Opinions on and nicknames for Avery

Hi,

We really like the name Avery and we’ve come up with the nicknames Ava and Vera, which might be a stretch.

I’m just wondering if there are any better nicknames and also what the general opinion on this name is.

[name_f]Avie[/name_f]

[name_f]Ave[/name_f]

Maybe :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: cute or strange. It may not be shortened much ?

my top choice would be avie (ay-vee), which i think is just the sweetest !! ava is lovely too.

more stretchy, but you could also probably get away with:
vee
a (just like. the letter)
vivi
very
irie
aya
ave
or something combined with her middle name !! e.g. avery june could be aj, or avery mia could be amy

overall, while avery isn’t personally my style, i think it’s a really nice choice for a little girl. i love the meaning, and i think the nickname avie is just darling !

[name_u]Avery[/name_u] is cute and modern.

[name_f]Ava[/name_f] doesn’t feel like a stretch at all! [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is unexpected but it’s cool and gives the name a possibly different vibe!

[name_u]Avery[/name_u] nicknames:

[name_f]Avie[/name_f]
[name_f]Aya[/name_f]
[name_m]Vero[/name_m]
[name_f]Aylee[/name_f]
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]
Airy/Airie/Aerie
[name_f]Elvie[/name_f] (from the meaning)
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] (as in from aviary → [name_u]Avery[/name_u] → [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
AJ (if you use a J middle name, like [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], [name_u]Avery[/name_u] Juno)

I don’t like it. It’s too close to ovary for me.

Yikes, I never thought of that. Thank you for telling me. [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is out, then.

Are you open to suggestions?

Definitely! We also like [name_f]Therese[/name_f], [name_u]Camille[/name_u] and similar names.

I mean…I’d only worry about its shared sounds with “ovary” if that really puts you off personally. [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is a very popular name so that clearly hasn’t scared people off from using it.

I think it’s a very pretty surname name. Other surname names I like that aren’t quite as popular would be [name_u]Larkin[/name_u], [name_u]Afton[/name_u], or [name_u]Blythe[/name_u].

Personally, I love the names [name_f]Therese[/name_f] and [name_u]Camille[/name_u] also. If you’re planning more kids, I’d think about what your favorite naming style is. Tailored French-inflected names like [name_f]Therese[/name_f] and [name_u]Camille[/name_u], or breezy, modern surname names like [name_u]Avery[/name_u]?

That’s my name and I’ve never really liked it, mostly because it’s trendiness and other personal reasons, though I think I might have a more positive opinion on it if it weren’t my own name. The lack of nicknames has always been something that’s bothered me. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Ave[/name_f], though I’ve been called it before, and I view [name_f]Ava[/name_f] as a completely separate name and get irritated whenever people call me it (it rarely happens but it has a couple times).

I don’t care for the name, but that doesn’t make it a bad name. I just like names that are clearly male or female about 90% of the time.

It does honestly put me off, I can’t unsee it now, but thank you!

We currently have [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (Maggie) and [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] (Joey). We’re not really planning more than 3 kids, maybe 4.

So far we’ve only decided on a middle name, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

Our family is huge, so there are a lot of good and classic names we can’t use (Anna, [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], Victoria…).

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m really sorry to hear you’re unhappy with your name. Maybe you might also prefer the nickname [name_f]Vera[/name_f] or something along those lines? I also have a name that doesn’t come with nicknames that I’m aware of (Fiona), but sometimes people call me [name_u]Fee[/name_u], which I think is funny because they’re gonna have to pay a fee for calling me that.

Thank you so much! A lot of these are actually already on our list and now we have more. [name_f]My[/name_f] partner really loves [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. I do too, but I prefer it with a different middle name than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

[name_f]Grace[/name_f]

[name_f]Mary[/name_f]

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]

For [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as middle name :purple_heart::hibiscus:

Got it! I do love the idea of [name_f]Therese[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], nicknamed Tess—Maggie, [name_u]Joey[/name_u], and [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe [name_u]Camille[/name_u], nicknamed [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] your kids’ names!

Could go with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] as the full name. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] goes really well with your other kids.
