Nyx or Onyx

Pick your favorite on a boy, Nyx or Onyx and name a reasoning why! I love both of these names but possibly I can be swayed in a specific direction!

  • Onyx
  • Nyx
  • I can’t just choose one!

Not really a fan of either so Incouldnt really vote but with nyx I see it as a fancy misspelling of the word nix. Nix doesn’t have the most positive definition to it. Though nms Onyx on the other hand could possibly fit in with the Jasper, Ruby, Pearl, Emerald crowd…. So I’m not sure if that helps sway you

[name_u]Nyx[/name_u] is very feminine to me (due to the goddess connection), but do I love [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] for a boy! We have it on our list of middle names. It’s so spunky and cool, and the stone has such positive meaning.

I adore this name too! I can’t decide if I prefer it as a masculine or feminine name

I love both names, but [name_u]Nyx[/name_u] is female for me. It’s the name of a goddess, so it doesn’t seem suitable for gender bending.

I prefer both for girls but I guess [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] would be okay for a boy.

I only really like [name_u]Nyx[/name_u] for a girl due to the goddess connection. [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] on the other hand I think is truly gender neutral and a fantastic choice.

I think [name_u]Nyx[/name_u] works on a boy too! I actually love that people are more willing to gender-bend the other way right now. More girls than boys are called [name_u]Jupiter[/name_u] in the US at the moment, and I think [name_u]Nyx[/name_u] on a boy totally fits in terms of sound and vibe. It reminds me of [name_u]Nick[/name_u], [name_u]Nico[/name_u] and [name_m]Knox[/name_m], and I like the association with [name_u]Stevie[/name_u] Nicks.

[name_u]Onyx[/name_u] is cool too but it does feel a little trendy right now.

thank you so much! I am a fan of the neutral names as well  Additionally, I love the association with Stevie!! Makes me love Nyx even more :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_u]Nyx[/name_u] is a goddess, so I’d go with [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] to be more masculine! Best of luck!

I like [name_u]Nyx[/name_u] a lot but it’s pretty solidly feminine to me. [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] is lovely too - personally of the two, I’d lean that direction.
