Opinions on Georgina

[name]Hi[/name] Everyone!

[name]Georgina[/name] is a name that’s been growing on me. I love [name]Georgiana[/name], but there’s too many different pronounciations: george-ay-nah, george-ee-ar-nah, george-ee-ann-ah and I only like george-ee-ar-nah. I don’t however like [name]Georgia[/name], mainly because all the girls I know called [name]Georgia[/name] are horrible.
Therefore for me [name]Georgina[/name] is a compromise that’s really been growing on me and that I think is very pretty. I love the nickname [name]Gigi[/name].
What do you think?
Thanks,
[name]Ellie[/name] xx

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Georgina[/name]. I think it’s so fun and flirty, but still has a sense of formality to it, all while being uncommon. I prefer the nickname [name]Gina[/name] though, but [name]Georgina[/name] in full is absolutely wonderful.

I’m trying to put this delicately, but I went to school with a [name]Georgette[/name], and a [name]Georgiana[/name]. These names, plus, [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Georgina[/name] are lower socio-economic names.

I have to disagree that [name]Georgina[/name] is associated with a lower socio-economic status. [name]Georgina[/name] feels lush to me, like velvet or burgundy. I really like [name]Georgina[/name] and prefer it to the other [name]Georg[/name]-names (ie [name]Georgia[/name] or [name]Georgiana[/name]). I love the nickname [name]GiGi[/name] for a little girl and [name]Gia[/name] or [name]Gina[/name] or even GP [name]Georgie[/name] as she gets older. What sort of mns are you considering?

I also love [name]Georgina[/name]. I don’t associate [name]Georgina[/name] with lower status, I actually think this might be name for [name]Will[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] royal baby.

I think [name]Georgina[/name] is a lovely name, I love it’s vintage, old fashioned beauty. My grandmothers name is [name]Edna[/name] [name]Georgina[/name] and my cousin is [name]Anna[/name] [name]Georgina[/name]. Personally, I like the nn [name]Georgie[/name].

Similar names are:
[name]Regina[/name]
[name]Giorgina[/name]
[name]Angelina[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name]

[name]Georgeanna[/name]
[name]George[/name]
[name]Georgi[/name]
Georginalee

My preference would be with [name]Georgia[/name]. [name]Georgina[/name] is a little more of a mouthful to say and I guess I’m more of a fan of shorter sounding names. Plus I have a very good friend called [name]Georgia[/name]. Her nn is [name]Gigi[/name] Girl. I totally disagree with the concept from another comment that these names are associated with lower-socioeconomic class. They are classic, lovely names. And to be honest, even they were, that wouldn’t bother me if I liked the name.

I much prefer [name]Georgina[/name] to [name]Georgiana[/name], because it has one simple but nice pronunciation to it but still a traditional history of use. I know three Georginas, two go by [name]Gina[/name] and one by [name]Georgie[/name], and I don’t associate it with a lower socioeconomic class at all.

This is definitely false, and based on one person’s experience.

My favorite is [name]Georgiana[/name]. I’m confused by the multiple pronunciations you listed. [name]Ive[/name] never heard [name]George[/name]-ee-AY-nah or [name]George[/name]-ee-AR-nah? Not sure where the R comes from? I say [name]George[/name]-ee-[name]AH[/name]-nah, and am sure some would say [name]George[/name]–ee–[name]ANN[/name]-ah.

I grew up with a [name]Georgianna[/name], and she definitely did NOT belong to a “lower socio-economic class.” (What a mouthful!) She was from a prominent Greek family, went to an exclusive private school and graduated from [name]Yale[/name] with honors. And as if that weren’t enough: she’s gorgeous. Her nickname growing up was [name]Georgie[/name], and it was a pretty perfect name - cute on a kid, cool on an adult.

I wasn’t sure if I liked it until the previous poster suggested the nickname “[name]Georgie[/name].” That is so cute. Reminds me of “[name]Frannie[/name]” for [name]Francesca[/name]. I love tom-boyish nicknames.

I’m American, so I have zero associations with this name other than [name]Georgina[/name] Chapman, [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Darcy[/name], and the Duchess of Devonshire … so the name screams “well-off” to me personally but I could be totally off the mark.

I think both are great names. I think [name]Georgina[/name] is a bit more current and less frilly than [name]Georgiana[/name] but I really do like both. I agree with a couple of pp’s that [name]Georgie[/name] would be an absolutely adorable, spunky nickname. [name]Gigi[/name]'s okay, but [name]Georgie[/name]'s irresistible.
