We just found out that we are expecting our second child. I am still clueless about what I would choose for a boy, but I have a girls name in mind. I’m having a hard time deciding whether I absolutely want to use this name, I’ve become suddenly obsessed with it recently.
Our first son’s name is [name_m]Ryder[/name_m]. It is a strong, distinct boy’s name and I want something pretty and feminine for a girl to go with it. I love the name [name_f]Ariella[/name_f], but I was thinking of changing the spelling a bit to Aeriella and I absolutely love the nickname Aerie ( pronounced air-ee ).
What do all of you think about it? The main thing that is holding me back is the clothing store Aerie, the spin off of Aeropostale. I’m not sure I want my baby to always be associated with it but I just love the name and the nickname. It is light and pretty and I think very fitting for a little girl.

What about keeping the spelling [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] and using Aerie as a nickname. Most of the time you write out the full name anyways.

I originally read that as [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] can work with names being so creative like they are today. It reminds me of Gabreiella which I think is nice. [name_u]Ari[/name_u] & aeri give me two different sounds when reading one ar like arg & aer likw air.
I say them differently in my head, I think of the Ar of [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] like the word are, while the [name_f]Aer[/name_f] of Aeriella like the word air. [name_m]Both[/name_m] pronunciations of [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] seem legitimate, but Aeriella does look made up. If you really want the air pronunciation, I would go with [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] is less closely associated with the mermaid than Aerie is with the brand.
Aerie is definitely cute and I can see the appeal, but it’s a really popular brand in the US and I see it as being unique to the store, and therefore irreversibly tied to it. I guess it depends on whether or not you’re ok with people saying “oh, like the underwear store” when you introduce your daughter.
You could also use [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] (with the are pron.), nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. I actually much prefer that to Aerie. Hm, I just thought of that, but I really like [name_u]Ari[/name_u]!

For me I prefer original spellings for in my eyes I find the name Aeriella over the top whereas [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] works she’s pretty and sounds very sweet with [name_m]Ryder[/name_m]. It’s a cute modern sibling set to be honest. You could still use the Aerie nickname which still works without the ever so crazy spelling. Stick with [name_f]Ariella[/name_f]!!
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Ariella[/name_f]. With or without Aeriella spelling you can still call her Aerie, I think. [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] nn Aerie could definitely work.
I don’t think Aeropostale/Aerie is as popular in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and the US anymore, and Aerie was never as common as Aero, so if you live there I don’t think too many people will associate it with your baby’s nickname. I do, however, prefer [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] to Aeriella and I think Aerie works just fine with both.
[name_f]Ariella[/name_f] is pretty! [name_u]Arie[/name_u] is cute, too I’ve never even heard of that store! I guess we don’t have them here. Aerialla is an odd spelling to me. The name is already very different so try to making the spelling simple. Good luck!
I think this is the best way to go. [name_u]Arie[/name_u] is said the same and looks like the proper nn for [name_f]Ariella[/name_f], which is a gorgeous name by the way. I buy underwear at Aerie, but that wouldn’t stop me from using Aerie/[name_u]Arie[/name_u] as a nn.
I understand what you mean… you don’t want people calling her “AR-ie”… I, too, [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the nickname Aerie. Here’s an idea… [name_f]One[/name_f] of my friends has a one year old whose name is Eriana. She spelled it this way because her name is [name_f]Erica[/name_f]. Eriana is pronounces Aerie-ana. Have you considered Eriella? Or using [name_f]Eri[/name_f] for another name? You won’t have the store association as much, and you still get the same sound. [name_m]Just[/name_m] an idea. Good luck!
I think [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] and [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] sound great together. [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] and Aeriella? Not so much. That E throws me off. She’d always be spelling her name for everyone. [name_u]Arie[/name_u] and [name_u]Ari[/name_u] can be pronounced however you want, it’s a nickname, no need to add an unnecessary E into her formal name. Unfortunately, with Aerie, I would undoubtedly think of American [name_u]Eagle[/name_u] underwear. Plus, American [name_u]Eagle[/name_u] is a really popular brand with kids/teens, and it might not be ideal for a young girl to have her name associated with underpants.
