Opinions on Honor

[name]Hi[/name],
I love the name [name]Honor[/name], I’m British and in [name]England[/name] the word is spelt honour, but all the English girls called this that I know, spell it [name]Honor[/name]. I love this spelling and they way that it looks and sounds (imagine saying it in an English accent)

What do you all think?
Thank you,
[name]Ellie[/name] xx

I think [name]Honor[/name] sounds nice. The problem is, the name is just too similar to [name]Honour[/name], which is quite a ‘heavy’ name to have. I am afraid it is a bit old-school and is only suitable for girls who are intelligent and likes to think - it doesn’t work on everyone.

I think it would be a nice middle name though.

It goes well with any first name that doesn’t end with a A sound.

I always feel an ‘[name]Honor[/name]’ is a missed ‘[name]Honoria[/name]’ opportunity, but then I am a big fan of P G Wodehouse

[name]Honor[/name] is lovely, intelligent, sophisticated.

I had a great great (x lots…) Granny called [name]Honora[/name]. I think I prefer that to [name]Honor[/name] and she could be called [name]Nora[/name] if she didn’t like her full name.

Naming a girl [name]Honor[/name] is like naming a boy [name]Legend[/name]. There’s a lot to live up to.

I love [name]Honor[/name] <3

It’s not really my style. I prefer other virtues names like [name]Amity[/name], [name]Constance[/name] or [name]Temperance[/name].

I love it, as a pp mentioned it’s classy and sophisticated. I don’t think it is something she will feel she has to “live up to”, but it is a beautiful virtue and aspiration to bestow upon her. It’s like saying a girl named [name]Blythe[/name] would feel pressured to feel happy all of the time.

I don’t really get it, but then again I’m American and my pronunciation of [name]Honor[/name] is just blah. [name]Honoria[/name] is slightly better and I like [name]Honora[/name] the best. Idk I guess I’m just confused on pronunciation. I naturally pronounce them as “AW-ner,” “aw-[name]NOR[/name]-ia” and “aw-[name]NORA[/name]” but maybe I’m totally flubbing that and they would sound better to me pronounced correctly.

Anyhoo, rambling cut short, I’m not a huge fan of virtue names, especially those like [name]Honor[/name], [name]Faith[/name], and [name]Truth[/name] that are commonly used words. The only ones I really like are [name]Verity[/name] and [name]Amity[/name] but that’s because hardly anybody goes around saying [name]Verity[/name] or [name]Amity[/name].

I really dislike this name! Well the sound and word are okay, but it looks so wrong to me! American spellings stick out a like sore thumb in my eyes. Sorry to our American cousins on these forums but I’m a stickler for spelling and grammar and every time I see [name]Honor[/name] or [name]Gray[/name] or [name]Harbor[/name] I get the same feeling as when I see youre or definately or seperate. Why change the spelling of [name]Honour[/name]? If I met a girl who pronounced her name ‘on-er’, I would write it down as [name]Honour[/name].

But otherwise, [name]Honour[/name] is lovely both audibly and visibly

My cousin in co. [name]Galway[/name] is called [name]Honour[/name], I always loved it. I think I prefer the -our spelling.

I feel the same, but I’ve never seen the name spelt with a ‘u’. :frowning: My ancestor didn’t have one. She was Irish.

[name]EDIT[/name]:: Oh lol, just read the above post! I guess I have seen it spelt with a ‘u’.
