Opinions on a few of my recent favorite boys' names?

I’m just looking for some outside opinions and insight! These are all hypothetical, definitely not kids in the immediate future.

[name]Adlai[/name]
[name]Bram[/name] / [name]Abram[/name] “[name]Bram[/name]” (I love [name]Bram[/name], but I can’t decide if I like it best on its own or as a nickname, and I haven’t totally decided which full name I like best if I do like it as a nickname. There’s [name]Abram[/name], [name]Abraham[/name], [name]Bertram[/name], [name]Bramwell[/name] - I’m tending somewhat toward [name]Abram[/name], but I’m not 100% in any direction.)
[name]North[/name]
[name]Joah[/name]
[name]Bede[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name] (I know this one is used more on girls recently, but it has loads of family history for me and I like the idea of “bringing it back” to the boys’ side. I don’t think it’s too far gone.)
[name]Thayer[/name]
Macsen “[name]Max[/name] / [name]Mac[/name] / [name]Mack[/name]”
[name]Errol[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Emery[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]

I think I’ve asked about a few of these before on these boards, but this is just sort of a compilation for my own purposes, so of course you can skip over whatever names you want to. What do you think?

[name]Adlai[/name] is very interesting, and I’d expect a very handsome and mysterious guy. It intrigues me and I’d love to meet one.

[name]Bram[/name] would be better as a nickname but even then I don’t like any of the full versions. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Avram[/name]? I think that’s cool.

[name]North[/name]? No not a name to me at all, [name]North[/name], South, [name]East[/name], [name]West[/name]… just doesn’t work as a name. Maybe a middle name?

I can’t take to [name]Joah[/name] at all and I think people outside of Nameberry, those non name nerds, wouldn’t understand this and just assume [name]Jonah[/name] or [name]Noah[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Joachim[/name]?

I’m not even sure how to pronounce [name]Bede[/name], sorry.

[name]Morgan[/name] is fabulous on a boy and I strongly dislike it on a girl. It is pretty unisex in the UK and I’d say it hovers nearer the top 100 for boys than girls. I love meeting little boy [name]Morgan[/name]'s but have met a fair few of each sex. It seems too masculine for a girl though in my eyes.

I don’t like [name]Thayer[/name] or Macsen. [name]How[/name] is [name]Thayer[/name] pronounced? Macsen seems very trendy and made up but the nn [name]Mac[/name] is cool.

[name]Errol[/name] seems like a middle aged man’s name but I do actually know a 5 year old [name]Errol[/name].

I love [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Emery[/name] and [name]Everett[/name], don’t think you can go wrong with any of those.

Favourites; [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Emery[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Morgan[/name] and [name]Adlai[/name].

I love [name]Adlai[/name] and [name]Avram[/name], [name]Morgan[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name]. I prefer [name]Erling[/name] to [name]Errol[/name], but I do know a 20 yr old named this. [name]Thayer[/name] makes me think of the actor [name]Thayer[/name] [name]David[/name] who used to be on Dark Shadows, good actor but yuck. I prefer [name]Madoc[/name] and [name]Magnus[/name] to Macsen.

[name]Adlai[/name] - I’m not a huge fan of this and it makes me think of politicians.
[name]Bram[/name] / [name]Abram[/name] “[name]Bram[/name]” (I love [name]Bram[/name], but I can’t decide if I like it best on its own or as a nickname, and I haven’t totally decided which full name I like best if I do like it as a nickname. There’s [name]Abram[/name], [name]Abraham[/name], [name]Bertram[/name], [name]Bramwell[/name] - I’m tending somewhat toward [name]Abram[/name], but I’m not 100% in any direction.) - I like [name]Bram[/name] and prefer [name]Abraham[/name] as a way of getting there.
[name]North[/name] - I dislike this as a name… maybe a middle name at most?
[name]Joah[/name] - This just looks to me like you hit the wrong key on the keyboard, especially since J and N are adjacent.
[name]Bede[/name] - No offence, but I really am not a fan of this one. It doesn’t even seem like a legitimate name to me even though I know it is.
[name]Morgan[/name] (I know this one is used more on girls recently, but it has loads of family history for me and I like the idea of “bringing it back” to the boys’ side. I don’t think it’s too far gone.) - I say take it back!
[name]Thayer[/name] - Okay, but not my style.
Macsen “[name]Max[/name] / [name]Mac[/name] / [name]Mack[/name]” - I like this name, but not the spelling.
[name]Errol[/name] - I like this, but seeing as it is the town where my family camp is I could never use it myself.
[name]Rowan[/name] - [name]Love[/name].
[name]Emery[/name] - I know this is a unisex name, but it seems more feminine to me. Plus it reminds me of emery boards.
[name]Everett[/name] - Not my favorite, but I like it.

[name]Adlai[/name] - I love it! I’ve loved this for so long and I would imagine a cultured yet quirky kind of guy. I think it’s really cool.

[name]Bram[/name] - I love [name]Bram[/name], actually, but really can’t stand [name]Abram[/name] or [name]Abraham[/name]! I do love the idea of [name]Bertram[/name] nn [name]Bram[/name], though!

[name]North[/name] - I do like it but doubt I would ever use it. It just doesn’t seem “namey” enough for me, but it is definitely cool! I also like [name]West[/name]/[name]Wesley[/name] and [name]Easton[/name]/[name]East[/name]…

[name]Joah[/name] - I’ve never been a fan of this… it looks a lot more Hebrew than your other choices and it always seems like somebody misspelled [name]Noah[/name] or [name]Jonah[/name] to me. :frowning:

[name]Bede[/name] - [name]How[/name] do you say this? [name]BEE[/name]-dee? The description Nameberry gives is appealing to me but I don’t really like the sound or look of it…

[name]Morgan[/name] - I like this for a boy! Some days I see it as a girls’ name, and others as a boy. Since I’ve been watching Criminal Minds half of the day, it is all boy to me. I really like it.

