Olympe

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to see what everyone’s thoughts were on this. I think it’s pronounced O-lahmp (though happy to be corrected by a [name_u]French[/name_u] speaker).

[name_f]Olympe[/name_f] is interesting, but it’s one of those that I think I prefer in the middle spot

Same. I really like the soft sounds though

I like it somehow. Elegant and underused even in [name_u]France[/name_u], lol. I prefer [name_f]Olimpia[/name_f] and [name_f]Olympia[/name_f].

Me too! Unusual sounds for a given name, but I think it has a soft & quiet beauty, it’s so gentle. [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] reminds me of the similar qualities in [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] (similar sounds I guess).

I think it’s an intriguing name with a cool history. [name_f]Olympe[/name_f] de Gouges comes to mind.

It probably works fine if you’re [name_u]French[/name_u] (though I haven’t checked the statistics so I have no idea of its ranking). But, in an English-speaking context, I would be hesitant to recommend it, because it’s likely to be mispronounced in unflattering ways - “oh limp”.

As an American [name_f]English[/name_f] speaker, my default pronunciation would be “oh-LIMP” (since we pronounce [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] as “oh-LIMP-ee-uh”), which isn’t nearly as sweet as the [name_u]French[/name_u] pronunciation you mentioned. With my pronunciation, I would definitely be hesitant to use it. :two_hearts:

It’s beautiful but it doesn’t really work outside of a [name_u]French[/name_u] speaking region, IMO. Oh-limp is much less appealing.

I agree. I think middle only is the way to go

Agreed, much less pretty in the [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking world.

I just think of [name_f]Olympe[/name_f] [name_u]Maxime[/name_u] from [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]

Agreed, but I love her
