My name is [name_f]Judith[/name_f], and I must admit I’m not crazy about it. I don’t think it’s pretty at all. Also, my two-syllable last name begins with a T and saying my first and last name together just doesn’t sound good. Nobody calls me [name_f]Judith[/name_f] - it’s always [name_f]Judy[/name_f]. I’m not crazy about [name_f]Judy[/name_f], either. I’ve never heard the nickname Ditta.
I am kinda excited to see this thread because I have a very soft spot in my heart for the name [name_f]Judith[/name_f]. It’s my wonderful grandmother’s name. I would love to see it make a comeback! This would be on my list of options for a baby girl but my husband isn’t fond of it. One nickname that I would use would be Juju!
I really love [name_f]Judith[/name_f]. It has a very lyrical sound to it. I also think it’s a good alternative to [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], or [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. If I were having multiple children, it would be on my list. I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] over [name_f]Judy[/name_f] removes some of that dated feel it can have when it comes to nn’s for this one. Ditta is cute, Ditto might be another cute one. There is also Juju, [name_f]Thia[/name_f], [name_f]Dee[/name_f], [name_u]Jules[/name_u], Jiji, [name_u]Jay[/name_u], [name_m]Judd[/name_m]. Other nicknames could be used if you incorporate the middle name(s).
For those wondering about Ditta… my family is Italian so I have always heard it as a nickname for [name_f]Giuditta[/name_f], and I guess I just transcribed it to the English [name_f]Judith[/name_f] as well. I think it works though.
