We are leaning towards [name]Helena[/name] (helen-uh) [name]Rose[/name] if this baby is a girl. Nickname “[name]Nella[/name].” What are your thoughts? I appreciate all comments, the good, the bad, the ugly…
I love [name]Helena[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. [name]Helena[/name] is one of my favourite names. [name]Rose[/name] is a beautiful middle name for [name]Helena[/name], but I would choose [name]Maud[/name] or [name]Alice[/name] myself
I love. love, love [name]Maud[/name]!!! But DH is a no go on it!
[name]Love[/name] [name]Helena[/name]. It’s one of my favorites too. You can’t go wrong with [name]Rose[/name] as a middle name. [name]Nella[/name] is an unusual choice for an nn, but I like it!
I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Helena[/name] and nn [name]Nella[/name] is very cute. [name]Rose[/name] isn’t my favorite, but I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority on not loving this name. That being said, [name]Helena[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is a beautiful name.
Thanks for the responses so far. My Dh’s late grandmother’s name was [name]Rosa[/name] [name]Helena[/name]. So that is in part why the [name]Rose[/name] middle name, along with my middle name being Roselynn and my great grandmothers name was [name]Rose[/name].
[name]Shame[/name]! Hmm… you could always try [name]Mary[/name] as a middle, if you like it. [name]Mary[/name] is connected to [name]Maud[/name], I believe.
As you can see from my signature, [name]Helena[/name] is my favorite name for a girl. Here’s a list of reasons I love [name]Helena[/name]:
-
It honors my great-grandmother [name]Helen[/name]. This obviously is only a pro for me, although many people have grandmothers and great-grandmothers named [name]Helen[/name].
-
[name]Helena[/name] is easy to spell, easy to say, and easy to recognize.
-
It’s being used but not overused. This will vary regionally, but I’ve never met a little girl named [name]Helena[/name] (or [name]Helen[/name]).
-
[name]Helena[/name] is elegant with a rich history, feminine without being frilly, and strong but with a soft sound. These are some of my favorite qualities in a girl’s name.
-
It’s a name a girl can grow into. If [name]Helena[/name] feels too “adult” for your little girl, there are several nickname options to choose from. My favorite is [name]Nell[/name] or [name]Nellie[/name], although I do prefer just [name]Helena[/name].
All that being said, [name]Helena[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is a beautiful name.
I adore the name [name]Helena[/name]. I think it’s so much more elegant and lovely than just [name]Helen[/name]. I think [name]Nella[/name] or [name]Nell[/name] is a great nickname!
Fantastic choice!
I love the nickname [name]Nella[/name], but not a fan of [name]Helen[/name]-uh pronunciation. It just feels wrong, I keep wanting to pronounce it Hel-laina.
I absolutely love [name]Helena[/name]! It’s so classy and sweet and girly. I prefer the nn [name]Leni[/name], personally, but [name]Nella[/name] is cute. I think she could easily switch into just [name]Nell[/name] as she grows older, wants something a little less cutesy. I love [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Lena[/name] as nns for [name]Helena[/name], too.
[name]Rose[/name] isn’t my favorite, either, but I am all for honoring family. So I think it’s great for that reason. You can’t go wrong with a classic like [name]Helena[/name] [name]Rose[/name]!
Good luck!
I love [name]Helena[/name] but not crazy about the nn choice.
Looks like I’m the only person who doesn’t like [name]Helena[/name] :-/
I’ve always thought it was a very heavy-feeling name…similar to [name]Barbara[/name] or [name]Maureen[/name].
[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Helena[/name]–it is my daughter’s name and we have never regretted choosing it! I think it is feminine and beautiful but without being frilly. We have yet to meet another [name]Helena[/name], but everyone is familiar with the name, which is another plus. We pronounce [name]Helena[/name] the same way you do, but have found that lots of people say it differently, so that could be something for you to consider. We use [name]Lena[/name] as a nickname for our daughter, but we love the fact that there are lots of other nickname options if she wants to change it up someday. I think [name]Nella[/name] is just adorable.
[name]Rose[/name] sounds beautiful with [name]Helena[/name], and is a great choice especially since it has special meaning for your family. We went with a meaningful middle name over one with better “flow” and have always been happy we did.
Too me, [name]Helena[/name] just looks like someone slapped an A on [name]Helen[/name]… I like [name]Helen[/name] by itself, it’s a strong name.
I love it!
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is beautiful, and [name]Nella[/name] is very cute.
I think [name]Helena[/name] is lovely (possibly influenced by the fact that my sister is called [name]Helen[/name] and I love the name [name]Eleanor[/name]). [name]Helena[/name] has a lilting, musical sound, it’s strong yet feminine and I love the nickname [name]Nella[/name]. I love the name [name]Rose[/name] but fear, like [name]May[/name] and [name]Grace[/name], it has become a “default” middle name so sadly I have crossed if off my list.
I love it pronounced this way & I considered it for my daughter! We didn’t use it cause of the 3 possible pronunciations becoming confusing…plus I only like [name]Helen[/name]-uh out of the 3!
[name]Helena[/name] has long been one of my favorite girl’s names. I’ve used it for a character in a book. A nickname could be [name]Leni[/name], like [name]Heidi[/name] Klum’s daughter.
