Opinions and first impressions

[name]Hi[/name] all,

The list is pretty long so you don’t have to comment on all of the names, but what are your opinions and first impressions of these girls names. Name popularity isn’t as important to us as a good strong name that will age well.

[name]Laura[/name]
[name]Joy[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Celia[/name]

[name]Olivia[/name] - always love this, the popularity is the only thing that puts me off. I picture a spunky, creative girl.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Elise[/name], [name]Elle[/name]) - I really like all the nn possibilities with this name!
[name]Grace[/name] - this one is alright, very overdone as a mn, but nice as a simple, feminine first.
[name]Lillian[/name] ([name]Lily[/name]) - very sweet and girly!
[name]Anna[/name] - I like the classic feel. Simple but substantial.
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mia[/name], [name]Amy[/name]) - This one’s okay.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - I love this, but again, it’s a little popular for my taste.
[name]Audrey[/name] - I WANT to love this name, but I always hear "odd"rey
[name]Claire[/name] - this is my name, so I’m biased. But I’ve always liked my name, and get compliments on it all the time. I like that it’s simple and classic.
[name]Katherine[/name] - I like [name]Katherine[/name]. It’s so classic, but the K adds some spunk.
[name]Brooke[/name] - not my style at all.
[name]Madeline[/name] - I love this, especially with the French spelling. I wouldn’t use it, because of the nn [name]Maddy[/name]. But that’s just me. I love this name because I love the books as a child. Because of this connection, I picture a smart, adventurous red-head.
[name]Isabelle[/name] - prefer [name]Isobel[/name].
[name]Lydia[/name] - NMS, but it’s pretty. Would grow well through childhood into adulthood.
[name]Megan[/name] - a little dated, but a good name nonetheless.
[name]Summer[/name] - not a fan. Seems like a ditzy sort of name.
[name]Eleanor[/name] ([name]Nora[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Elle[/name]) - I adore [name]Eleanor[/name]! So gorgeous, classic, feminine and versatile with nns.
[name]Jacqueline[/name] - again, seems dated. [name]Jacky[/name] is just awful. Sort of middle-agey.
[name]Alice[/name] - sweet and innocent sounding. I love the “[name]Alice[/name]'s Adventures in Wonderland” connection. I can see this getting popular.
[name]Emina[/name] - don’t like. Doesn’t seem to match the others at all.
[name]Margaret[/name] - I love the meaning (pearl) and nns [name]Maggie[/name] and [name]Maisie[/name].
[name]Laura[/name] - pretty, but overdone in the recent past.
[name]Joy[/name] - very cute!
[name]Helena[/name] - a little middle agey again, sorry!
[name]Maeve[/name] -I love the look, and the [name]May[/name] sound at the beginning, but I can’t get on board with this name for some reason. But, I can see it working for many types of girl, from tomboy to the princessy type.
[name]Celia[/name] - I love this…the meaning is just lovely. I also love [name]Cecelia[/name].

