[name_m]Just[/name_m] joined nameberry for the sake of seeing how many times I could find the name [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] (rhyming with mouse) to make my decision easier
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are expecting our boy in [name_u]September[/name_u] and we both adore the name [name_m]Klaus[/name_m].
I’ve known of this name since reading Series of Unfortunate Events when I was younger and loved it then. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband loves the music of the composer [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] Badelt, our favorite board game is created by [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] Tueber, we love [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] Hargreeves in Umbrella Academy…and so on. All of this to say we have connections to the name and liked its uniqueness. The downfall is we told only some family members and they really didn’t like it 🥲
I understand that it is our choice, but I can’t help but wonder if he will struggle with a name so close to [name_f]Santa[/name_f] [name_m]Claus[/name_m] and wanted to ask others opinions that are not family. I don’t think of [name_f]Santa[/name_f] when I think of [name_m]Klaus[/name_m]!
I think [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] is a super handsome name that stands out in the US at least (not sure where you are). If you love it, use it. I regret discussing my daughters’ names with family before they were born. It kind of made the naming process less fun, for me at least. If you and your husband are in agreement on it, use it! Where I live [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] is rather common, but not so much on children. I like it though, it’s classic and never gets boring.

I like it! It’s simple, strong and classic but also a real standout choice in an English-speaking environment. I can foresee a few [name_f]Santa[/name_f] [name_m]Claus[/name_m] comments but honestly, I can think of many worse things to be teased about! You have so many fun connections to it as well, I say go for it.
Cute! And no kid is going to be upset that they may have a connection with [name_f]Santa[/name_f]! I think my son would give up chocolate to think he might be linked to Santa🤣
I love the name [name_m]Klaus[/name_m], I am an a fan a Series of unfortunate events and umbrella academy but for middle name you might want to chose a middle name that’s more modern
Yay! I also love Klaus because of Klaus Baudelaire. It’s quirky and nerdy, but also familiar. I do think he would get some comments about Santa Claus but kids love Santa so I don’t see a problem here.
I don’t think of Santa when I think [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] either- I think Series of Unfortunate Events lol. It doesn’t sound like you’re going to be pronouncing them in a similar way anyway? And the K makes it distinctive enough from [name_m]Claus[/name_m], I think.
I’m afraid I think of it as [name_f]Santa[/name_f] and the name is such an easy one to bully. I’m sorry but I really don’t like it but if you love then go for it!
To me [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] sounds very German/Scandinavian. I think it’s a nice name. I can imagine the [name_f]Santa[/name_f] [name_m]Claus[/name_m] thing coming up, but I don’t think it’s something strongly teasable, plus [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] has a different pronunciation.
I love the name! [name_f]My[/name_f] childhood was A Series of Unfortunate Events. After my first child, I always kept my children’s names secret before their birth because my mom openly hates every name that isn’t [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. But in the end she still loves her grandchildren, and thinks their names fit their personality. I say if you and your husband love it go for it.
I think [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] is an incredible name (I also love [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] from the Vampire Diaries!) and since it has such special meaning to you, use it!
Your family members will never (I hope!) tell your child they do not like their name regardless of what they are named, and they will likely never tell you they don’t like your child’s name after they are born (I hope!). I would keep it quiet until the baby is born and if you decide on [name_m]Klaus[/name_m], they will already be so in love with him it won’t matter.
I also do not think of [name_f]Santa[/name_f] [name_m]Claus[/name_m] when I see this name whatsoever!