[name]Thayer[/name] - not really my thing, but it’s okay. I think the pronunciation is tricky, though… I think most would opt for [name]THAY[/name]-er almost like Grayer, but one pronunciation guide says it’s a French name said like tie-YEHR, so I think that’d be a bit problematic if you wanted the original French pronunciation.

[name]Errol[/name] - it’s never really appealed to me but I think it’d be interesting to see used in real life.

[name]Rowan[/name] - love. I don’t quite adore it but I do like it a lot.

[name]Emery[/name] - I am not a huge fan. It seems too unisex for me and I’ve always liked [name]Emerson[/name] more. It’s okay, just not my thing.

[name]Everett[/name] - my favorite from your list! [name]Everett[/name] is on my top 3 and I think it’s just perfect. The nns Ev and [name]Rhett[/name] are pretty cool, too.

Good luck!

[name]Adlai[/name] - I had to look this one up. Cool meaning, cool name. On the downside it’s VERY unusual, probably would get lots of spelling errors, and vaguely puts me in mind of [name]Adelaide[/name].

[name]Bram[/name] is NMS but I don’t object to it. It’s just not a name I’d use. I like [name]Abram[/name] though, it’s less expected than [name]Abraham[/name]. [name]Bertram[/name] is a “dorky” name around here. [name]Bramwell[/name] doesn’t really appeal to me.

[name]North[/name] - I think this is a cool name.

[name]Joah[/name] - Okay I had to look this up to see if it really was like [name]Noah[/name] with a J and apparently it is. I kind of like it.

[name]Bede[/name] - Like bead? Or beady eyes? I like the meaning but not the name. Have you ever considered [name]Piran[/name]? Same meaning.

[name]Morgan[/name] - OOh, you’re braver than I am to bring rescue this from the girls. It could be “time” though, and you know there IS [name]Morgan[/name] [name]Freeman[/name] on the mens side.

[name]Thayer[/name] - I would say this [name]THAY[/name]-er, which is really unappealing.

Macsen “[name]Max[/name] / [name]Mac[/name] / [name]Mack[/name]” – it sounds too much like the magazine [name]Maxim[/name] for me.

[name]Errol[/name] - This spelling is a whole lot more appealing than [name]Earl[/name] but I think it would be confusing in general. I wanted to say [name]Air[/name]-il before I looked it up.

[name]Rowan[/name] - I think this is a pretty gorgeous name but considering how much it is used by girls now I’m afraid to use it on a boy.

[name]Emery[/name] - I just never liked this. I’m sorry, but it just makes me think of file boards for your fingernails.

[name]Everett[/name] - oooh, one of my FAVORITES. I love this name. [name]Love[/name] it. I’d probably use it if I didn’t already have a daughter named [name]Eve[/name]!

Thanks so much for your responses everyone!

[name]Avram[/name] is very nice, but I wouldn’t be able to get [name]Bram[/name] out of it (or at least it would be much more of a stretch), and that was the main appeal of [name]Abram[/name] for me in the first place.

[name]Bede[/name] is one syllable, like a “bead” in a necklace. There’s an Australian surfer with the name, [name]Bede[/name] Durbidge, and he isn’t where I first discovered it but he seems to wear it fairly well which gives me hope that it might work on someone other than an ancient monk.

Macsen doesn’t seem to be in the database, but it’s the Welsh version of [name]Maxim[/name].

Thanks so much to everyone for taking time to respond! It’s really helpful and interesting to see which names other people tend to like or dislike and which names people find to be just strange/unfamiliar/unintuitive/generally not workable.

[name]Adlai[/name]–like it. I am familiar with the name via [name]Adlai[/name] [name]Stevenson[/name], but I’ve never known anyone named [name]Adlai[/name].
[name]Bram[/name]–don’t really like it. It’s really close to the word “pram.” Not a fan of the name [name]Bramwell[/name] (a name of a TV miniseries.) Out of the “[name]Bram[/name]” names, I agree that [name]Abram[/name] is best.
Of the rest of the names, I really like [name]Morgan[/name] (I wish it hadn’t been used so frequently for girls!). [name]Rowan[/name] is a name that is really growing on me, and I think I like [name]Everett[/name] as well.

[name]Adlai[/name] - It’s ok but it sounds feminine to me. Reminds me of [name]Adelaide[/name].
[name]Bram[/name] / [name]Abram[/name] “[name]Bram[/name]” - [name]Don[/name]'t really like any of the options personally.
[name]North[/name] - A little too out there for me.
[name]Joah[/name] - I didn’t look it up so I could be wrong but this just seems made up and/or a kre8ive version of [name]Noah[/name].
[name]Bede[/name] - Seems incomplete. Maybe as a nn for something?
[name]Morgan[/name] - I know of a male [name]Morgan[/name] but he’s my age. I think it sounds more feminine [name]IMO[/name] but it’s really not too bad.
[name]Thayer[/name] - It’s my neighbor’s last name so there are a few reasons I don’t like it…
Macsen “[name]Max[/name] / [name]Mac[/name] / [name]Mack[/name]” - I’d prefer something else… like [name]Maxwell[/name]?
[name]Errol[/name] - Too close to “error” for me.
[name]Rowan[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! Also love [name]Ronan[/name] as an alternative.
[name]Emery[/name] - [name]Just[/name] reminds me of an emery board.
[name]Everett[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it!

[name]North[/name] - I don’t mind it! I think the right kid could pull it off.
[name]Emery[/name] - I prefer [name]Embry[/name].
[name]Everett[/name] - [name]One[/name] of my oldest’s name, so I love it.
