Came to my mind when I replied to corabrynn08, [name_f]Cora[/name_f] also was one.
I have a pretty bad memory when it comes to trends but I remember when [name_u]Wilder[/name_u], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_u]Echo[/name_u], and [name_u]Cove[/name_u] were more popular.
Now I see [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] a lot.
[name_u]Echo[/name_u] yes
It was the cool girl of the school
Yes! [name_f]My[/name_f] combo was [name_u]Echo[/name_u] [name_f]Astoria[/name_f]. That’s another one! [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] and maybe [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] too.
Oh and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] used to be quite popular too!
Yes to lots of these!
You are correct
I am still firmly in this craze
[name_u]Wilder[/name_u] and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] as his-n-hers middles. Then they briefly gender-switched!
And there was an extended period where elaborate or compound word name middles were huge. Things like [name_f]Wildflower[/name_f], Waterlily, [name_u]Firefly[/name_u], [name_u]Moonglade[/name_u], [name_u]Alpenglow[/name_u], Evenstar…
Looking at my user card, I feel a little behind the times.
I’ve been lurking for a while, and others have listed a lot of what I remember, but I also remember [name_f]Plum[/name_f] being a thing at one point.
I also think people have gotten kinder about more common/mainstream names. Like maybe they still don’t like [name_f]Neveah[/name_f], but they wouldn’t call it outright terrible anymore (and that’s if they were being kind back then).
I remember [name_f]Corisande[/name_f] coming up a lot, at one point. I thought that was a bit odd, because I wasn’t sure how to pronounce it.
And there were the fairy tale-esque names made popular by a former member e.g. [name_f]Illyria[/name_f], [name_f]Amoret[/name_f], [name_f]Belphoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Tinuviel[/name_f].
Me too! I love pretty much all of the [name_u]Berry[/name_u] names
Yes, they can get a bit repetitive when you spend a lot of time here but they’re generally still perfect sweet spot names in real life. [name_u]Or[/name_u] sometimes even completely undiscovered!
And I do think there is more diversity of styles here than people generally give credit for. It’s easy to only see [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] if they happen to be having a bit of a “moment”, but I see plenty of other names too — from modern to ancient to international.
I’m noticing more interest in Polish names at the moment, for example — which I’m enjoying of course
That was a truly beautiful time for baby namers! I remember being in awe of some of the names people came up with.
When I first joined NB, I had barely heard of any names outside the top 100 so I would just stick whichever names I saw around in my signature. I definitely took part in the literary trend (I desperately wanted twin girls so I could name them [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_u]Fable[/name_u] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_u]Story[/name_u]!) and I remember [name_u]Archer[/name_u] and [name_u]Arrow[/name_u] having a bit of a moment too.
I constantly see [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] still.
Aww love [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]! ^.^
I love how the trends change.
I still love [name_u]Story[/name_u], [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f] and [name_u]Fable[/name_u]
I feel like [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is still around but it became so popular that people stopped liking it as much.
I also feel that [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] are still around but people prefer [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
I currently see [name_u]Winter[/name_u] in like every list! And I love [name_u]Snow[/name_u] but don’t see it many places.
I remember the [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] faze!
I remember [name_f]Calla[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] were everywhere for a while. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] was a big one. [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Oceane[/name_f]
I was thinking Calla [name_u]Firefly[/name_u] so stunning
I first joined in 2010 under other usernames, and became more active in 2015 under my previous username.
In addition to so many of those named, I remember lots more love for:
Elodie
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] (that trend tanked abruptly…)
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f]
[name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Portia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
I don’t know that I can think of a single boy name trend that hasn’t already been mentioned here or isn’t still wildly popular on Nameberry… and if that isn’t an indication of boy name trends lasting longer and remaining more stable than girl name trends, I don’t know what is.
Been here since 2016! [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] was definitely the biggest trend I can remember lol.
Other names that definitely had a moment:
[name_f]Alba[/name_f]

[name_u]Axel[/name_u]
[name_m]Ansel[/name_m] (remember that craze?)
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m]

[name_u]Beau[/name_u]
[name_m]Corentin[/name_m]
[name_m]Cassian[/name_m]

[name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]

[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_m]Soren[/name_m] !!!
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]
Edit: Oh, and Amelie and Ottoline
I love [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]!
@thomasina, I don’t think she’s around as much now (maybe I’m wrong), but she has [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] Waterlily, [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] [name_u]Hummingbird[/name_u], [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Wildrose[/name_f], and [name_f]Sabina[/name_f] Mayflower which might be the most beautiful sibset I have ever seen
yesss
also yesss
I was sure that [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] would be the new biblical name craze from how often I saw it on here but it seems to have died down
I joined in 2008 or 2009 (I’ve come and gone and had a few different profiles through the years) and the biggest change I’ve noticed is people being more open minded to what is currently trendy and popular, when I first joined if you said you liked a name like [name_u]Everly[/name_u] you’d immediately be shot down for being ‘trendy’ and pushed toward a more classic or quirky choice. Where as the last couple years I feel people are being more accepting towards those type of names, even if they aren’t necessarily the typical ‘nameberry style’
I’ve been on nameberry for about 5 or 6 years… I think… but for the longest time I didn’t have my own account. I was too shy to get on the forums so I just read through lists and wrote down my favorites by hand. Back then there was that list that scrolled along the top of the page, and I used to check it daily (miss that so much). I don’t really remember what names were big back then but I remember seeing [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] a lot.
Ugh. I had forgotten about that. I used to find so many great names using that scrolling list. I miss it.
