I’m kind of crushing on [name_f]Junia[/name_f]. I just came across it in the blog this week, and a few Berries have mentioned it to me.
WDYT? [name_m]Will[/name_m] people just think it’s [name_f]Julia[/name_f] misspelled? Other ideas?

Honestly, I don’t know how it’s prn. [name_u]June[/name_u] ee uh? [name_u]June[/name_u] yah? Not really a fan.
I think [name_f]Junia[/name_f] is spunky and cute and could work!
I like it. I’m a big fan of both [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Juna[/name_f], so [name_f]Junia[/name_f] works for me, too. Maybe some people will consider it a misspelling, but not everybody…and even if they do, so what? I don’t think it’s so crazy that people will forever be confused about the name ;).
I like it in theory and I think it is very pretty, but it sounds too close to [name_m]Junior[/name_m] in my accent, which I loathe. However, if you have a rhotic accent it should be fine. You might get a few people who think it is [name_f]Julia[/name_f] at first, but I don’t think that is too much of a problem.
I know a [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and it’s a great name for a spunky girl! I hadn’t heard of it before I knew this little girl and I’ll be honest, I did get it wrong and pronounced it [name_u]June[/name_u]-ya (like the clipped, [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f]-y way of saying [name_f]Julia[/name_f]) but I was corrected and I learned how to say a cool new name. Now I adore it!
I’m saying it like [name_u]JUNE[/name_u]-ee-ah. Of course it would be better if I were Male and from Spain like this guy on Forvo, but here it is: Junià pronunciation: How to pronounce Junià in Catalan
I hadn’t thought of it sounding like [name_m]Junior[/name_m], though if you say it june-ya I do see the similarity, even though we have borderline excessive R’s in my region.
Thanks for the comments and discussion (for and against!).
I think [name_f]Djuna[/name_f] is much nicer. Like previous posters mentioned, [name_f]Junia[/name_f] is sort of clunky to pronounce. [name_u]June[/name_u]-yuh? Joon-ee-uh?
My own daughter is [name_f]Juno[/name_f], so obviously that’s my favourite ‘[name_m]Jun[/name_m]’ name.
I love the name [name_f]Junia[/name_f], and I’ve considered it for a future daughter. My grandma had a really good friend named [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and she was such a wonderful woman. She always stood up for was she believed in and she was so so intelligent. She was skiing in Switzerland in her eighties! She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and went downhill pretty quickly after that, but she just captures everything I’d love for a future daughter to aspire to be. Anyways, no I don’t think people will think it’s [name_f]Julia[/name_f] mispelled… It’s a name with some history, not some willynilly name made up out of thin air.
@krankenschwester - I do like [name_f]Juno[/name_f] too, but I can’t get anything more than a grunt out of my husband over that one. I’ve never thought about [name_f]Djuna[/name_f]. I’ll give it some thought, though I do like the history of [name_f]Junia[/name_f].
@lighsea - Oh, sounds like such a nice friend. I think it’s more that I’m afraid that people will mis-hear it as [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and it will be a pain. My Zephan has so much trouble because people always think his name is [name_m]Stephan[/name_m]. Totally annoying. I do like the history of [name_f]Junia[/name_f], though it does sound very modern. So old, it’s new!
Anyone else want to weigh in?
I love [name_f]Junia[/name_f]! It’s at the top of my list for a girl. It’s spunky and fresher than [name_u]June[/name_u], but not as popular as [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] or trendy as [name_f]Juno[/name_f]. Comes with great nicknames, [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Junie[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], to fit any personality.
[name_f]Junia[/name_f] is a lovely name. A few people may mistake it as [name_f]Julia[/name_f] spelt incorrectly but I think most (educated) people will spell and pronounce [name_f]Junia[/name_f] correctly.
At first I was a big fan; more unusual than [name_f]Julia[/name_f], same awesome style but then when I said it, all I could hear was [name_m]Junior[/name_m]. It is very pretty though.
I love it! It’s my favorite of the [name_m]Jun[/name_m]- names. [name_u]June[/name_u] is a bit short, [name_f]Juno[/name_f] a bit trendy, and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] a bit frilly. [name_f]Junia[/name_f] has the perfect balance of spunk, sweetness, usability, and uncommonness. I think it’s fresh without being trendy and it sounds vintage without being dusty. I can’t say enough good things about it! I’m pronouncing it like june-ee-uh for what it’s worth.
I like it. It is easy to spell and pronounce, to me, so that won’t be an issue. My name is almost invariably misheard as something else, and so I can tell you that is a bit annoying, but I wouldn’t use that as a reason not to use it. I’m grateful my mother gave me the name she did and not the one people think it is!
I like it, though I prefer [name_u]June[/name_u].
Junio is “[name_u]June[/name_u]” in Spanish, and julio is “[name_u]July[/name_u],” so [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f] remind me of summer- and [name_m]Rome[/name_m].
Thanks everyone for more comments! I think you’re right @tekla, it’s a bit summery for an [name_f]October[/name_f] babe. Unfortunately, my husband didn’t even put this one through to the “It’s Not Horrible” list, so goodbye to [name_f]Junia[/name_f]. I was kind of hopeful about that one. Off to do more treasure-hunting! Thanks for the input.
