Opaline, Edie and Adelaide

My husband and I still cannot agree on a name (we’re the [name]Birdie[/name] name lovers…that one was not the hit of the party I must say :). We found it so easy to name our daughter [name]Beatrice[/name] and are now having a VERY hard time finding another classic name that goes with our last name [name]Green[/name]. I love(d) [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Imogene[/name], but alas, they sound terrible with [name]Green[/name] as a last name. Here are a few we’ve been kicking around:

[name]Opal[/name]/[name]Opaline[/name] (she’s due in [name]October[/name])
[name]Vivianne[/name] (did [name]Angelina[/name] [name]Jolie[/name] ruin it for all of us though?)

Any suggestions?

[name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Green[/name]

[name]Adelaide[/name]-- While I think this works well with your last name, it’s just not a name I get excited about.
[name]Anouk[/name]-- Doesn’t quite go with [name]Beatrice[/name], but I do like it.
[name]Edith[/name]/[name]Edie[/name]-- [name]Edie[/name] [name]Green[/name] is just too many long e’s for me.
[name]Elodie[/name]-- [name]Beatrice[/name] & [name]Elodie[/name]: gorgeous!
[name]Esme[/name]-- [name]Beatrice[/name] & [name]Esme[/name]: also gorgeous!
[name]Opal[/name]/[name]Opaline[/name] : [name]Beatrice[/name] & [name]Opal[/name] are a fantastic pair! (I prefer [name]Opal[/name] to [name]Opaline[/name].)
[name]Cornelia[/name]: All I hear is the “corn” part. :frowning:
[name]Vivianne[/name]: I don’t know if [name]Angie[/name] ruined it, but va-va-voom [name]Vivi[/name] really overpowers [name]Beatrice[/name], who feels a bit prissy in a side-by-side comparison.

Overall I really like your list. Best of luck and congrats!

Any suggestions?[/quote]

[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Green[/name]- i like this and think it’s great with [name]Beatrice[/name]. But be aware that the nickname [name]Addie[/name] is getting more and more common.
[name]Anouk[/name] [name]Green[/name]- doesn’t work with [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]/[name]Edie[/name] [name]Green[/name]- love [name]Edith[/name] with [name]Beatrice[/name]. I actually think [name]Edie[/name] [name]Green[/name] sounds super cute.
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Green[/name]- beautiful name, it doesn’t fit, to me.
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Green[/name]- don’t really like this
[name]Opal[/name]/[name]Opaline[/name] [name]Green[/name](she’s due in [name]October[/name])- love [name]Opal[/name]! I like [name]Opaline[/name] too, but prefer the classic [name]Opal[/name]. I think [name]Opal[/name] is great with [name]Beatrice[/name], too. Oh, also, [name]Opaline[/name] [name]Green[/name] sounds a little funny.
[name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Green[/name]- I like [name]Cornelia[/name] a lot. The nickname [name]Nell[/name]/[name]Nelly[/name] would be cute, too. [name]Nelly[/name] [name]Green[/name] sounds good to me.
[name]Vivianne[/name] [name]Green[/name]- I don’t think [name]Angelina[/name] ruined it, but it’s not my favorite of your choices.

My favorite might be [name]Cornelia[/name], it has a cute nickname, sounds fab with your last name, and is great with [name]Beatrice[/name]. Actually, yes, [name]Cornelia[/name] is by far my favorite, not that I think about it. Second is [name]Edith[/name]. Third is [name]Opal[/name], I really adore [name]Opal[/name] but I think [name]Cornelia[/name] and [name]Edith[/name] work better with your last name.

[name]Hi[/name] there! I’m so sorry you’re having such a difficult time naming [name]Beatrice[/name]'s sister. Nameberry to the rescue!

[name]Adelaide[/name]: Like [name]Melissa[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name] doesn’t do much for me, but that’s just me. What bothers me the most about the name, is that when people hear “[name]Addie[/name],” they’ll think her name is [name]Addison[/name].

[name]Anouk[/name]: Cool name, but it doesn’t really go with [name]Beatrice[/name].

[name]Edith[/name]: Agree with [name]Melissa[/name]…

[name]Edie[/name]: [name]Edie[/name]'s darling, but I prefer it as a nickname…

[name]Elodie[/name]: I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Elodie[/name], and think [name]Elodie[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name] are a wonderful set! (What was your other thread called? I want to see what names have been suggested already!)

[name]Esme[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Esme[/name]! [name]Esme[/name] means loved one, which I think is lovely. So sweet and elegant at the same time.

[name]Opal[/name]/[name]Opaline[/name] (she’s due in [name]October[/name]): I’d stay away from [name]Opaline[/name], in case people pronounce it opal-een (which will happen), as [name]Opal[/name]-een [name]Green[/name] rhymes.

[name]Cornelia[/name]: I prefer [name]Cordelia[/name] (and [name]Cora[/name]), but [name]Cornelia[/name] definitely works!

[name]Vivianne[/name] (did [name]Angelina[/name] [name]Jolie[/name] ruin it for all of us though?): I’ve always loved [name]Vivienne[/name], and I honestly don’t consider [name]Vivienne[/name] a star-sanctioned name.

From your list, [name]Elodie[/name] (you could always stretch out on a limb and call her [name]Edie[/name]) and [name]Esme[/name] are my favorites, both with [name]Beatrice[/name] and with [name]Green[/name].

