Hi all. I recently had my second baby, a boy, that we named Rafferty. This has been my favourite name for such a long time and I’m so excited that I finally got to use it. The only issue is that I now feel like every other name falls short or doesn’t match Raff’s quirkiness. Our older son is Liam, which is not as quirky and fun, but I also never had the same love for it as I do Rafferty. We are thinking we might have one more baby, but I’m struggling to find any names that I like. Any suggestions for a girl that would match Liam and Rafferty?
ETA: I feel weird about repeated initials so the name I had chosen for Raff had he been a girl was Romy Grace, but I can’t bring myself to use that now.
Oh, [name_m]Liam[/name_m] & [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] are so darling together!
For a little sister, I like…
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Clare[/name_f]
Caitriona/Cait
Daisy-I don’t usually suggest this, for fear of it becoming too popular, but [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] & [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] would be too cute.
Evie…I think [name_f]Eibhlin[/name_f] is said ‘Eve-lin’, yes? If I’m right, maybe [name_f]Eibhlin[/name_f] nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Evie[/name_f] for you, but not feeling [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Eva[/name_f] with your boys.
Frances/Franny/Francie
Isla-very popular, but so so pretty & Gaelic.
Isobel-only this spelling with the nn [name_f]Izzy[/name_f]! I like Ibbi too, but [name_f]Izzy[/name_f] feels best with your crew for some reason.
Some great suggestions there! I love [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], but hubby isn’t really sold. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] was my husband’s pick but being Australian, it’s top 3 for popularity and that turns me off a bit. I also love [name_f]Evie[/name_f] but have the same issue with popularity.
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] are such great brothers! I think [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] is a brilliant suggestion. It’s short and sleek like [name_m]Liam[/name_m] with the spunk and excitement of [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m].
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] has been a favorite most of my life. Congrats!
I like [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], but… it’s still not doable to me unless you live across the pond.
Good fits for your description:
[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Darrah[/name_f]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Thandie[/name_f]
Laim, [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Suzannah[/name_f] (Zann)
[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Zara[/name_f]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Selah[/name_f]
Since we both love [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], here are some favorite girl names of mine:
[name_f]Sabina[/name_f], [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f], [name_f]Honor[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_m]Adair[/name_m], [name_f]Mirren[/name_f], [name_f]Inga[/name_f], [name_f]Cosette[/name_f], [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]England[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], Wetherly
Thanks everyone! Instead of responding individually I’ll just say that the ones that have stood out to me are [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. As a bit of a side note, my husband has been saying he wants to name a daughter [name_f]Bella[/name_f] if we have one. The problem being that that is my name and it’s super weird . I’m wondering if [name_f]Elle[/name_f] would be an okay compromise for him. I also love names like [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], but we have a rather hard to spell and pronounce [name_m]Irish[/name_m] surname so it seems rather mean to saddle them with a complicated first name as well.
How do you feel about Theodore? To me, he matches Rafferty’s quirky streak and Liam’s current popularity. I think ‘just’ Theo could work too. There’s also the variants Theoden and Theon.
I also love Jude as a brother to Liam and Rafferty
Pearl - has Liam’s brevity with a long vowel sounds & Rafferty’s retro quik.
Iona - Liam’s long vowels and Rafferty’s 3 syllables + alternative streak.
I don’t mind direct parent-child honours for other people at all, but I do empathise with your feelings, I could never give my own name to my child.
Some Bella related names which might feel different enough for you but similar enough for your husband:
Amabel (love this will Liam and Rafferty!)
Marielle (anything with an M in it feels cohesive to me with Liam, I am discovering!)
Mirabel
Abeline
Arabella
Campbell
Corabel
Mabel
Sybil
Isobel
Adrielle
Arielle
Della, Delaney
Elvie
Elliott
Estelle, Estella
Hazel (although it’s rocketed into the top 30 in Australia, I still find it quirky with that Z and with it being a retro nature name)
Joelle, Joella
Noelle, Noella,
Nel, Nella, Penelope
Shelby
Selby
Stella (similar feelings to those about Hazel)
Zelda
Love Rafferty! One of my longtime faves and I’m spruiking it on here almost weekly!
I really like Liam - it’s cheeky and winsome, like Rafferty. If you want to increase the poncy factor, you could change his name to the full name of Liam (for official docs only), William and nn Liam.
Let’s get to girls! Liam, Rafferty &
Jemima
Flora
Bridget
Violet
Paloma
Gemma
Orla
Iris
Zara

Phoebe
Harriet (too close to Rafferty?)
Tiernan
Ursula
Marianne
Juliet
Elsbeth

Martha
I love Bella - and am especially keen on Mirabel, Sabella and Arabella - bur I wonder if Bella/Belle/Elle names too popular for the under 10 generation?
Congratulations on your new baby boy, [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]! [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] is such a cool name! I love the nickname [name_m]Raff[/name_m] for it too. I think [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] or [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]Raff[/name_m] sound really cute together actually. I like it!
[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Marisol[/name_f]

[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Paige[/name_f]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
These suggestions are great. Sometimes it takes someone else suggesting them for me to see/hear them in a different light. I’m really liking [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Sorcha[/name_f], [name_f]Oona[/name_f] (or Una), [name_f]Carys[/name_f] (Cerys is okay but [name_f]Carys[/name_f] is superior to me), [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Juniper[/name_f] (this might be my actual favourite atm ) and [name_f]Billie[/name_f] (wouldn’t use because [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_f]Billie[/name_f] makes me seem a bit [name_m]William[/name_m] obsessed).
To the person who suggested [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], thanks for the boy suggestion. I would like to keep the [name_m]Irish[/name_m] thing going with another boy, and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is also my nephew so unusable for us .
