I was looking for names and I came across [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m], what would you think of the name?
And what would you think of the nn [name_u]Connie[/name_u] (idea from Behind The Name)? Would you still see [name_u]Connie[/name_u] as a unisex name or is it too girly nowadays (Like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], etc.)?
Disike ( a lot) [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] - I know a [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] who goes by [name_u]Neil[/name_u]. I bet he wishes his parents just named him [name_u]Neil[/name_u].
[name_u]Connie[/name_u] - girls name.
With so many great names to choose from - this wouldn’t be anywhere on my radar.
I don’t mind it (prefer the female [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], which I realise isn’t a lot of help :)) but I’d wager that no matter what you choose as a nn he [name_m]WILL[/name_m] be called [name_m]Corney[/name_m]/[name_f]Cornie[/name_f] the minute he gets to school…
I’ve always associated [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] with the movie Thumbelina - but then, I am a product of the '90s.
I otherwise quite like it, but there definitely would be the obvious “[name_u]Corny[/name_u]” jokes from kids at school.
I quite like it, but would never ever be brave enough myself. I think it’s a very daring name, but cool and striking on the right person.
I actually do know a [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] (Irish - not uncommon there as saint’s names have long been popular) and it works on him - he’s extremely outgoing and has a strong personality. But there’s no guarantee that your child would be like that, and I do think that [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] and [name_u]Connie[/name_u] could easily invite teasing.
My first associations are [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] “[name_u]Cory[/name_u]” [name_m]Matthews[/name_m] from Boy Meets World and Yukon [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] from the [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] special.
The name itself is a bit much. It isn’t so much the “corny” stuff that does it for me…it’s more of the stuffiness of the name. It’s fussy and I don’t think the ‘geeky’ persona can be shaken from this. Pity, as I do think that names like this should be ready for a comeback.
I love [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]! It sounds fun and whimsical, which can be hard to find in boy names. [name_u]Cory[/name_u] and [name_u]Neil[/name_u] are my favorite nicknames for it, but I eally like it wothout nicknames myself.
I think [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] is a handsome, refreshing choice! I agree with the previous poster about the nicknames though (I prefer [name_u]Cory[/name_u] or [name_u]Neil[/name_u]!).
Thumbs down on [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]. It isn’t a bad name, per se, the the potential nicknames are troublesome. I know a 50-something man with this name and he goes by [name_u]Connie[/name_u]. Sorry, but calling a grown man [name_u]Connie[/name_u] is odd. Then there’s the potential for “[name_u]Corny[/name_u]” which could be troubling for a school-age boy.
