Opinions on Cruz

My husband surprisingly likes [name]Cruz[/name], and although I think it’s such a cool name, I’m having a hard time picturing it on an adult. I know it’s popular on here, but not sure how “our world” would accept it.
Also, I pn it more like “cruise” but is the correct pn “croose?”

I see two potential problems with this name, unfortunately:

  1. The noun is feminine in Spanish. It seems like a really odd choice for a boy, though I’ve seen it done.
  2. The “cross” meaning is obvious and profound. It’s an overwhelming feature of the name – it’s my first strong association and I don’t even speak Spanish!
All that said, the sound is lovely. I don’t hear “cruise,” as in either [name]Tom[/name] or the verb. Perhaps it’s more usable as a middle name?

I don’t like this very much. I don’t really like any names that are like this, [name]Cruz[/name], [name]Tripp[/name], [name]Jett[/name], [name]Axel[/name]…etc

I think it’s fine as a middle name and I think it has a fine sound though.

In Spanish-speaking countries, the name is usually given in the combination [name]Juan[/name] [name]Cruz[/name]. One thinks of the Spanish saint San [name]Juan[/name] de la [name]Cruz[/name] (St. [name]John[/name] of the [name]Cross[/name]). [name]Juan[/name] [name]Cruz[/name] is a guilty pleasure of mine but we would never use it as my husband and I are not religious. [name]Cruz[/name] as a given first name seems to be a new custom in English-speaking countries, a la [name]Beckham[/name], but perhaps it is also now being done somewhere in the Spanish-speaking world where I am not familiar. The name [name]Bautista[/name] is now being used as a first name in [name]Argentina[/name] instead of the traditional combination [name]Juan[/name] [name]Bautista[/name] ([name]John[/name] the Baptist).

It’s seeming rather trendy to me, unless as others have mentions, you are actually Spanish and it’s used as a namesake (still a pretty heavy load to carry imo). I do say it like ‘cruise’, although I don’t think of that word. I mostly would consider it a celebrity baby name though in the US. It doesn’t do much for me. I do think it wouldn’t really seem ‘mature’ to me. I can’t see a lawyer or doctor with this name.

I think it’s usable. To me, it’s another last-name-first option.

Not a fan at all.
