I had my 12 week scan today, And the sonographer said she was 75% sure it was a boy going off nub theory. Has anyone been told the sex at 12 weeks, and was it correct or incorrect ?
I was SOOO sure this baby was a girl, that I’m a bit taken aback by the thought that it’s likely to be a boy!
I wasn’t told at the ultrasound, but I posted a picture on a nub theory forum and people had a guess. A lot of them said “boy” because of a white line that showed up above the nub. Others said that line wasn’t part of the nub, and based on that they thought girl. Obviously, she was a girl. I love nub theory as something fun to look at before baby is born but it definitely isn’t 100%!
Thankyou @northernlights !
I’m no expert, but I did a bit of Googling and tried this myself with my 12-week scan pictures and friends’ too, and I was wrong 100% of the time! Obviously, your sonographer is much more experienced but I do think it’s very much an educated guess until around 16 weeks. Fun to try though!
Thanks @katinka
Anyone else?
I work in radiology and know the sonographers very well. None of them are comfortable even guessing the sex until 14 weeks but they prefer to wait until 16 weeks. None of them believe in the nub theory.
My sonographer guessed boy at 12w5d, because the nub was pointing up. But he did warn me it was too early to know for sure.
Well he was right! At 20w we confirmed it’s a boy.