[name]Esme[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] is stunning!

[name]Esme[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name]

[name]Esme[/name] [name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Diana[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] (Ooops! No G middle initial, as she’ll be EGG!)
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Katharine[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Theodora[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] (so nice, I’m listing it twice!)

[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Julia[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Katharine[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Marielle[/name]

[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Mirabel[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]

[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Anna[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Cora[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Celia[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Diana[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Eva[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name]
Beatice and [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Helen[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Katharine[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Laura[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Willa[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] this helps!

Well, I am never quite as in depth as [name]Jill[/name] is but here are my thoughts:

[name]Adelaide[/name] - Pretty but placenamey. Would you consider [name]Adeline[/name]? She feels a lot sweeter and to me, meshes better with [name]Beatrice[/name] without overshadowing her. And [name]Adeline[/name] [name]Green[/name] works better for me too. OF course, this is all just my thinking!

[name]Anouk[/name] - Gorgeous but a bit odd with [name]Beatrice[/name]. (Now if [name]Beatrice[/name] were [name]Beatrix[/name], I’d say [name]Anouk[/name] was a good match) It’s a weird feel next to [name]Beatrice[/name] for me. I like it but not here. And it’s really abrupt with your surname.

[name]Edith[/name]/[name]Edie[/name] - these two belong together, to me. These would be perfect as a sister for [name]Beatrice[/name]. Really beautiful and feels sprightly paired with your surname.

[name]Elodie[/name] - Now this is stunning! [name]Beatrice[/name] & [name]Elodie[/name] make darling sisters without being matchy, sing songy or too similar. This would be my number one pick for a sister to [name]Beatrice[/name]! Works nicely with your surname too.

[name]Esme[/name] - This is really nice, elegant & simple and would work beautifully with your surname. This would probably be my #3 name, if this was my list.

[name]Opal[/name]/[name]Opaline[/name] - [name]Opal[/name]'s gorgeous, but is a bit too descriptive with your surname. Maybe as a middle? It would be beautiful paired with [name]Adeline[/name], [name]Elodie[/name] , [name]Edith[/name] or [name]Cornelia[/name], I think. As Eveyone else has pointed out [name]Opaline[/name] [name]Green[/name] rhymes and [name]Opaline[/name] made me think Ovaltine right away, a fact the third graders probably will notice too. [name]Opal[/name]'s sweet though.

[name]Cornelia[/name] - I’m a sucker for [name]Cornelia[/name]! I adore it but can’t get my other half on board, so I’m out of luck. But it’s awesome with your surname, has a pretty nickname option or two ([name]Cora[/name], [name]Nellie[/name] or [name]Ellie[/name]) and would be beautiful next to [name]Beatrice[/name]. [name]Cornelia[/name] [name]Opal[/name] [name]Green[/name]? Stunning!

[name]Vivianne[/name] - no brangelina didn’t ruin it, but [name]Vivianne[/name] is really sexy next to [name]Beatrice[/name]. I’d leave it off. (and I prefer it with the ‘e’: [name]Vivienne[/name] or [name]Vivien[/name]. [name]Vivian[/name] looks really butchy to me. Sorry.

So you have a few really lovely options, whichevr one you chose will be perfect, I’m sure.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

I am liking [name]Cordelia[/name] now, [name]Frances[/name] (forgot about this one) and [name]Adeline[/name] instead of [name]Adelaide[/name] (but I see your point [name]Jill[/name], I don’t like the name [name]Addison[/name] so that would be a confusion factor). And truly, I am still mostly attached to [name]Opal[/name] and [name]Edie[/name]/[name]Edith[/name]. I love [name]Eleanor[/name] or [name]Elinor[/name] (from Sense and Sensibility, my fave book) and am trying to convince my husband of that one. Thanks again for your help!

[name]Jill[/name], I forgot to include my previous post was the one titled ‘[name]Birdie[/name]’ in this section.

If you love [name]Opal[/name] or [name]Edith[/name], go for it. I thought of [name]Opal[/name] (instead of [name]Opaline[/name]), but reconsidered after reminding myself that your last name, [name]Green[/name], is a color. (I had suggested [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name] for middle names, but deleted them!) The bottom line, is that if you love it, you should use it!

I love [name]Cordelia[/name] (nn [name]Cora[/name]) with [name]Beatrice[/name], by the way, and [name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is lovely.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Elodie[/name]!!!

Another variant on [name]Adelaide[/name] would be [name]Adelle[/name] if you like that for a full name. Could still be nn [name]Addie[/name] if you wanted.

I also love [name]Vivianne[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name] both, and I didn’t even think about the famous link when I saw it in your post.

I agree with the other posters who prefer [name]Opal[/name] over [name]Opaline[/name].

I really love [name]Elodie[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are beautiful, unique, feminine and have a lot of personality. I think [name]Elodie[/name] is my favorite!

When i read your post, my 1st thought was [name]Cordelia[/name], so I love that you like that! My other thought was for [name]Adeline[/name]/Adeliaide, etc instead of calling her [name]Addie[/name] you could use [name]Dell[/name] or [name]Della[/name], even Liney if you want. Takes away the [name]Addison[/name] confusion & the possibility of being one of many Addys. Otherwise, I love your names! Very beautiful.

What about [name]Elspeth[/name]?

I like [name]Francesca[/name] with [name]Beatrice[/name] too
