Olivia, Livia, or Liv?

My hubby and I love the name [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and plan on calling our little girl that if we choose one of these names. But I’m trying to decide if we should do a full name of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Livia[/name_f] or just name her [name_f]Liv[/name_f] by itself. Which one of these do you prefer?

I am not sure myself (sorry for being absolutely no help). I like the sound of [name_f]Livia[/name_f] the most, but apparently all three names have different roots and I like the meaning of [name_f]Livia[/name_f] the least. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is pretty but obviously the most popular as well. And [name_f]Liv[/name_f]… oh [name_f]Liv[/name_f], it a simple beauty and it means Life. But it’s also so short with no other nickname possibility.

So maybe it depends on what are you looking for in a name? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you care about meaning or nickname possibilities as well? Have you chosen a middle name(s)? If yes, which flows better?

I like [name_f]Livia[/name_f] a lot! With the nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. I guess I worry that people will assume her name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] when she says [name_f]Livia[/name_f] or think it’s made up or incomplete. But maybe not and maybe that doesn’t matter? Our middle name ideas our [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. [name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] sounds beautiful to me.

Like the person above said, [name_f]Livia[/name_f] feels incomplete to me. Because of that, I would go with either [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. Another option is [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]. I might be a bit of a stretch but I think it could work, and it’s a lot less popular than [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], if that matters to you.

I say name her [name_f]Livinia[/name_f] and call it a day.

[name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f] sound divine. If this is what you love the most, go ahead and name her [name_f]Livia[/name_f]. It’s really lovely.

I choose [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as it’s beautiful, fresh, and non-fussy (and you’ll be calling her that all the time anyways). I would choose the MN of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a wonderful combo.

Most people don’t realize [name_f]Livia[/name_f] and [name_f]Liv[/name_f] are there own separate names anyways, which sucks, but I guess you’ll have to decide how much it would bother you if people assumed she was [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

I either like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f], or just [name_f]Liv[/name_f] by itself. I’m leaning towards [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f], but I truly love both names so you can’t go wrong.

Thanks for your responses! I’m still not sure which to choose but I still have 5 months left to decide! I just know I love the name [name_f]Liv[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] best. It feels complete and has a better meaning than [name_f]Livia[/name_f]. I think most people would assume her name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] if it was [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or [name_f]Livia[/name_f], so I’d go with that. Good luck and congratulations!

I like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] as a formal name and [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as a nickname. Good luck with your decision and the remainder of your pregnancy.

I would 100% go with [name_f]Liv[/name_f]! That is actually our favorite name and I had the same concerns… if anything, I wanted to go with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and the nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. But my husband assures me that [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is a fine name, with a beautiful meaning. It’s short, sweet, and stunning. I say, go for it!!

I prefer [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]/[name_f]Olive[/name_f] as a full name for [name_f]Liv[/name_f] but [name_f]Liv[/name_f] stands well on its own!

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] could stand on its own but personally I would go for either [name_f]Olive[/name_f] or [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f](kind of a stretch but its alright)

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. [name_f]Livia[/name_f] sounds a little incomplete to me.

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] is a perfect name to use instead of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] which will get you [name_f]Liv[/name_f].

I named my daughter [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]. I had considered naming her [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and just calling her [name_f]Liv[/name_f] but [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is just too popular. I decided to name her just [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. Most people do assume her name is short for something and I often have to explain that it is just [name_f]Liv[/name_f] so be prepared for that but I do not regret naming her [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. Also, I had a few relatives constantly spelling her name “Live” because of how it’s pronounced here instead of its European pronunciation.

I don’t know if anyone has said this yet, but I actually really like [name_f]Olive[/name_f] called [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. But if that’s too foody for ya, here are some others others may not have mentioned yet:

[name_f]Olivet[/name_f]/[name_f]Olivette[/name_f]
[name_f]Oliviane[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivine[/name_f]

I personally think [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is overused, and would suggest almost anything to that.

My favorite is just [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. It’s Scandi, streamlined, and sweet – three ingredients for a winning choice! I also believe “life” is preferable to “olive tree” as far as meanings go.

I really think I prefer just [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. However my husband really wants her middle name to be [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and I’m not sure [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] flows well. I was thinking [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] or something longer sounds better but [name_f]Grace[/name_f] has meaning to us. We could do [name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], but I don’t like the meaning of [name_f]Livia[/name_f] and I still prefer the short, sweet sophistication of [name_f]Liv[/name_f].
