Opinions on Edmund/Edmond

What do we think of Edmund? Too old fashioned or ready for a revival? I found an Edmund Allen in my family tree and I was taken with it, but I’m not too keen on the nickname Ed. Eddie is alright but I’m not a huge fan. Also: Edmund vs Edmond. Which spelling do you prefer?

Edmund is one of my favourite names! Edmond is also nice, but I do prefer Edmund. I think it’s an elegant, timeless classic and so handsome! More than ready for a revival in my opinion. It can definitely work on a little boy, especially with the nicknames. Though, if you dislike both Ed & Eddie/Eddy, that might be an issue. Ted and Teddy are alternative nicknames that I think are lovely, but realistically you may be unable to completely avoid Ed & Eddy unless you call Edmund another nickname (like Ted or Teddy) full-time.

I love [name_m]Edmond[/name_m]! It looks very polished and masculine.

I love Edmund, but i also don’t mind nn Eddie. I think it’s vintage and cute while also being handsome. Gives me narnia vibes

Ugh love this name. Such a guilty pleasure. Very Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] vibes. I vote for the [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] spelling. The other way makes me think you’re trying to mesh [name_m]Ed[/name_m] and [name_u]Almond[/name_u] together.

I admit I’m not a big fan of [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] (though I prefer that spelling). It’s a bit too heavy for my personal tastes, but obejectively, it’s a solid name, in line with ‘old man’ names like [name_u]Stanley[/name_u], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_u]Reggie[/name_u] that are in style, and it has literary connections. I did meet an [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m]?

I like [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] very much, [name_m]Edmond[/name_m] not so much. It’s this very deep, pine green. Vaguely villainous, but in a fun way. Due for revival. If I had to use a nickname, I’d go with [name_m]Ned[/name_m], but I prefer it on its own.

Such a handsome name! I actually prefer Edmond, but it would probably be misspelled often.

I love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]! (This spelling) and I also adore the nn [name_u]Eddie[/name_u], I think it’s vintage but so cute. I’m surprised [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] isn’t more popular, I honestly think its revival is way overdue.

By far my favorite of the [name_m]Ed[/name_m] names! I like it with nickname [name_m]Ned[/name_m].

I prefer the spelling [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], and it’s a little too old-fashioned for my taste but then again would fit in well with some of the other vintage names experiencing a revival. But if you’re not keen on Ed/Eddie then it may not be for you unless you can find an alternative you like.

I think [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is great (and prefer that spelling of the two options). I think if you want him to be called [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], rather than Ed/Eddie and you express that wish to people, he will be, at least until he’s old enough to choose to go by [name_m]Ed[/name_m] or [name_u]Eddie[/name_u]. But I also agree with the suggestions above of [name_m]Ted[/name_m] and [name_m]Ned[/name_m], which I think are both lovely vintage nicknames and would be very sweet on an [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]

I love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]! He’s one of my favorites, but [name_m]Edmond[/name_m] is very lovely, too! In my UC, he has the nickname [name_m]Mont[/name_m], because I’m also not much for [name_m]Ed[/name_m] or [name_u]Eddie[/name_u]. I definitely think he’s ready for a revival, he’s soft and cozy, feels like home to me

I like [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] quite a bit!! I prefer [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] over [name_m]Edmond[/name_m], I think it looks softer that way. I also love [name_u]Eddie[/name_u]! Such a sweet nickname.

I agree with others’ suggestions of [name_m]Ted[/name_m] and [name_m]Ned[/name_m] as other possible nicknames. They both give me the same soft, comfortable vibes that [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] does (although I think [name_u]Eddie[/name_u] is my favorite). I think with this particular named Ed/Eddie would be kind of hard to avoid, but definitely not impossible if you’re committed to correcting people :))

[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is my FAVORITE boys name. So handsome. I like Eddie/Eddy, they are more familiar from [name_u]Edward[/name_u] so he can fall back on being [name_m]Eddy[/name_m] if he finds [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] too rare.

I am loyal to [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], the version with all the literary references (Mansfield [name_u]Park[/name_u], [name_f]Narnia[/name_f], the historical king) but I do like [name_m]Edmond[/name_m] too, and it lends itself better to the adorable nickname [name_u]Monty[/name_u].
