Opinions on Isla

I love the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. In a lot of ways it’s the perfect name for me but, I’m afraid that the spelling will cause people to mispronounce it. I know there are different variations of spelling it ([name_f]Eila[/name_f], Eylah). What are your opinions on the alternative spellings for the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or do you prefer the original spelling and think mispronunciations are less likely to happen with [name_f]Isla[/name_f]?

Honestly I think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is the least likely to have issues. More and more people are familiar with the name. I’d worry more about if I was pronouncing something like [name_f]Eila[/name_f] or [name_f]Ayla[/name_f], etc. the way it was intended than [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

Also just in a written sense, I like the way [name_f]Isla[/name_f] looks compared to other options.

If you looked at the name “[name_f]Eyla[/name_f]”, would you know how to pronounce it right off the bat?

I would stick with the [name_f]Isla[/name_f] spelling. I agree with PP that it looks better than the other potential spellings, plus the name isn’t totally unheard of these days. Besides, people are familiar enough with the word “island”…

[name_f]Eyla[/name_f]…honestly, I’d be more likely to mispronounce this one. I’d say it something like “ay-la”, not “eye-la”.

If you like the name, stick to its correct spelling  I honestly wouldn’t have pronounced it correctly several years ago, but I know now!

I believe that many people will say [name_f]Isla[/name_f] correctly because they know how to say Island. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is my favorite spelling. My second is [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] but many people in my area say it like they would in [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] due to a well known missing little girl with that name pronunciation.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is one of my favourites but we’ve crossed it off the list because it’s so darn popular in our area. Definitely stick with the [name_f]Isla[/name_f] spelling, anything else will get more confusing.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is one of the most beautiful names out there. It would be high on my list but I worry too much about popularity and it is just becoming too popular for me. However, the rising popularity helps if you are worried about pronunciation as more people will become exposed to the name.

I would pronounce the beginning of Eylah/[name_f]Ayla[/name_f] like the letter ‘A’, not “eye.” Not even sure how I would pronounce [name_f]Eila[/name_f] if I saw it somewhere. Maybe “EYE-la” but also maybe “EE-la.”

I would stick with the original [name_f]Isla[/name_f] spelling. Its looks and sounds gorgeous. Most people will be introduced to her verbally anyway. For people that read her name first and can’t say it right, it’s easy enough to correct them and they shouldn’t continue to have issues after that.

Very pretty name. I agree with previous posters that the [name_f]Isla[/name_f] spelling is actually least likely to have problems with pronunciation. I never know how to pronounce [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] when I see it.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is beautiful imo. Like others said, I’d mispronounce the variations but am familiar with the [name_f]Isla[/name_f] spelling!

I’d stick with the [name_f]Isla[/name_f] spelling. Island, isle are both spelt that way so pretyy intuitive imo… and becoming very familiar/popular so people should know how to pronounce!

I would stick with [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. I think seeing as it’s getting more and more popular, pronunciation issues will be less likely to happen.
