Opinions for second child's name

We’re expecting our second child, a girl, in 2025. [name_f]My[/name_f] spouse and I have had trouble reaching consensus because we have very different preferences for girl names. Some third-party opinions would be appreciated.

We know that the middle name will be Milena. We’ve narrowed the first name down to four: Audrey, Beatrice, Catherine, and Nicole.

Other random bits of info that could help:

  • Our last name begins with a B and is two syllables.
  • Our firstborn, a boy, is named Leon.
  • We live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], in a heavily bilingual area.
  • [name_f]My[/name_f] spouse’s family is Slavic, and any name must be agreeable to their language and culture.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite for you would be [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. It sounds beautiful with the middle name you picked and i love the alliteration with your surname. It goes great with her brother’s name too!

All of your choices are gotgeous but I love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] the most, followed by [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. I think they go the best with [name_f]Milena[/name_f] and your surname, and with [name_m]Leon[/name_m].

Other suggestions:

[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]

I’d go with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - probably [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] (and you could have nn [name_f]Bebe[/name_f] if you wanted it)

Congratulations on your baby girl :tada:

You have a great list and [name_f]Milena[/name_f] is a lovely middle name. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is an elegant, sophisticated choice that has this old school Hollywood glamour vibe. I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Milena[/name_f] is so romantic with a little black dress vibe. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] feels very universal, she’s elegant, has a lovely meaning and the sweet nickname [name_f]Bea[/name_f]. I do prefer [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f] but still [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is lovely and has that pan European vibe of big brother Le0n. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is very regal, elegant and timeless with a range of gorgeous nicknames however I do feel Le0n has a different feel to [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] has a 90s girl next door feel. [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] is sweet but not my favourite and just not as sparkly as Le0n. I think I would go [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] followed by [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Milena[/name_f], those names go well together. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_m]Leon[/name_m] is a nice sibling set too.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite would be [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], but I like the other three a lot as well! [name_f]My[/name_f] least favorite would probably be [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] has the nickname [name_f]Cate[/name_f] or [name_f]Catie[/name_f] which i absolutely love.

All your options are lovely! [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] are my favorites with [name_m]Leon[/name_m], and also [name_f]Milena[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Milena[/name_f] is my favorite. [name_m]Leon[/name_m] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] are so great together!

Good luck!

I’m a bit wary of the alliteration, as I also have an alliterative first/last name combination, and growing up I sometimes resented the sing-song manner in which my name was said. This is only a minor concern, though, and my spouse isn’t worried about it at all.

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] are my top two of the four, but it’s still a close call.

For the list of names, unfortunately most of those have already been rejected by at least one of us. For example, I like the names [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], but my spouse does not. [name_f]My[/name_f] spouse likes [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], but I prefer [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] instead.

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] made our top ten, though, and I don’t think we ever looked at [name_f]Esme[/name_f]. Thanks for the suggestions.

I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of [name_f]Bebe[/name_f], so I’m a bit wary as one cannot control their children’s nicknames after a certain point. Thanks for pointing that out though; it’s something else to consider.

I absolutely adore the sound of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Milena[/name_f] with brother [name_m]Leon[/name_m]! [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] would also be a very pretty choice.

Thank you for the write-up.

I definitely agree that [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] has the Hollywood feel (Audrey Hepburn, [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Tautou).

[name_f]My[/name_f] spouse and I prefer [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] over [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f], mostly for cultural proximity reasons.

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is probably the most “traditional” and straightforward of the bunch, being so strongly associated with nobility in history.

[name_f]Nicole[/name_f] is the most… “normal” I guess? As you point out, it feels like an “average” 90s name. We still really like it though.

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] one of the two I prefer right now (Catherine being the other). The biggest problem with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is that it’s the least comprehensible in my spouse’s native tongue. There really is no way for good way for my in-laws to say it, like there is for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], which becomes [name_f]Katarina[/name_f].

Interesting that you picked [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]. I like the name, but I also see it as the least flashy of the bunch.

As for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], it feels like the dark horse pick for us. It wasn’t a name I really considered until we got deep into this process, and it is a compromise for my spouse too as it doesn’t really exist in her language. But it somehow won out over a bunch of other more traditional names.

I do like the nicknames for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], that’s one of the reasons it made the final four. [name_f]Katie[/name_f] on its own was also pretty high up, but I generally prefer longer names that can be shortened, which is the case for my own name.

Thank you. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] seems to be the popular pick here, and for good reason. As I said in another post, though, its biggest barrier for us is that it doesn’t exist in my spouse’s language, either as it stands or as some sort of equivalent (e.g. [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] becoming Nikolina).

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] are my two preferred options, definitely, and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] seems to be the top choice here as well.

Congratulations!!!

[name_f]Milena[/name_f] is such a beautiful middle name! I don’t know if you have your reasons for it to be in the middle spot, but [name_f]Milena[/name_f] and [name_m]Leon[/name_m] would a lovely sibling set!

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite from your list is [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]! It has such a chic and exotic feel to it, and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Milena[/name_f] is gorgeous.

[name_f]My[/name_f] second choice would be [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] case for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] Milena; it’s one of your favorites, it sounds gorgeous and regal as a combo, and it doesn’t have the same pronunciation/usability with other language issue that [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] has here. (I looked up its Russian variation and was pleasantly surprised at [name_f]Ekaterina[/name_f] and Yekaterina!)

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite from your list is probably [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and then [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] but I would be tempted to pick [name_f]Milena[/name_f] as the first name and call her [name_f]Mila[/name_f] as [name_m]Leon[/name_m] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] sound great together. All lovely names though so you can’t go wrong
