OpheliaFlora's Questionnaire [Your Names]

1. What name/combo are you currently considering or thinking about? I am considering promoting Luna to my shortlist, and also thinking of Anya!

2. What combo would you steal from another berry? I would totally steal @rhodes2nowhere ‘s Astrid Lyra!

3. Do you find girls’ or boys’ names easier to come up with? Girls, utterly and completely

4. Do you find yourself gravitating towards certain sounds in names? A bit towards -ia and -ee sounds at the ends for girls and maybe ‘oo’ sounds for boys but nothing major

5. What is your favourite combo pattern (syllables, emphasis, endings)? I like seven syllable combos for double middles, and I also find myself going with shorter firsts, longer middles over the opposite pattern which seems more popular (e.g. Mae Saskia over Saskia Mae)

6. What is your aesthetic for names? I like my girls to match this emoji: :woman_cartwheeling:. I want them to have a sort of playful feel and I need to be able to imagine them having fun. I can see playful names on a serious girl but not serious names on a playful girl if that makes sense? With my boys, honestly just anything I like.

7. When you think about names, what do you picture? The name’s aesthetic, prominent associations, and sometimes future children.

8. Could you see yourself scrapping your whole list once you have to name an actual child? For those of you that already have children, were there any names that you had never considered before that made it onto the short list? Maybe, but I’d like to at least consider some of my favourites.

9. Sell me a name of yours that gets too little love! Reuben - it has that lovely ‘oo’ sound, it rolls wonderfully off the tongue, comes with adorable nickname Roo/Reu and fits on all sorts of people!

10. What is your favourite name meaning/combo meaning? I think Mia meaning ‘mine’ is really sweet for a child. Beckett ‘bee cottage’ is also a favourite.

11. Which names do you feel especially protective over? Mia, Imogen, Bronte and Jasper

12. Are there any names on your list that you adore but don’t actually see yourself using (not because you can’t but because, as bold as you feel now, you don’t think you’ll be as bold naming an actual child)? I generally don’t keep names I wouldn’t or couldn’t use on my list but in an ideal world, Sophie, Eliza, Bridie, Hallie, Meg, Morgan (b) and Margot would all be there but currently aren’t.

13. What are your favourite nicknames? Both standalone and ones you would only use as nicknames or/and within the family? Meg, Mim, Ginny, Mae, Roo, Robbie

14. You have to name your children but your mind goes blank - which berries are allowed to name your children (with their names or their knowledge of your names) and why? Ooh I feel like @VioletMoon would come up with something lovely, @seawillow would make it meaningful and I would also trust @kasatka to know my taste!

15. You move to a country whose name starts with the second letter of the country you currently live in (you can choose the langue this applies to); you plan on raising your children there and want to choose names that fit in, which names do you choose? Ukraine, I would use Yelyzaveta, Nina, Mariya and Aleksander.

16. Which country would you want to live in only so you could use a favourite name that doesn’t work where you live? What’s the name? Maybe Israel so Talia is the most common spelling or the UK where I wouldn’t feel so odd using a nickname (and where Margot sounds nice!)

17. What would your own name or your favourite combo look like if you had to use international variations of each name? Genoveva Luise

18. What names would you pick if you could only use the names of main characters that appeared in the past three tv shows/movies you watched (more than one episode of)? What about only from your three favourite shows/movies? I really don’t watch enough TV or movies but from my favourite TV show, Lyra Serafina and Will Roger (His Dark Materials) and from movies, Lily, Luna, Ginny, Cedric, James (Harry Potter)

19. If you had to, what names from the previous poster’s UC (or mine if they don’t have one) would you pick for your own child? @vida I would choose River Dimitri and Cleo Boheme!

20. Tell me about your names in as much or little detail as you want  My names are lovely and special and so very me, they feel like home :relieved:
