Odelia...help

What do people think of the name odelia, meaning I will praise G-D, pronunciation, o-dell-ya or o-dell-i-ah?

Is it a mouthful? too out there? I think we would call her lia…

I think it’s a beautiful name and not too much of a mouthful at all!

I think you should use the second pronunciation, especially with the nn [name_f]Lia[/name_f] in mind (which I love!).

It may be incorrect, but I pronounce it as oh-deal-ee-uh, which I really like too.

I’ve always pronounced [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] as oh-dee-lee-uh (not sure if I did that correctly, but you know what I mean). There would probably be some pronunciation issues, but nothing too bad. I like both pronunciations and love [name_f]Lia[/name_f] as a nickname.

Oh-[name_f]DEE[/name_f]-lia. Can also spell [name_f]Odilia[/name_f]. Great name.

I would pronounce it oh-dee-lia too, rhyming with [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]. I think it’s a great name, very pretty and nn [name_f]Lia[/name_f] is cute too.

I say O-dell-ya. Beautiful name!

I would say oh-[name_f]DEE[/name_f]-lee-a. It is a very pretty name

I also thought it was pronounced O-dee-lee-uh. I do not think it is too much of a mouthful.

Thanks everyone!

[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] is beautiful, I say “o-[name_f]DEE[/name_f]-lee-uh”. However, according to behindthename.com, [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] is a variation of [name_f]Odilia[/name_f] whose meaning is not related to religion.
“Derived from the Germanic element odal meaning “fatherland” or aud meaning “wealth, fortune”. [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_f]Odilia[/name_f] (or [name_f]Odila[/name_f]) was an 8th-century nun who is considered the patron saint of Alsace. She was apparently born blind but gained sight when she was baptized.”

Thanks we would be going with the hebrew meaning. Its a compound noun from two words “o-deh” meaning literally thank/praise and “li-ya” meaning literally my G-d… but nice to know she was also a saint!

If you’re going with Hebrew, it is pronounce oh-DEE-lee-uh and a beautiful common name on [name_u]Israel[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] Israeli friend and cousin both have this name and I just love it.

It’s not my favorite, it seems a little long and maybe better as a middle name. I would pronounce it as oh-dee-lee-uh because of the one L. If there were two LLs, I’d pronounce it as oh-dell-lee-uh.