[name]Olivia[/name]- Not my favourite name, probably due to its popularity. I also think that is doesn’t age well, suits a child, but not a woman
[name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Elise[/name], [name]Elle[/name])- like it, but not my taste. Would use [name]Beth[/name] as a nickname though
[name]Grace[/name]- boring
[name]Lillian[/name] ([name]Lily[/name])- never have liked the name [name]Lily[/name], but [name]Lillian[/name] is nice…makes me think of the Rugrats!
[name]Anna[/name]- lovely, suits girls, teens and women. Wouldn’t necessarily use it, but I do like it.
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mia[/name], [name]Amy[/name])- [name]Amelia[/name] is very popular where I live, so I am over it. I love [name]Amy[/name] as a stand alone name, and I also like [name]Mia[/name].
[name]Charlotte[/name]- always classy, if overused.
[name]Audrey[/name]- [name]Love[/name] it! So classy and stylish (thanks to [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn), I love this name! I would also suggest [name]Aubrey[/name] (unisex)
[name]Claire[/name]- no opinion really, but nice
[name]Katherine[/name]- Would spell it [name]Catherine[/name], but not my favourite name…its kind of stuffy.
[name]Brooke[/name]- Cute name…but I think it is just that…cute. [name]May[/name] not wear well on anyone except a child.
[name]Madeline[/name]- [name]Love[/name] it!So pretty.
[name]Isabelle[/name]- Not my favourite…there are other ‘[name]Belle[/name]’ names I like better. P
[name]Lydia[/name]- no thanks, don’t like it.
[name]Megan[/name]- Depends where you live- in Australia its pronounced Mee-gan, which I don’t like. In the US its a longer ‘a’ sound that only Americans can get right! And then it can also be [name]May[/name]-gan which is a slightly different sound to the American sound (obviously depends on the American accent as well) My name is Maeghan ([name]May[/name]-gan) which is Welsh and it is constantly mispronounced. In Australia where I live people usually say Mee-gan. I would hesitate at using it for that reason- or spell it phonetically (not that it worked for me).
[name]Summer[/name]- too trendy and kind of a ‘dumb’ name
[name]Eleanor[/name] ([name]Nora[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Elle[/name])- Very nice. I also like [name]Lenore[/name].
[name]Jacqueline[/name]- Not my favourite
[name]Alice[/name]- boring
[name]Emina[/name]- Too weird!
[name]Margaret[/name]- [name]Lovely[/name], if old fashioned. I like [name]Meg[/name] though
[name]Laura[/name]- Very popular where I live, so don’t really like it.
[name]Joy[/name]- needs a particular type of person to wear it.
[name]Helena[/name]- Ok, I like [name]Helene[/name] better
[name]Maeve[/name]- Great name!
[name]Celia[/name]- [name]Don[/name]'t like it!

[name]Olivia[/name] - love it.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Elise[/name], [name]Elle[/name]) - not my favorite, but you can’t go wrong with it.
[name]Grace[/name] - pretty but I’m kind of bored by it.
[name]Lillian[/name] ([name]Lily[/name]) - nice I love the nn [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Anna[/name] - one of my favorite names.
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mia[/name], [name]Amy[/name]) - OK. [name]Love[/name] [name]Amy[/name].
[name]Charlotte[/name] - very nice.
[name]Audrey[/name] - elegant.
[name]Claire[/name] - nice
[name]Katherine[/name] - love it.
[name]Brooke[/name] - okay
[name]Madeline[/name] - okay. [name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Maddie[/name]. Prefer [name]Madeleine[/name] spelling. .
[name]Isabelle[/name] - nice
[name]Lydia[/name] - I like it a lot
[name]Megan[/name] - it’s a good name. I pronounce it [name]MEG[/name]-in. (short e, not long a).
[name]Summer[/name] - feels lightweight compared with the other names on your list.
[name]Eleanor[/name] ([name]Nora[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Elle[/name]) - I like it, and I like the nicknames for it.
[name]Jacqueline[/name] - okay.
[name]Alice[/name] - very nice name. I also like [name]Alison[/name].
[name]Emina[/name] - not familiar with this, don’t like as much as the others. At first glance I thought it was [name]Emma[/name], which I like. .
[name]Margaret[/name] - I don’t love the sound of it, but it’s a solid name. The only nn I like is [name]Greta[/name].
[name]Laura[/name] - love it.
[name]Joy[/name] - it’s cute.
[name]Helena[/name] - I like it but there are several ways to pronounce it.
[name]Maeve[/name] - It’s nice but I can’t really get into it. .
[name]Celia[/name] - love it, and it is pretty uncommon.

I think most of the names on your list age very well.

Overall I loved almost every name on your list, but I think that my favorites were [name]Audrey[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Elyse[/name] (or [name]Elizabeth[/name]), [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Celia[/name]. But I was hard pressed to get to a Top 5 with so many gorgeous options! [name]Margaret[/name] was pretty much tied with the others so it’s more of a Top 6 really.
