What do you think, Berries? [name]Do[/name] you know anyone with this name? What is your impression? Honest thoughts and opinions please.
I think of the ([name]IMO[/name]) schmaltzy book/movie Where the Heart Is. That association makes the name feel a little trashy and saccharine to me. I also think of Novocain, the drug. But I see its similarities to [name]Rosalie[/name] and [name]Coralie[/name] and appreciate how it could be pretty…
I want to like it but something about it makes me cringe a little; I think it reminds me of neveah (shudder). However I think the simpler, [name]Nova[/name] is beautiful and would be a great choice.
I also immediately think of Where the Heart is with Novalee Nation as the main character. I actually quite like the movie, I’ve never read the book, although she isn’t the most intelligent woman in the beginning (living in a walmart, pregnant with a dirtbag boyfriend etc etc), I think she grows into a wonderful woman over the course of the movie with the hand she is dealt. I quite like Novalie/Novalie personally.
I have met a little girl named Novalie she was incredibly intelligent and very pretty. I think it’s a beautiful name with a lovely nn [name]Nova[/name]. I would spell it Novalee
I think it is very pretty! [name]Nova[/name] is darling as well I think of Where the Heart is, but I do not get a negative vibe at all. I think it sneaks under the radar as unpopular but not too out there!
I found Novalie in this Blog post: Swedish Baby Names: What’s stylish in Stockholm? | Nameberry
I haven’t seen that movie in so long but I remember it now. I thought that was one of the saddest movies! That poor girl couldn’t catch a break.
I really like [name]Coralie[/name] & [name]Rosalie[/name]… & [name]Eulalie[/name] & [name]Amelie[/name], too! I think Novalie fits in with those really well but I’m eager to hear more opinions on it before I add it to my list.
I love the book and movie Where the Heart Is, so I have a very positive image of the name although the character’s name was spelled Novalee. I remember when reading the book how awestruck I was with the names. Novalee Nation, [name]Americus[/name], Forney, [name]Moses[/name] Whitecotton?
I actually like Novalie, even though it does sound a tad trendy.
Any other opinions or thoughts out there?
I prefer [name]Nova[/name] as well. Novalie sounds more like a cutesy nickname for [name]Nova[/name].
I want to like it, probably because of the “Novel” sound and I love reading… but I can’t. I love [name]Coralie[/name], but Novalie just feels made up to me. Seems like I’m the minority though!
For me it’s something of a guilty pleasure, like [name]Siddalee[/name]. To my American ears, the Swedish pronunciation (“NOO-vah-lee”) is reminiscent of NuvaRing. But only slightly… overall it’s got a lovely, sweet sound.
