Opinion on Boris?

[name_f]My[/name_f] Grandma is named [name_f]Doris[/name_f] and I was wondering what you think about [name_m]Boris[/name_m] as a Masculine [name_m]Honour[/name_m] Name for [name_f]Doris[/name_f].

I am not expecting I am building a name list.

It’s alright but I would go with [name_m]Dorian[/name_m] as an honor name.

Unfortunately it’s not my favorite name. I think it’s a cool and clever way to honor [name_f]Doris[/name_f], but I personally don’t love the sound of [name_m]Boris[/name_m] (particularly the [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation - I prefer the Russian), and it reminds me of [name_m]Boris[/name_m] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m] and Borat

Other masculine names I think could honor [name_f]Doris[/name_f] are [name_m]Dorian[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Salvador[/name_m], or [name_m]Isidore[/name_m].

Not my fav, but I do like [name_m]Morris[/name_m]!

I think I’m in the minority but I do quite like it! I find it an interesting, clunky-cool-grandpa way to get to the nickname [name_m]Bo[/name_m]. I do think of [name_m]Boris[/name_m] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m] a little bit but since I know another [name_m]Boris[/name_m] he’s not an overwhelming association to me. I do prefer the Russian pronunciation but the [name_f]English[/name_f] one is nice too.

It works as an honour - subtle but makes sense. Still, as someone in the UK, it’s become a sort of ‘one-person’ name but that might not be an issue where you are:person_shrugging:

Completely agree with @whatchamacallit I massively prefer [name_m]Dorian[/name_m] as an honour for [name_f]Doris[/name_f] over [name_m]Boris[/name_m]. Not keen on [name_m]Boris[/name_m]. I just think [name_m]Boris[/name_m] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m].

Not for me. It reminds me of [name_m]Boris[/name_m] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m] and doesn’t have an appealing sound to my ear.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] the suggestion of [name_m]Dorian[/name_m] thought! [name_m]Or[/name_m] how about [name_m]Darius[/name_m]?

honestly, [name_m]Boris[/name_m] is quite ugly. I think [name_m]Dorian[/name_m] would be better

[name_m]Eh[/name_m] its sound isnt the most appealing, but I do appreciate the creativity of it.

Being outside of the UK, my strongest association with [name_m]Boris[/name_m] is [name_m]Boris[/name_m] Karloff. Which isnt the greatest or worst association. But personally I think I would go with [name_m]Dorian[/name_m], [name_m]Darius[/name_m], [name_m]Norris[/name_m] or [name_m]Morris[/name_m] before I went with [name_m]Boris[/name_m].

I don’t like it, sorry. But I’m English and I hate the Tories so I have a bad association with the name. This may be fine if you’re not in the UK though. I really like Morrissey as a middle name honour for a Doris, and love the suggestion of Dorian.

[name_m]Boris[/name_m] is all right, guess it depends on the country you’re in though because I know a few Brits don’t like it because of [name_m]Boris[/name_m] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Bogdan[/name_m] better myself.

To honor [name_f]Doris[/name_f], though, what about something like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]? That’s more my style, but [name_m]Boris[/name_m] is fine!

Good luck!
