So, I have been searching and searching for the perfect name, should we have a girl and nothing is quite right. I have come to realize I love names with a ‘v’ in them ([name]Vesper[/name] - husband’s favourite but maybe too scooterish, [name]Evangeline[/name] - too heavy?, [name]Violet[/name] - too popular because where I live it’s actually #73 I believe), and its the age old ‘we want something different but awesome’ and even more particularly with definite presence.
The name [name]November[/name] has recently piqued my interest as a possible choice. I like that [name]Nova[/name], Novi and [name]Ember[/name] are possible nicknames. Our baby is supposed to be born in [name]November[/name] and it is alliterative with our last name (N___strom which you have all heard before). I actually like alliteration but maybe some of you will think it’s cheesy. Is it too much like [name]January[/name] [name]Jones[/name] and is that bad? I think having a commonly heard last name makes a fairly obscure first name more doable. I also like that no one will wonder how to spell it or say it. Potential middle names might be [name]Linnea[/name] or [name]Rose[/name].
So there it is, tell it to me like it is before I start getting too wrapped up in it! Thanks
I like [name]November[/name]. Amd alliteration.
I actually think [name]November[/name] has potential, just like other month names such as [name]May[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]August[/name], etc. I particularly like the nn Novi. I like the combination [name]November[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. Good luck!
I think [name]November[/name] [name]Rose[/name] N. is really pretty.
Looove it [name]November[/name] [name]Rose[/name] has a very pretty, elegant feel.
I like [name]November[/name] with [name]Rose[/name] or any other simple & easy to read/say mn.
I almost used [name]January[/name] for my [name]January[/name] baby…a little more familiar cause of [name]January[/name] [name]Jones[/name] & the [name]Jacqueline[/name] [name]Suzann[/name] character. …but I think [name]November[/name] is a lot better in the nn dept!
[name]November[/name] [name]Rue[/name]
[name]November[/name] [name]Faye[/name]
[name]November[/name] [name]Jean[/name]
I like [name]November[/name] [name]Rose[/name] but I don’t know if two very familiar word names creates an image for some people?
Novi is darling.
[name]November[/name] is cute for either but I prefer boy.
ETA: [name]November[/name] [name]Violet[/name] [I put it together] is making me swoon I think I have to add that.
I like [name]November[/name] (it’s my birth month, after all) and the alliteration, nd the combo of [name]November[/name] [name]Rose[/name], but it may be too literal to name a [name]November[/name] baby [name]November[/name]. It’s a little different for [name]May[/name], [name]April[/name] and [name]June[/name] because they’re names in addition to being months, whereas most people see [name]November[/name] solely as the month. Maybe that doesn’t make since but it’s how I see it.
I couldn’t see myself using it. [name]How[/name] about [name]Nova[/name], [name]Veda[/name], [name]Haven[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Savannah[/name], [name]Neve[/name], or my daughters name [name]Aviana[/name]… All have a V. Good luck in your search!
I’m actually with your husband on this one. [name]Vesper[/name] is absolutely adorable. I don’t know so much about [name]November[/name] but [name]Ember[/name] is definitely a nice alternative to [name]Amber[/name] and would go with either middle name.
[name]Vesper[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is my favorite. Though you do have to consider her life in the professional world and whether a name like [name]November[/name] or [name]Vesper[/name] is too cutesy and may hold her back. Also, [name]Linnea[/name] is gorgeous but only if one knows how to say it correctly. She may come to find the constant mispronunciation a bother.
[name]November[/name] is a GP of mine, I love the nn [name]Ember[/name], however I think naming non-name names is a bit ehhh. I’m a big fan of the name [name]April[/name],but it doesn’t really feel like a name to me because it’s a month and so commonly used.
I’ve also heard of [name]April[/name]'s finding it annoying whenever people are talking about the month because they automatically think it’s in reference to them. And the age old “Oh were you born in [name]November[/name]/[name]April[/name]/[name]June[/name]/[name]May[/name]?”
I’d a non-month/day name, personally. [name]Evangeline[/name] is definitely not to heavy, not when you’re considering [name]November[/name]!
Other V names:
[name]Vienna[/name]
[name]Vanna[/name]
[name]Beverley[/name]
[name]Haven[/name]
Levene
[name]Maeve[/name]
I really like [name]November[/name] N_strom. It sounds like a powerful CEO in a comic book series. I’m a sucker for word names and alliteration. As you mentioned, [name]November[/name] comes with some good nicknames that can be used if the full name proves to be too much. Personally I would avoid using a second word name (i.e. [name]Rose[/name]) as the middle name, particularly since the -r in [name]November[/name] runs into the R- in [name]Rose[/name]. [name]Linnea[/name] is beautiful.
[name]November[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is beautiful. I especially like nickname [name]Nova[/name].
I think [name]November[/name] is a really cool name and I love how it sounds with your last name!
[name]Love[/name] it! I would use [name]November[/name] [name]Linnea[/name] [name]Rose[/name] N_____.
I actually think [name]November[/name] is heavier than [name]Evangeline[/name]. I too love V names… [name]Eve[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Geneva[/name], [name]Ginevra[/name], [name]Vienna[/name].
(I will say [name]Rose[/name] has always bothered me as a middle name when the first name can be an adjective. [name]November[/name] [name]Rose[/name] reminds me of [name]Summer[/name] [name]Rose[/name]… a bit too much.)
Good luck!
[name]Love[/name] it. Particularly, the nn [name]Nova[/name].
I don’t think the alliteration is a problem
I am not into month/day names, but [name]November[/name] has a VERY pretty sound. Great nn’s, too. I never find alliteration an issue. Unless it were kkk or something like that.
Wow! Thanks everyone for the constructive and kind feedback! There were some really good points to ponder that I am taking away from this post: elisabeth rae - Thank you for the suggestion of [name]November[/name] [name]Linnea[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. Its a great way to break up the adjective/noun combo as taz also pointed out may be too much and I hadn’t considered it. [name]Vienna[/name] was my favourite for years but then the bachelor happened and it has been tainted…
Holey - I like your comic book association! I always find alliterative names more memorable too! Also somehow I missed the r’s running together, good call.
Taz - thank you for the suggestions of other one syllable middles, a syllable flow of 3,1,2 is very appealing.
I do agree with east93 about the likely distraction of having a month name… I have 3 and a half months left (hopefully) to ponder this and see how much of an issue this could potentially be.
erinlw - I actually looked up one of the last posts about [name]November[/name] and interestingly enough the consensus in that post was it is best to be born in that month if it is less commonly used as a name. I think they basically implied that you are going to be asked for some sort of meaning behind it and it is simpler to say “yes, that’s my birth month”. I had wondered the same thing myself.
Sabrinafair - I am so excited to see you using [name]November[/name] [name]Violet[/name] in your signature now after initially thinking it may be better suited for a boy!
fiskkirs - I have suggested [name]Haven[/name] in the past and received a ‘meh’ response, [name]Nova[/name] is only 2 syllables with our 2 syllable last name (but obviously I like it), [name]Genevieve[/name] is my niece’s name and the others are attractive but not quite right.
okbrielle - I honestly love the meaning behind [name]Vesper[/name], it’s beautiful, but I think my husband isn’t helping my apprehension about the scooter connection when he jokes about calling her Scooter/Scoots for a nickname (knowing him, this is totally plausible). Speaking of which, is there much nn possibility for [name]Vesper[/name]? Not a big fan of Vess.
And everyone else, thank you so much for your feedback, I am rather surprised (and delighted ) that [name]November[/name] actually did get this much positive feedback! Certainly one for us to think about for the next few months.
