On the fence about Calvin...

The title really says it all. While discussing baby names last night, my husband brought up the name [name]Calvin[/name]. It was his first name my husband mentioned thy didn’t immediately make me say," no way!". To be honest, I’m not sure how to feel about the name.

So I would just like to hear any thoughts you have about the nme, [name]Calvin[/name]. And any associations you may have with it. Also, our DS is named [name]Evan[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you thinking he two names sound okay together?

I really like [name]Calvin[/name]! It’s unusual but familiar and nickname [name]Cal[/name] makes me think of [name]California[/name] and of baseball player [name]Cal[/name] Ripkin, [name]Jr[/name]., both very positive associations for me. I do think that [name]Evan[/name] and [name]Calvin[/name] will be difficult to say together–it’s a bit of a tongue twister. That’s the only downside I see.

Thanks katybug. I think I could warm up to the name. I just need a few nameberries to help push me along  I understand exactly what you are saying about the tongue twisting with [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Evan[/name]. The “in” and “an” endings aren’t similar enough to be matchy per say ([name]IMO[/name]) but are close enough to be slightly awakward together…but should this be enough to defer me from an otherwise good name choice?

I like it! I immediately think of [name]Calvin[/name] & [name]Hobbes[/name], and he was a cute, clever, little trouble maker.

[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Calvin[/name]! It also makes me think of [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Hobbes[/name], a fun namesake. I think [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Evan[/name] may be a mouthful
together, but [name]Cal[/name] and [name]Evan[/name] sound pretty great!

I love love [name]Cal[/name]! But I always think of [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Hobbes[/name], or the [name]John[/name] [name]Calvin[/name] and the Calvinists. And it is awfully similar to [name]Evan[/name]. What about [name]Callum[/name]?

I’ve loved the name since I was a little kid, and have thought about using it, too. I hate Calvinism and the fact that it means bald! But those are my only hesitations.

love it! it’s so cute!

I love it too. I agree that [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Evan[/name] is a mouthful… but [name]Cal[/name] and [name]Evan[/name] is great. I would also vouch for [name]Callum[/name] as an alternative…

It reminds me of [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Hobbs[/name] which is, in my opinion, a fantastic thing to be reminded of. I don’t think [name]Calvin[/name] and [name]Evan[/name] are too much together either. They look like totally different names, and the only similar sounds are the endings, although, maybe that depends on your accent (The Calv and Ev sounds are very different to me).

Thanks everyone! You guys are really helping me start to get excited about the name:) I know it may not be the best paired with [name]Evan[/name], but I am willino overlook it because ( as of now at least) this is the only boy name that my husband and I agree on!
