Obnoxious Names?

Which names do you think of as obnoxious?
Not just trendy or made-up but names that you view as bad because of their obvious meaning or usage?
For me that would be title names such as [name_m]Prince[/name_m] or names that are titles/ranks which you usually have to “earn” such as [name_m]Bishop[/name_m] or Chief.

I think of [name_m]Prince[/name_m] as simply being a one person name like [name_m]Elvis[/name_m] or [name_f]Madonna[/name_f].

I think the [name_m]Wrecker[/name_m]/Drekker/[name_m]Craven[/name_m]/[name_m]Ryder[/name_m]/[name_m]Draven[/name_m] kinds of names, oh and [name_u]Pistol[/name_u] and [name_m]Ranger[/name_m] etc. are all obnoxious.

[name_f]Princess[/name_f] and God’iss.

Names with apostrophes for heaven’s sake. We live in a culture that no longer knows where the apostrophe goes so some people just put one in any old place.

Cocktail names, hard liquor names like Vodka etc.

Names of people like Stalin, Hitler, [name_m]Adolph[/name_m].

And names like [name_m]Caliban[/name_m] or [name_f]Medea[/name_f] which show that the namer knows nothing of the history or tragedy of the name.

Extremely violent names like the ones lesliemarion mentioned, including [name_m]Shooter[/name_m], [name_m]Danger[/name_m], [name_u]Rebel[/name_u]
Using a random word from a different language without checking its actual usability as a name
Names that obviously reflect the parents interests without considering if the child.
(What if little [name_u]Poet[/name_u] hates poetry?)
Names that sound too much like surname: g [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_u]Collins[/name_u], [name_m]Brown[/name_m], [name_u]Green[/name_u], [name_m]Jones[/name_m]

[name_m]Fish[/name_m] names. I do NOT want to meet a little [name_u]Salmon[/name_u] or [name_m]Trout[/name_m].

Over the top spiritual names: I HATE it when people name their kids [name_f]Heaven[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as bad: [name_u]Messiah[/name_u], [name_f]Goddess[/name_f], [name_f]Spirit[/name_f]

I agree with everything pp said!

I was reading birth announcements on NB and saw cre8tiv spellings that served no phonetic purpose, obfuscated the real pronunciation, and were used instead of well-established standard spellings, stuff like Amhelia. So I find that to be obnoxious.

Misspelled word names. Kaydenz, Brookelynne, and Rebelle are misspelled words. Not names.

Basically the top 10s. If I never had to hear most of those names again, I would be fine with that.

“Changing the spelling makes the name less popular”. No, it really doesn’t. It just gets annoying when NO ONE can spell your name right or remember that spelling afterwards (not even your best friend. And it’s only a one letter difference!) This one might come from experience…

Try-hard names. I also call these “dad’s picks”. Names like [name_m]Ace[/name_m], Stryker, [name_m]Romeo[/name_m], [name_m]Jagger[/name_m], etc.

i hate what i call “stripper names”: diamond, princess, luxury
“old lady” names like mabel, agnes, beatrice, etc
and top 100 names (jessica, sarah, madison, justin, michael, etc)

  • [name_m]Miles[/name_m], for some reason, just gets on my nerves.
  • I don’t see the appeal of names like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], or other commonly adored boy’s names on nameberry.
  • Naming your kid [name_u]Rebel[/name_u], [name_m]Ryder[/name_m], [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]… it’s just trying too hard. Also would be strange on a naturally meek child.
  • Girls’ names like [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f], [name_f]Georgianna[/name_f], [name_f]Christiana[/name_f], stuff that already has nicer, simpler versions ([name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Christina[/name_f]). They just give a really fussy vibe to me.
  • Spelling names in excessively complicated or contrived ways, like [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] ->[name_f]Kyleigh[/name_f]

I agree with most of the other things that the previous posters said! I hate misspellings, I hate weird pronunciations, and I hate it when people stick their kid with a name what nobody can say/spell. I always feel so bad for the kids (I know a girl named K3’@ndr3@ and nobody spells or pronounces her name right.)

I agree with a lot of these, but how exactly are the top 100 names “obnoxious”?? I mean, I get it, you don’t like super popular names, but what about the top 100 are obnoxious?

Misspelled names and names with random punctuation in them annoy me.
Names that sound like the parents were trying too hard - [name_m]Talon[/name_m], [name_f]Princess[/name_f], [name_m]Danger[/name_m], …

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

Boy names on girls are my biggest pet peeve, specifically those ending in -son. They just don’t make sense! Your daughter is not a son.

Names like [name_m]Gunner[/name_m], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], etc. I also find the names [name_f]Valeria[/name_f], [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], and [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] obnoxious, although I don’t know why, I just don’t like their sound.

What I call obnoxious names are:

For Boys:
[name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]
[name_m]Gatsby[/name_m]
[name_u]Jayden[/name_u]
[name_m]Ryder[/name_m]
[name_u]Conner[/name_u]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_u]Aiden[/name_u]
[name_m]Daly[/name_m]

For Girls:
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_f]Alba[/name_f]
[name_u]Josie[/name_u]
[name_u]Jodie[/name_u]
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_u]Kelsie[/name_u]

I second that.

I know someone whose given name was [name_f]Princess[/name_f]. She had her name legally changed the day she was of age!
