird and wrong and not at all like a name lol. And I think it was more the name than her, but now I just can’t stand that name lol.
I have a little (well she is almost 7 now) distant cousin [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], she’s so adorable and her name has fit perfectly for her since day 1. I love saying her name too it comes out really girly and exotic sounding to me. It’s funny how different names can be for people though.
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is gorgeous. Arrrrrilla, as it comes out in the accents of the deep South, is not.
Yes, names had a way of sneaking onto my list without me saying them out loud. For example, I used to adore [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], but once I said it out loud (and my mother insisted it sounded like cistern), I couldn’t like it anymore. The same thing with [name_f]Pomeline[/name_f] (sounds like I am making fun of a British person), [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] (sounds amazing in a [name_m]French[/name_m] accent, but I live in Australia, and nobody would say it like that. You would get a-POLE-leen or a-POLE-line), etc. There are a lot more, but those are the only three I can think of now. [name_f]My[/name_f] main challenge is finding a name that sounds decent in a really strong Australian accent (I don’t have one, but lots of people I know do). I like a lot of foreign names, so that is a bit of a problem.
Definitely have been there! I had a name crush on [name_f]Junia[/name_f] for while, but when I say it aloud, it just sounded like I was saying “junior” in a fake Southern accent. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] also sounds lovely in my head but weird aloud.
@nooshi - I have the same issues with [name_m]French[/name_m] names. I like how they sound in [name_m]French[/name_m], but I know that around here, no one will do that naturally and they will sound weird. I mean, we have to learn [name_m]French[/name_m] in school and everything, but people in my city are unlikely to guess that something is a [name_m]French[/name_m] name and say it right unless it’s like a stereotypical [name_m]French[/name_m] name, like [name_u]Michel[/name_u] or [name_m]Pierre[/name_m] or something.
[name_f]Iphigenia[/name_f] sounded…inappropriate when I said it out loud, so it’s been off my list for months now.
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] have a rich antiquity yet seem so cool. But out loud [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is just “fee-bee” and [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m] sounds close to “eff 'em.”
Also [name_f]Virginia[/name_f]. On paper and in my head I find it beautiful, but when I say it, I’m suddenly very aware of the “gin,” “virgin,” and similarity to “vagina.” Darn.
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] are like that for me.
For me it’s [name_u]Echo[/name_u]… love the name on paper but out loud its a little off.
I love Firenze for a boy, I’d actually use it if the E on the end was silent
There are loads. I can’t think of any now, but it’s so annoying!
I am totally the same way with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], I love it written down. I love seeing it in combos. And when I say it slowly, and really savor the syllables, I love it. But when I say it fast with my country accent… yikes. Doesn’t sound that great.
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f], [name_f]Isolda[/name_f], and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Grainne[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (either in the [name_m]French[/name_m] or the English pronunciation). And I totally agree on [name_f]Isolda[/name_f].
I think I got over it, but I remember it happening distinctly in two cases! Firstly with [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] (I loved how the combo looked and balanced out, and I was fine with [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], but [name_f]Elise[/name_f], I was just like, “Nope. Can’t do [name_f]Elise[/name_f].” And then I had a minor freak-out because I had just moments ago felt that [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] was the PERFECT addition to my list. haha.
The other time it happened was with my current (and long-time!) favorite, [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. I was in love with it for probably half a year (and had been saying it aloud all along, and writing it, and just about everything else, because this is major-crush here, lol), and then one day at work, I said “[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]” out loud to myself, and I was like, “Oh, no. Oh, no, ohnoohnoohno!!!” because it sounded fine when anyone [name_f]ELSE[/name_f] said it, but when I said it, the “L” at the end wasn’t really pronounced, and I just thought it sounded awful coming off my tongue. Thankfully, I got over it in about a week, because I’m very much in love with [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] still, and I like how it sounds coming off my tongue now.
