Opinions on Marina

[name]Hi[/name], I really like [name]Marina[/name], but somehow it has not made it onto my list. I would use it as a middle name, maybe [name]Willa[/name] [name]Marina[/name]? [name]Marina[/name] would be to honour my dad because he loves the sea. Hey, it’s a sort of connection!
My mum teaches a little girl called [name]Marina[/name], who has sisters called [name]Isobel[/name], [name]Julia[/name] and [name]Elodie[/name], which I think is very cute.
What do you think of [name]Marina[/name]?
Thank you,
[name]Ellie[/name] xx

I love [name]Marina[/name]! There’s a [name]Shakespeare[/name] connection (although she’s not the most interesting character by any means), plus the fantastic [name]Marina[/name] and the Diamonds. And it’s just such a pretty name.

I love [name]Marina[/name], I think it’s adorable and the sea reference is a big plus. [name]Willa[/name] [name]Marina[/name] is a little too rhymie for me since both names end with an ‘a’.

Its a lovely name! Its a very cool way to honor your dad

Great, underused name and more exotic that [name]Mary[/name]/[name]Maria[/name]. I don’t think two names ending in “A” flow well though (wilLA/mariNA), so perhaps something similar would work like [name]Maren[/name] or [name]Mirren[/name] (which have sea meanings) or the scottish Murron. If you prefer [name]Marina[/name] (and it IS gorgeous) I would pair it with [name]Ashlyn[/name] from your list, e.g. [name]Ashlyn[/name] [name]Marina[/name].x

I love the name [name]Marina[/name]! [name]One[/name] of my childhood best friends is named [name]Marina[/name], so I have a soft spot for it. [name]Maren[/name] is another of my favorites. [name]Willa[/name] [name]Maren[/name] works a bit better as a combo if you’re committed to first name [name]Willa[/name], since [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Marina[/name] both end in A. (Repeated ending sounds don’t always bother me, but it does sound a little redundant in this instance. Not terrible, though, if you really prefer [name]Marina[/name] to an alternative.)

My husband and I are using [name]Marina[/name] as a middle name for our daughter (due in [name]December[/name]). She will be [name]Anna[/name] [name]Marina[/name], “grace like the sea.” I [name]LOVE[/name] the name. I think it’s unique and lovely, and we love the sea connection as well.

[name]Marina[/name] is a great way to honor your dad. I don’t care for it with [name]Willa[/name], it deserves to be up front and there’s something I don’t like about the combo. I agree with whoever it was that said they like [name]Ashlyn[/name] [name]Marina[/name].

It’s a great name and great connection. I’m the mom of a 4 year-old, so I do think of the Fresh [name]Beat[/name] Band, but that’s definitely not a a reason NOT to use it.

I agree. [name]Marina[/name] is beautiful, more beautiful than [name]Maren[/name], [name]Mirren[/name] or Murron.

I wouldn’t usually go for this (I grew up in a lake town, so I have the whole boat dock association thing in my head…) but, since it’s to honor your dad, I think it’s a good idea!

[name]Marina[/name] is pretty, exotic and surprisingly rare. It has a Shakespearean connection as well as a royal one. [name]Princess[/name] [name]Marina[/name] of Greece married the present [name]Queen[/name]'s late uncle [name]Prince[/name] [name]George[/name] in 1934 and became the Duchess of [name]Kent[/name]. She was an elegant lady on the best dressed lists for many years.

I actually like the flow of [name]Willa[/name] [name]Marina[/name] - I think it’s fine they both end in A.

I think [name]Marina[/name] is very pretty - and for girls I nearly always go for names ending in A.
It would go nicely with some of your list: [name]Fallon[/name] [name]Marina[/name], [name]Amber[/name] [name]Marina[/name] etc, maybe better than with [name]Willa[/name].

  • Side note: I just wanted to mention I don’t get what all the fuss is about over [name]Willa[/name]. I mean its pretty but I really don’t get why it’s #35 in the top 100 on this site. Sorry, that’s probably not helpful to you (however I [name]DO[/name] like most of your other choices!)

I like some of the alts listed but another one of my favorites is [name]Marnie[/name] ([name]Mar[/name]-Nee) - it’s so unexpected!

If your focus is solely on the meaning,
You could also go with any variation of [name]Margarite[/name] or [name]Marjorie[/name] meaning [name]Pearl[/name], or any variation of [name]Maris[/name] or [name]Marissa[/name] meaning Of the Sea. OR [name]Meriel[/name], [name]Meryl[/name], or any version of [name]Marilyn[/name] which means [name]Bright[/name] Sea.

I love [name]Marina[/name] and its references, and I agree with many other users above that it is the best of its variations. I’m not quite sure it fits with [name]Willa[/name] in the first-names spot, I tend to dislike two consecutive names that end in A. I also think that [name]Marina[/name] sounds stronger in a first name slot, as opposed to the much milder [name]Willa[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Marina[/name] [name]Willow[/name] (or, I suppose, [name]Willow[/name] [name]Marina[/name])? Off your signature, I’m a fan of [name]Marina[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] (or, [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Marina[/name]) as well.

I like it. [name]Lovely[/name] and underused. I’m not a fan of [name]Willa[/name] but I think [name]Willa[/name] [name]Marina[/name] is just fine.

When I was younger I had a neighbour named [name]Marina[/name]. She wasn’t my age, she was closer to my mother’s age. I played with her kids.
It is a beautiful name and it ages well.

I want to like [name]Marina[/name], but I don’t. It makes me think of marinas. That’s it. And it also, via some convoluted logic, increasingly makes me think of [name]Marine[/name] [name]Le[/name] [name]Pen[/name]. And it’s grey-green sea-weedy and flimsy at the same time. I don’t know, something makes me hate it a bit, and want to like it all the same.

I do like it as a middle name, though!

I love it. The sound, the sea connection, everything about it…

I love [name]Marina[/name]! It’s a beautiful name. [name]Willa[/name] [name]Marina[/name] is fine, though I agree with bibliophile that [name]Willow[/name] [name]Marina[/name] sounds better.
