I just had to post this because I’m kind of in shock. The unthinkable has happened: He just said yes to [name_u]River[/name_u]!!!

You all know my undying love for word names, and many of you know that my Husband insists that names be practical enough to work on a real baby, so all of my word names are vetoed or approved as middles only. We’re both die-hard Firefly fans and I’ve brought up [name_u]River[/name_u] before, partially because I love word names and partially because [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Tam[/name_m] is such a classic example of [name_u]Joss[/name_u] Whedon’s quirky badass female characters, a namesake I think any girl would be proud to share. He’s vetoed her every time.

Well, recently we’ve been watching [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who, and we just finished the episode where [name_u]River[/name_u] Song’s true identity is revealed. I’ve adored [name_u]River[/name_u] Song’s character since she first appeared, and this episode had me so excited with all the play on words involved between her two names with the whole “the only water in the forest is the [name_u]River[/name_u]” thing, that I turned to Husbie and said, “What about [name_u]River[/name_u], baby, as a name?” And he gave me this HUGE grin and winked and said, “I could be persuaded. I could definitely be persuaded.”

OMG!!!

Of course this means I’m going to have to do some major reorganizing of my girls’ list, but I’ll get to that later. Right now I just want to break out my happy dance. Squee!

Yay! I wish my last name didn’t sound like “Noise”. [name_u]River[/name_u] Noise isn’t a good combo lol. [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Tam[/name_m].

[name_u]River[/name_u] is a nice name. I’m considering it for my girl list as well!

I had thought of [name_u]River[/name_u] as a boy’s name, but it works well for a girl. I go weak at the knees for most nature names, and this is one of the best.

Yay! [name_u]River[/name_u] is such a pretty name, and [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Tam[/name_m] and [name_u]River[/name_u] Song are such awesome kickass females. I recently got the boyfriend to add [name_f]Thora[/name_f] to the list which made me VERY happy. It’s one of those names I sneak into conversations from time to time, hoping he’ll see how perfect it is, and he finally came around, so I share your joy and excitement.

Hooray!! [name_u]River[/name_u] is an awesome name, and ties in perfectly with the nature middles in your other girls’ combos.
… So does that mean there is a possibility that little [name_u]River[/name_u] will be nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f]?? Please say yes. :smiley:

Ahh I love this name for a girl and for the same reasons as you. Whenever i see it mentioned i want to jump in with FIREFLY! because just loved it so :wink: my boyfriend has some out there style (honestly if I was actually pregnant he’d probably fall back to earth with his suggestions lol!!) and [name_u]River[/name_u] has always been one he’s been okay with. (probably also because he loves that show and all things joss!)

Yes!!! Between [name_m]Tam[/name_m] and Song, you can’t get any more badass sci-fi heroine than [name_u]River[/name_u].

[name_u]River[/name_u] is a cool name. I love the nature imagery. While I’ve never watched Firefly, I’m sure if she’s one of [name_u]Joss[/name_u]'s ladies she’s awesome. And I do love [name_u]River[/name_u] Song. :wink:

For what it’s worth, one of my parents’ friends has a fifteen-year-old daughter named [name_u]River[/name_u]. He named her [name_u]River[/name_u] because he’s very outdoorsy and loved the nature connection; she turned out to be very preppy and not outdoorsy, but she still wears the name really well.

Ooooh. Jealousness on the east coast. If only [name_u]River[/name_u] didn’t sound like crap in Spanish! I agree with others, [name_u]River[/name_u], nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is beyond adorable and perfect and again, I’m jealous! Can your husband talk to mine about being agreeable to baby names? Lol.

Between [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Tam[/name_m] and [name_u]River[/name_u] Song, you could not have come up with more badass, strong, intelligent, adventurous namesakes if you had tried. I think your baby is going to be amazing.

Lol, am I the only person who found [name_u]River[/name_u] Song utterly annoying? I liked her in the first episode (sort of) but that’s where she should have stayed. In the library.

It’s probably because her plot line - for me - is synonymous with [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who’s current nose dive into terribly bad plotting and writing. :confused: [name_f]Hope[/name_f] Moffat pulls it back up with the new doctor.

I know of a [name_u]River[/name_u], he was the nephew of one of my teachers. I don’t like it as a name myself but I’m glad you and your husband agree on it, Sesh :slight_smile:

Thank you all so much for sharing my excitement! I felt a little silly getting so excited about a name when we’re still WTC, but then my Berries geeked out with me and now it’s all better :slight_smile:

amydomsmom - I hadn’t thought that far ahead to be honest. I do need to figure out whether I’m going to combine the two loves or keep them separate. Can one have a [name_u]River[/name_u] and an [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as sisters? If I use [name_u]River[/name_u] as my way to [name_f]Evie[/name_f], can I live with the brain-bender that is [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Tam[/name_m], [name_u]River[/name_u] Song, [name_f]Evie[/name_f] O’[name_m]Connell[/name_m] AND [name_f]Evey[/name_f] [name_m]Hammond[/name_m] all in one name?? @_@ [name_f]Gracious[/name_f].

cosmonaut - I have no idea what my combo is going to be, but I can’t wait to start looking for one! I do think [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_f]Melody[/name_f] is a bit much, I usually don’t combine two word names in the same combo.

oh otter - [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] is magnificent! And it’s never pathetic for you to be excited, especially since it makes me feel better about my own squee moments, hee hee. Magical Name Nerd Solidarity!

dindlee - Haha I’m not sure that would help you out much. He’s normally very strict in his naming rules, so I was shocked that he agreed to [name_u]River[/name_u]!

meganleda - Yes! Best [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Tam[/name_m] line ever :wink: No [name_m]Simon[/name_m] for me though, I always thought that was an odd sibset.

renrose - I love [name_u]River[/name_u] Song. She’s not a companion per se but out of all the companions and companion-like people, she’s probably my favorite. [name_f]Donna[/name_f], for example, drove me bonkers. I just finished series 6, and I did find the storyline to be rather confusing, so I can somewhat understand from that angle. I preferred Doctors 9 and 10 over 11, but I still find the show enjoyable and crazy emotional at times. I’m glad Hubs and I agree too!! It’s so rare; in all the years we’ve been together, we’ve only found 5 or 6 names that we love equally. So this is quite the treat!

Thanks again for the well-wishes everyone! Now I have to reorganize my list and figure out whether I want a [name_u]River[/name_u] AND an [name_f]Evie[/name_f], or if I want to combine them…and then it’s combo time!
