Opinions on Aundrea?

What are you opinions on the name [name]Aundrea[/name] (awn-DRAY-uh). [name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Andrea[/name], still pronounced awn-DRAY-uh? [name]How[/name] would you spell this name? Middle name suggestions? [name]How[/name] popular do you think this name is. “[name]Andrea[/name]” is in the 80’s this year, but I am assuming most people named [name]Andrea[/name] pronounce it [name]ANN[/name]-dree-uh… So how popular do you think awn-DRAY-uh is?

I like [name]Andrea[/name]! I think it honestly depends on where you go–I think I’ve heard more people say AHN-dray-ah over [name]ANN[/name]-dree-ah, but all it takes is a quick pronunciation. I think [name]Andrea[/name] looks so much sweeter and classier than [name]Aundrea[/name], personally. I knew a little [name]Andrea[/name] (your pronunciation) when I was first entering high school about 8 years ago… I don’t hear it altogether that often. I work in a local restaurant here, and a regular customer is [name]Andrea[/name], said [name]ANN[/name]-dree-ah, though.

I’m not sure about MN ideas… maybe something like [name]Andrea[/name] [name]Sophie[/name] or [name]Andrea[/name] [name]Claire[/name]? Maybe [name]Andrea[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]?

Good luck!

I know at least 4 women named [name]Andrea[/name] that I can think of - and one pronounces it “awn-DRAY-uh” while another is “ann-DRAY-uh”. I think most people are relatively familiar with the fact that there are multiple pronunciations for the name - particularly in areas with a lot of Latinos, who say “awn-DRAY-uh” by default. It just takes one simple correction and most people will remember.

I’m not a fan of the [name]Aundrea[/name] spelling, personally - it makes the pronunciation somewhat clearer, yeah, but it could also be confusing due to its similarity to [name]Audrey[/name] and other “Au” names.

[name]Andrea[/name] (awn-dray-uh) is a great name. Like pp’s said, it’s a name with multiple accepted pronunciations - it’s just a matter of letting people know which one you use. If you’re very concerned, consider adding a diacritic acute (the little apostrophe-like accent mark) above the “e” to clue people into the pronunciation if you’d rather not correct them all the time.

Definitely dislike [name]Aundrea[/name] immensely. Much prefer [name]Andrea[/name]. The other way makes it look like you’re either illiterate or trying way too hard to be unique.

[name]Andrea[/name] is lovely - [name]Aundrea[/name] is not.

I’ve gotta side with Judyariel on this one. I automatically pronounce [name]Andrea[/name] as on-DRAY-a, like [name]Andrea[/name] Bocelli. I’ve known more on-DRAY-as (4) than [name]ANN[/name]-dree-as (1,) but I also live in a heavily Spanish and Italian area, which may influence that. When I saw [name]Aundrea[/name] I thought you were going for AWN-dree-a rather than awn-DRAY-a. It’s a difficult name pronunciation-wise no matter how you spell it, so I’d just make the spelling easy and use the classic version or find a different name.

I would spell it [name]Andrea[/name]. I don’t like the name at all. I find it boring and dated and I have bad associations with the name. But if you want to use it go with the easiest spelling [name]Andrea[/name]

It’s not my favorite name, but there was a character named [name]Andrea[/name], pronounced on-DRAY-a, on the [name]Christina[/name] Applegate show [name]Samantha[/name] Who and she was constantly correcting people. Of course, that’s fictional but I think [name]ANN[/name]-dree-a is the more common pronunciation.

I like the name [name]Andrea[/name]. I pronounce it [name]Ann[/name]-dree-uh, but I’m not surprised when someone pronounces it on-dray-uh. I don’t like the [name]Aundrea[/name] spelling. [name]Andrea[/name] looks much better. Another thing - when I see [name]Aundrea[/name] I don’t say on-dray-uh, I say awn-dray-uh. To me, au or aw is a different sound than a- Same with [name]Audrey[/name]. I don’t say ODD-ree. I say AW-dree.
