Im asking you to look at the two names and tell me if [name]Silvia[/name] is at all like [name]Olivia[/name]? [name]Do[/name] they sound anything like one another? The reason I ask is because I look at the letters in each one and they share all but 1 letter. I believe that [name]Olivia[/name] is Greek and [name]Silvia[/name] is latin (correct me if Im wrong). [name]Do[/name] they have the same feel? [name]Do[/name] they sound similiar or is the S and O beginnings enough of a difference? This is one of those things where, the close similiarities in letters is throwing me off…perhaps they really are nothing alike? I dont like the name [name]Silvia[/name] and if [name]Olivia[/name] is anything remotely similiar then its out for me. Please give me your honest thoughts.
[name]Hi[/name], [name]Plato[/name]!
The “[name]Liv[/name]” is really what stands out to me in [name]Olivia[/name]. [name]Olivia[/name] is classic and feminine and elegant, yet she’s also very spunky, energetic, and sassy. [name]Olivia[/name] is a fun, playful name for a girl to have, and nicknames like [name]Liv[/name] and [name]Livvy[/name] make it all the more appealing to me - [name]Liv[/name] is elegant and refined, whereas [name]Livvy[/name] is youthful and vibrant. There’s a reason [name]Olivia[/name] keeps making it to the top of the naming charts. It’s a great, versatile name!
[name]Silvia[/name] looks similar to [name]Olivia[/name], yes, but it has a much more refined, adult flavor to it, in my opinion. Now, there’s no reason why a little girl can’t pull off [name]Silvia[/name] - and its cute nickname, [name]Silvie[/name] - with finesse, but it does have an older, slightly less energetic feel than the similarly-spelled [name]Olivia[/name]. I actually think [name]Sylvia[/name] - I prefer this spelling - is a fine name, and I know a couple of young ones, but in a match with [name]Olivia[/name], I’ll pick perky [name]Liv[/name]! I do, however, think [name]Sylvie[/name] - just [name]Sylvie[/name] - is a really vibrant, energetic, and fun name for a girl of any age.
Best of luck to you!

Bumping to get more opinions on this question . Thanks in advance.
I usually see [name]Silvia[/name] spelled as [name]Sylvia[/name], so no, I didn’t automatically think of [name]Olivia[/name] when I see [name]Sylvia[/name]. Plus they have different number of syllables. I would also think the emphasis is on the 2nd syllable in [name]Olivia[/name] ("[name]Liv[/name]"), but the first in [name]Sylvia[/name] (“Syl”). So to me they aren’t that similar at all.
Technically yes, they look alike, but I consider them very different in style.
Although they look similar on paper, I think [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Sylvia[/name] are different in style. I agree with the others that [name]Olivia[/name] has the emphasis on the [name]LIV[/name] part of the name where [name]Silvia[/name] has emphasis on the [name]SIL[/name] part of the name. Also, since they have a different number of syllables, they sound very different when spoken.
