My husband loves the name Miles, which I do like, and we are wanting to keep the middle name a family name of some sort. He really likes Isaac - which is a name that goes back in his family tree. We aren’t sharing names before the birth with friends/family - so I’m wondering if Miles Isaac flows well? Some times I feel like it’s a little bit of a tongue twister and can’t fully commit. Thoughts?! Thank you!
Welcome to Nameberry and congratulations!
I love the names Miles and Isaac, they’re both gorgeous cool classics. They definitely flow well enough – there’s the slight repetition of the I and S/Z sounds but nothing that trips me up too much when I say it, and they feel very cohesive stylistically. So in theory, I am all for this combination.
However, what jumps out at me from your post is that it is all about what your husband wants.
He’s pushing for the first name he loves, he’s insisting that the middle name must be a family name – and one from his side of the family tree, too. Will baby have his surname as well? It just seems very one-sided as decision-making processes go.
What would you name your son if you got free rein? Do you have any alternative contenders for any of the names that you’d really love to consider? Miles Isaac is a lovely combination but another name might be all the lovelier for representing a true compromise between your two styles and sets of preferences.
We’re both open to many ideas or possibilities for middle names. We’ve pondered [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Austin[/name_u]. We always seem to go back to [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] - but was just looking for other opinions is all!
That’s good to hear! [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] truly is a handsome choice. I also really like [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] – strong, classic, great rhythm. Good luck ![]()
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is great! I don’t think it’s a tongue twister at all. ![]()
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] sounds good to me!

I absolutely love [name_u]Miles[/name_u] such a soft handsome choice that feels wholesome. Really gorgeous! I also love [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] he’s a great biblical name that feels happy due to the meaning ‘laughter’ and the general jovial sound of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] adding to the overall happy vibe. [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] sounds nice together and I’m really glad that your reaching a decision together rather than the name purely being his decision! The name should be decided by both of you your opinion is just as important as his (even more so in my eyes) so I’m glad your voice is being heard.
Good luck
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] does seem hard to say to me. I like [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_u]Miles[/name_u] better.
I love [name_u]Miles[/name_u]!
I have a [name_m]Myles[/name_m] and his middle name is [name_m]Raymond[/name_m] (family name). I do find [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] a little tricky to say. Perhaps you could add in a second middle in between [name_u]Miles[/name_u] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] to help them flow better?
I know an Isaac Miles (blurring for privacy since it’s someone’s real name) and he seems to wear it just fine! Miles Isaac flows equally well, I think— they’re maybe not the smoothest flowing pair ever paired because of the long “I” repetition, but definitely perfectly usable and they do work nicely together ![]()
I think [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is great ![]()
